The Washington State Ferries will hold a community meeting in Anacortes in about a month to answer questions and gather public comments on issues related to the ferry system. The Anacortes meeting is one of a series set for May.
The state has awarded Anacortes $15,000 to prepare a weed plan for Heart Lake. The lake suffers from milfoil. Part of the plan includes surveying the lake for other non-native invasive plants.
A new summer surcharge will go into effect this Saturday on state ferries. On the Anacortes to Friday Harbor run, the basic walk-on fare for Wed.-Sat. will go from $11.20 to $13.45. Sun.-Tue. fares are slightly lower.
