The customer demanded that she be given free meals, but became upset when she was told that she would not get free food for something that occurred last month. The customer allegedly began to yell obscenities at the employee and slapped a full drink cup across the counter splattering the employee. An officer spoke with the customer later, identified as a 31-year-old Anacortes woman, who admitted to getting mad in the restaurant, but denied knocking the cup contents onto the employee. The case was forwarded to the City Prosecutor for review of possible assault charges.

Fri., Jan. 2
An officer checked the registration on an Eagle Talon in the main lot at the Washington State Ferry terminal and discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Orcas Island. The vehicle had several failure-to-pay notices attached to its window by the parking company that serviced the terminal. The parking attendant provided a brief description of an unknown young couple that had parked the car the previous week. The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and the owner of the car were contacted and advised of the car’s location.
Officers responded to the report of a domestic dispute at a house in the 2900 block of Oakes Ave. Officers learned that a man had been arguing with his 22-year-old step-son and that the man reported that the step-son had been “getting in his face.” It was learned that the dispute had been verbal only and the step-son agreed to leave.
Sat., Jan. 3
A woman taking a walk discovered numerous screens had been removed from back side windows of businesses in a complex in the 3100 block of Commercial Ave. One window was found ajar and it appeared that unknown burglars had entered the business through the window. The back door to the business was then discovered to be unlocked and was believed to be the exit point. Numerous drawers were found open inside of the business and one inner door appeared to have been pried in an attempt to open it. An employee responded and determined that a small floor safe was missing. The safe contained numerous checks from the previous month. A laptop computer and docking station valued at $1000 were also discovered missing.
Sun., Jan 4
A Ford Bronco was discovered to have its driver’s door window shattered while parked at the main Guemes Island Ferry lot. The owner of the car was contacted and he later checked the car reported that he was missing an I-pod docking station valued at $50. The repair cost for the broken window was estimated at $200.
A Jeep Cherokee owned by a Yakima man and a Subaru Legacy owned by a Tulalip woman both had windows broken out while parked at a marina parking lot in the 1000 block of Q Avenue. It was believed that the windows were broken with rocks that were found inside of the vehicles. It appeared that items inside of the vehicles had been scattered around, but it was unknown if anything had been stolen pending contact with the vehicle owners who were believed to be boating.
An officer stopped a car in the 1000 block of 12th Street for expired license tabs. The driver was identified as a 53-year-old Anacortes man who smelled slightly of intoxicants. The man consented to field sobriety tests on which he performed poorly including providing a portable breath test that was over three times the legal limit. He was placed under arrest for DUI. A woman arrived to take possession of the man’s car, but it was learned that she was the petitioner in a protection order that barred the man from having contact with her and that the vehicle could not be released to her. While the man was being processed for drunk driving, he admitted to the officer that he had called the woman to come get his car even though he was aware of the court order barring such activity. The man was cited for DUI and violating the no-contact order and booked into jail.
An Anacortes woman reported that someone had thrown a concrete block through the front passenger window of her Honda Accord while it had been parked in an alley behind a pub in the 300 block of Commercial Avenue. The woman said that she had only been away from her car for a short time, and that nothing appeared to have been taken from it.
Mon., Jan. 5
A Bellevue man reported that he had checked on his boat for the first time since Thanksgiving and discovered that someone had cut a security cable and stole the Honda outboard motor to the dinghy of his boat. The boat had been in storage at a boat yard in the 3200 block of T Avenue. The motor was valued at approximately $1000.
A 48-year-old Everett woman reported over the phone that she had been assaulted by her 42-year-old boyfriend a week earlier when they had been staying at an Anacortes motel in the 3000 block of Commercial Avenue. The woman said that her boyfriend had been drinking and that he became upset and “kicked” her off the bed. The woman said that she felt she had been injured and later discovered she had a black eye and began to feel worse. The woman said that she was later evaluated at an Everett hospital and learned she had suffered a broken rib and multiple contusions. The woman said that she still lived with the man in Everett and did not plan on coming back to Anacortes. The woman was asked to go to a neighboring police department to provide a written statement and the matter is under continued investigation.
An officer stopped a vehicle on Commercial Avenue for driving without headlights or taillights. The driver was identified as a 21-year-old Anacortes man. A records check showed the man had a warrant for his arrest out of the Skagit County District Court from a previous arrest for criminal attempt. He was taken into custody and booked into jail on the warrant.
An Anacortes man reported that the driver’s door window of his Ford LTD had been shattered by unknown means while the car was parked in the 1600 block of 20th Street. Nothing appeared to be missing from the car.
Tues., Jan. 6
An officer stopped a car in the 900 block of 11th Street for having expired license tabs. The officer noticed a strong odor of intoxicants on the driver and the driver displayed poor coordination while searching for his documentation. The driver was identified as a 45-year-old Bellingham man. The man denied he had been drinking even though he displayed numerous classic signs of alcohol consumption. The man had poor balance and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. He was arrested and processed for drunk driving and provided two breath samples that were approximately one and a half times the legal limit. The man was cited for DUI and released to a sober friend.
Wed., Jan 7
An officer stopped a car in the 1800 block of Commercial Avenue after it failed to stop for a flashing red light. The driver was identified as a 30-year-old Anacortes man. The officer smelled the odor of marijuana inside of the car asked the driver about the smell. The man then rummaged around between the two front seats and handed the officer a marijuana smoking pipe and a pill bottle containing a small amount of suspected marijuana. The man was placed under arrest and it was also learned his driver’s license was suspended. The man was cited and released for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
An employee of a business in the 1600 block of Commercial Avenue reported that sometime over night a window had been broken on a door to the business. It was unknown what had broken the glass.
Thur., Jan. 8
An Anacortes woman reported that she had left her wallet on a table unattended for a few minutes in a bar in the 300 block of Commercial Avenue. When she returned to the table, the wallet was missing. The woman said that she notified the bar staff and she and her friends searched for the wallet with no success. The wallet contained the woman’s identification, bank cards, and approximately $50 in cash.
The owner of a business in the 3200 block of R Avenue reported that she had discovered a window on the south side of the business had been broken sometime during the previous night. A rock was located on the ground below the window, but entry was not gained into the building.
Officers are investigating the report that a Burlington High School student’s car was and damaged by a golf club wielded by an Anacortes High School student. The incident reportedly occurred as a fight between groups of teens from the two schools was breaking up near the ball fields at 13th Street and G Avenue after a basketball game. The Burlington teen said he was driving away from the scene when someone hit his car with the golf club. Several witnesses and a possible suspect have yet to be interviewed and the investigation is continuing.
An Anacortes woman reported that a jack to the camper attached to her pickup had been damaged as the result of being hit by an unknown vehicle while she had been parked in the downtown area the previous week. The repair cost was estimated at $610.
A Decatur Island resident reported that unknown thieves had accessed a basement storage compartment on her motor home sometime in the past month and stole over $2700 worth of skis, ski clothing, ski accessories, golf clubs, and golf clothing and accessories. The motor home had been parked in the 2000 block of Skyline Way. The victim said that the main part of the motor home appeared to be undisturbed.
A couple was reported to be yelling at each other in a medical facility parking lot in the 1100 block of 24th Street. It was learned the couple was arguing over the man’s alleged refusal to sign paternity test paperwork confirming he was the father of their son so a parenting plan could be initiated. The man said that he wanted to consult with an attorney before signing the paperwork. It was determined that the argument had been verbal only and that no crime had occurred.
A 50-year-old Mount Vernon man was cited for hit and run and improper backing after he allegedly backed his 26-foot motor home into a car that had been parked in the 800 block of 30th Street. The owner of the car that was struck contacted the motor home driver and asked him to wait while he called the police, but the motor home driver drove away when the victim went to use the phone. A Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputy later located the suspect driver and an Anacortes officer then spoke with the driver on the phone. The man confirmed he had backed into the car but then said he did not want to say anything else without speaking to a lawyer. He was advised that he would be receiving his citations in the mail.
A 29-year-old Everett woman was taken into custody at Anacortes Municipal Court as she had two warrants for her arrest stemming from previous drug charges. With the court’s permission, the woman was then released after being given new court appearance dates.
A 27-year-old Anacortes man was taken into custody in the 2700 block of Commercial Avenue after it was confirmed that he had a felony warrant for his arrest for a previous 1st degree Theft charge. The man was booked into the county jail.
Fri., Jan. 9
An officer stopped a car for speeding and having a defective brake light on State Route 20 near R Ave. The driver was identified as a 20 year old Stanwood woman and the officer could smell a slight odor of intoxicants on her. The woman admitted to having a beer earlier and she provided a portable breath test sample that was under the legal limit for DUI. However, it did indicate she had been drinking and she was cited and released for underage drinking.
