Two anxious local runners were the first to cross the newly-restored trestle across Fidalgo Bay when the city re-opened it Friday morning. Cheri Austin and Tawni Wesset, who said they didn't mind the rain, were at the locked gate before city officials arrived to open the trestle.

The Tommy Thompson Parkway trestle across Fidalgo Bay, which was damaged by a fire last October is set to open Friday morning. City Parks Director Gary Robinson says the city will open the trestle at 11am Friday. 

A portion of the Community Garden at 29th Street now is more accessible to seniors and individuals with physical limitation. Thanks to donations of $1,185 and hours of volunteer labor, five raised-bed planting boxes are now available.

With about 20 feet of planking to be put down and some fencing yet to go up, city Parks Director Gary Robinson is hopeful that the newly renovated trestle across Fidalgo Bay could be open this weekend.

The City Council will take public testimony early next month on new rules to allow hens, but not roosters, in backyards. The city Planning Commission gave its okay in April.
