Plenty of fall foliage on view along the Tommy Thompson Trail today. Not many people walking or biking, too. Nice and peaceful.

Gromus sentenced to 20 years

The teacher convicted of assault in connection with the attack on his wife outside their Campbell Lake home a year ago has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. Superior Court Judge Michael Rickert sentenced Alan Gromus to 248 months in prison.

City sets tourism promo funds

city_seal-100x100.jpgThe city is giving more than three-quarters of the $200,000 available for tourism promotion next year to the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is set to receive $165,000, with the remainder going to 14 other groups and individuals. 

Samish purchase prime Hwy 20 land

The Samish Indian Nation has purchased about 14 acres of prime Highway 20 real estate, just east of Thompson Road in the March Point area. According to the County Assessor, purchase price was nearly $8.6 million.

2008-1026_seabear.jpgFrom the Chamber of Commerce: In 1957, fisherman Tom Savidge  and his wife Marie built a backyard smokehouse and began selling smoked wild salmon to local taverns here in Anacortes. With that Specialty Seafoods was born (later renamed SeaBear after a Native American legend).
