Hannah Smythe gives thumbs up to her classmate after "turning the tassel" on her graduation cap Wednesday night at Anacortes High School's graduation ceremony. A substantial number of graduates are planning on attending a 4-year college.

Free food and beverages, live music and much more are planned when the city hosts a celebration 4-7 pm Thursday afternoon for the completion of repairs to the Tommy Thompson Parkway trestle.

A 71-year-old man and Animal Control Officer Marie Padovan were both bitten repeatedly while trying to contain a Chihuahua mix dog that was running loose in the 2300 block of 29th Street last week.

Nine candidates have filed for the state House seat now held by Dave Quall, who has announced he will not seek re-election in the fall. Four Democrats, four Republicans and one person aligned with the so-called 'Happiness Party" filed by the Friday deadline.

Anacortes School District will join a handful of other school districts across the state in a pilot program of new teacher and principal evaluations. The 2-year pilot program is required under legislation passed earlier this year.
