An overflow crowd turned out Saturday for a Town Hall meeting by Representative Rick Larsen to discuss health care legislation now being worked on in Congress.

The plan to improve Washington’s ferry fleet took another step forward this past week with the advertisement of a contract to build at least two new 64-car ferries.

The proposed budget for the coming school year has less of just about everything than the current year, including fewer students, fewer teachers and less money to spend.

The School Board has decided not to appoint an interim board member to replace Chris Anderson, who resigned earlier this summer. The Board decided Thursday night they could function with the current 4 members until a new member is elected in November.

The 48th annual Anacortes Arts Festival, held Friday through Sunday, is all about art and soul. Art fills the streets and Port warehouse while music drifts through the air from 4 venues.

The award-winning Canadian group The Paperboys come to town with a show Friday night at Cap Sante Marina, part of the Port's Friday night series.

Construction has started on a short segment of a planned coastal walking/biking trail from downtown Anacortes to the state ferry landing.

Popular part-time Seattle author JA Jance' newest mystery, Fire and Ice, brings together her two heroes: Seattle investigator J.P. Beaumont and Cochise County Sheriff Joanna Brady. The story, or maybe I should say stories, involve two separate crimes which twist together at the end.
