Celebration set for Trestle

The event is being hosted by Samish Indian Nation, Fidalgo R.V. Resort, Puget Sound Energy foundation and the City of Anacortes. Fidalgo Swing Band will be playing in the clubhouse, walk the trestle, informal speeches at 6:00, a group photo @ 6:20 between the R.V sites and condos, and ribbon cutting at 6:40.

Mayor Dean Maxwell will officially open the trestle with the ribbon-cutting, even though the trestle has been open since May 28.

City Parks Director Gary Robinson said the celebration is the city's way of saying 'thanks' to the volunteers who worked on repairing the trestle and the donors who gave more than $300,000.

A fire last October seriously damaged a 300 foot section of the trestle across Fidalgo Bay. Arson was the suspected cause, but there haven't been any arrests.
