The mudslides up the Skagit River in recent days is causing the river to become extremely dirty, and since that’s the source of Anacortes’ drinking water, the city water treatment plant has taken steps to treat the water. 

Gov. Chris Gregoire has announced she is appointing Marty Loesch as her general counsel and senior advisor. Loesch currently serves as the inter-governmental affairs director and tribal attorney for the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community.

Speaker after speaker Wednesday night criticized a proposal by the Governor to drop the Anacortes to Sidney, BC, ferry run. More than 50 people attended a meeting at city hall designed to gather support to save the international ferry run. 

The assistant football coach at Anacortes High School, Bill Evans, has been selected to become the Varsity Football Coach. The School Board approved the selection Thursday morning.
