All 5 crew members of the Anacortes-based fishing vessel Patty J were rescued after their boat took on water in Southeast Alaska, according to a release from the U. S. Coast Guard.

The plan to improve Washington’s ferry fleet took another step forward this past week with the advertisement of a contract to build at least two new 64-car ferries.

The proposed budget for the coming school year has less of just about everything than the current year, including fewer students, fewer teachers and less money to spend.

The School Board has decided not to appoint an interim board member to replace Chris Anderson, who resigned earlier this summer. The Board decided Thursday night they could function with the current 4 members until a new member is elected in November.

The 48th annual Anacortes Arts Festival, held Friday through Sunday, is all about art and soul. Art fills the streets and Port warehouse while music drifts through the air from 4 venues.
