Tall ships coming to Anacortes

The brig Lady Washington and the topsail ketch Hawaiian Chieftain, have scheduled a visit to Anacortes starting Friday. There will be opportunities to tour the vessels and participate as guests on public sailings, including a new value-priced sail in the evening of Monday,  Aug. 2.  

The vessels are scheduled to stop briefly at Cap Sante Boat Haven, 1019 Q Avenue, Anacortes on July 25 in order to pick up passengers for the ships’ annual Expedition Voyages youth and family camps in the San Juan Islands. Spaces are still available for the camps, which feature detailed exploration of the natural history of the islands. For information, call the Historical Seaport at 800-200-5239.

The ships return to Anacortes on July 30, opening for tours on these dates and times: 7/31, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 8/1, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 8/3, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. A $3 donation per person is appreciated.

At 2 p.m. July 31 and August 1, both ships will take guests on a three-hour Battle Sail, which features a recreation of a typical 18th century naval skirmish with real cannon fire (blanks only). Tickets are $60 adults, $50 students/seniors/active military, $40 children 12 and under. At 10 a.m. August 1, Lady Washington will offer a family-oriented Adventure Sail, which features a chance for kids and adults to sail a real tall ship. 

Adventure Sail tickets are $55 adults, $45 students/seniors/active military, $35 children 12 and under. The ships are offering two evening programs. At 6 p.m. July 31, Lady Washington will host guests for a three-hour romantic Sunset Sail. Prices for Sunset Sail tickets are $55 adults, $45 students/seniors/active military, $35 children 12 and under. New this visit is a special value-priced Evening Sail aboard Hawaiian Chieftain at 7 p.m. Monday August 2. Tickets for the two-hour tall ship experience are just $25 each.
