Both people suffered several puncture wounds to their hands while trying to get the dog into the Animal Control pickup on Wednesday, June 9. Padovan was transported to the emergency room for treatment for a severely injured hand. The dog had been running loose from its home in the 1900 block of Down Jones Way. Two police officers took the dog to the pound where it bit one of the officers in the forearm prior to being placed in a kennel for quarantine. The dog will probably be deemed a dangerous animal.

Friday, June 4
An officer on foot patrol in the woods near the High School came across three males who took off running when they saw the officer. The officer smelled marijuana, told to the subjects to stop, and they complied and walked back towards the officer. One male voluntarily emptied his pockets and was allowed to leave after nothing illegal was found. An 18-year-old Anacortes man pulled a baggy of marijuana from his pocket and handed it to the officer. A 17-year-old Anacortes boy handed the officer a glass container containing flakes of marijuana. They were arrested, charged with possession of marijuana, and then released.
A Georgia resident reported a hit-and-run to his rental car after he discovered it had been damaged while parked at a restaurant in the 200 block of T Avenue. It appeared that the victim’s vehicle had been side-swiped by another car causing scratching and denting to the front quarter panel and bumper. The damage estimate was unknown.
Saturday, June 5
Someone entered an unlocked garage at a home in the 3300 block of Field Avenue and stole a Tomtom brand GPS unit. The victim said that he discovered several other items had been piled by the door, but that the only thing missing was the GPS.
A Garmin brand GPS valued at $260 was stolen from an unlocked car parked in the 2400 block of 33rd Street. The suspect is unknown.
Officers contacted a 43-year-old Anacortes man in the 800 block of 27th Street after a witness reported the man suspiciously looking through mailboxes in the area. It was determined that the man lived in the block and had not taken any mail. The man was arrested though, as he had an outstanding warrant for Negligent Driving. During the search of the man, the officer located a baggy of marijuana and a marijuana smoking pipe in the man’s pants pockets. He was issued a citation for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and released after the jail would not accept him for booking.
Sunday, June 6
A 19-year-old Fidalgo Island man was arrested for investigation of drunk driving after a witness reported him driving away from a party where he had been drinking. An officer saw the car driving on the wrong side of the road on J Avenue before stopping him. The man displayed the effects of drinking alcohol and admitted he had been drinking vodka. Three other teens in the car were also found to have been drinking and they were arrested for underage drinking. The man was processed for DUI but his breath samples were under the legal limit, so he was cited for being a minor in possession and released. Two other teens were also arrested for MIP in the 1400 block of 25th Street after they were contacted by an officer who had transported one of the earlier arrestees home. They had been drinking earlier with the other teens.
A car left parked in the front lot of the police station while the owner was serving a two-day jail commit had its taillight assembly damaged by an unknown vehicle. The unknown offending driver had left a note on the victim’s car, but due to heavy rain the ink on most of the note had washed away erasing the other driver’s name and phone number.
A 33-year-old Camano Island woman was arrested for investigation of theft after she allegedly stole several items from an antique store in the 300 block of Commercial Avenue. An employee had seen the woman removing tags from some items and then walk out of the store without paying. The woman was contacted near her car and admitted to shoplifting. She said that she planned on selling the items to get money for rent and other expenses. The woman was released and formal theft charges are pending.
Monday, June 7
An officer contacted a 20-year-old Anacortes man outside of a store in the 900 block of 11th Street after he had been seen acting suspiciously near the building. The man smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech, and admitted to drinking “four beers.” He was issued a citation for MIP and then asked the officer for a “hug.” Instead of a hug, the man was given a handshake and a courtesy ride home.
An iPod Nano valued at $150 and a Tomtom brand GPS unit valued at $20 were stolen sometime during the previous week from a vehicle parked at a home in the 1700 block of 39th Street. It was unknown if the vehicle was left unlocked.
A resident of the 2300 block of 30th Street reported that several pieces of outgoing mail had been stolen from her mailbox. The stolen mail included several checks she had written to various creditors. The victim notified her bank and put stop payments on the checks.
Someone entered an unlocked car parked in the 1600 block of 36th Street, but nothing appeared to have been stolen or damaged.
A 41-year-old Anacortes woman faces 2nd degree theft charges after she admitted to fraudulently using an ATM card to withdraw cash from the account of an 18-year-old woman she had let stay at her home in the 1600 block of 11th Street. The younger woman had moved out, but her new ATM card had been mailed to the older woman’s home. The older woman tried to justify her actions by saying that the younger woman had previously stole money from her, but she did admit her behavior had been ‘wrong.’
A 40-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for violating a domestic violence no-contact order after he allegedly asked another person to deliver a message to a 33-year-old woman who was the protected party in the order. The order prohibited the man from contacting the woman in any manner, including using a third party. The man was booked into jail on the violation.
Tuesday, June 8
A man found a baggy of marijuana near a mud puddle in the 800 block of 3rd Street and called police. The marijuana was placed into police evidence for destruction.
Officers were dispatched to a home in the 1100 block of 7th Street regarding the parents of a 34-year-old woman reporting their daughter was “out of control.” It was learned that the daughter had been arguing with her father and that she had allegedly kicked and hit him. The daughter denied hitting her father and said that he had hit her. The daughter was determined to be the primary aggressor and she was booked into jail for domestic violence assault.
Officers received a tip that a 19-year-old Anacortes man who had a felony warrant for his arrest was at an apartment in the 1100 block of 29th Street. The warrant stemmed form the man failing to appear for an omnibus hearing. The man was not at the apartment, but was located across the street at a park. The man was arrested on the warrant and booked into jail.
Wednesday, June 9
An employee at an Anacortes medical facility reported receiving approximately 40 phone calls over the past week from an unknown man with an East Indian accent asking her to marry him. The man called the victim by name and begged her not to call the police. The man called from a variety of out of the area phone numbers, but upon police callback the numbers were disconnected or no longer in service. His identity remains unknown.
A 33-year-old Mount Vernon man was sent a court summons for domestic violence malicious mischief after he allegedly kicked the front door of his estranged wife’s house in the 1300 block of 19th Street and cracked the door frame. The wife was not home at the time, but the couple’s daughter was present. The man also took a television from the house and a lawnmower from a shed.
An officer stopped a pickup in the 900 block of D Avenue after he discovered the registered owner and driver had a suspended driver’s license. The man also had an interlock requirement from a previous DUI arrest. The driver was a 53-year-old Anacortes man who smelled strongly of intoxicants and had bloodshot eyes. He was placed under arrest for suspended driving and the officer found empty beer cans in the man’s pockets. The man refused to perform field sobriety tests, but he was also informed he was under arrest for drunk driving based upon the officer’s observations. His pickup also lacked the required interlock device. He was taken to the police station where he provided breath samples that were over three times the legal limit. He was cited for DUI, driving while suspended, and not having the interlock device.
A 33-year-old Anacortes man was arrested out of a motel room in the 2000 block of Commercial Avenue for having a warrant for his arrest for a previous DUI offense. He was booked into jail.
Thursday, June 10
A 60-year-old Burlington man was arrested during a traffic stop in the 1900 block of Commercial Avenue after it was learned that he had a warrant for his arrest for failing to appear in court on a domestic violence malicious mischief charge. He was booked into jail.
A 34-year-old man was arrested for domestic violence assault after he allegedly pushed and grabbed his girlfriend around the neck during the course of an argument at their home in the 4600 block of Devonshire Drive. The couple had been arguing over a text message the man had found on the woman’s phone. The woman admitted that she had scratched the man in an effort to get him off of her. The man was determined to be the primary aggressor and was booked into jail.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested at an apartment in the 800 block of 28th Street after he threw a water bottle at his mother. The bottle struck the woman in the hand and caused pain and swelling. They had been allegedly arguing about the boy’s refusal to give his mother his cell phone. The boy was booked into juvenile detention for domestic violence assault.
Two pear trees that had been planted in the 800 block of 29th Street as part of a community garden project were vandalized by having their trunks broken off. The trees had been originally donated, but had an estimated replacement cost of $40 each. The trees had been planted on the City park land to provide free fruit and shade for area residents.
Officers responded to a home in the 3400 block of M Avenue after it was reported that a 24-year-old man had argued with his father and allegedly “punched” him. The two had been arguing over the father telling the son he needed to stop drinking and make better choices. The son then allegedly shoved the father and then fled the house. The son was contacted in the back yard as he was trying to climb over a fence. He said that he was trying to flee as he knew the police were coming. He was arrested and booked into jail for domestic violence assault.
