An Oak Harbor woman reported that she had been driving up the road to Mount Erie when her car was struck by a car reported to be coming down the mountain at a high rate of speed. The female driver of the offending car stopped, acknowledged the accident was her fault, and urged the Oak Harbor woman not to call the police. The offending driver then left the scene with a notebook belonging to the victim driver after failing to identify herself. The suspect vehicle was later located at a house in the 2000 block of N Avenue and showed damage consistent with striking the other car. The vehicle was impounded after no one would come out to speak the officer. The matter is still under investigation.
A man and woman from Florida were contacted after it was reported the couple was arguing loudly while walking through the Arts Festival. The couple said that they were arguing about agreeing on where to get something to eat. No crime occurred and they were encouraged to be more civil in their communication.
An Anacortes man reported that while he had been out sailing, someone stole a camera and memory stick from his unlocked car that was parked near a marina in the 1000 block of Q Avenue. The value of the camera was estimated at $150.
A Guemes Island resident reported that someone had cut the gas line to her car while it had been parked near the Guemes Ferry terminal in Anacortes. The repair cost was estimated at $100.
An Anacortes resident reported the theft of two small wooden toy boats valued at $15 from a campsite at Washington Park.
August 2
A resident of the 2000 block of K Avenue reported the theft of four homemade shrimp pots from where they were stacked at the back of back of his house. The total value was estimated at $280.
A four-year-old girl was bitten by a German Shepherd while staying at her grandparent’s house in the 4300 block of A Avenue. The girl had been sleeping in the same room with the dog. The girl was bitten on the face and her father was bitten on the arm when he came to the girl’s aid. The girl received treatment at the local emergency room and the incident is being followed up on by the Animal Control Officer.
August 3
A 25-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for disorderly conduct after being belligerent at a restaurant in the 2800 block of Commercial Avenue. The man, who was riding a bicycle, had been refused service at the drive through window due to being intoxicated. The man then became irate and started yelling obscenities at the staff and other customers. The man ignored officer’s commands and tried to pedal away before being taken off of his bike and arrested. The man was cited and released after he admitted his actions had been “stupid.”
A couple argued at their residence in the 1400 block of 41st Street after returning home from a bar. The woman reported that her boyfriend was intoxicated and would not let her have her keys so she could leave. The man returned the keys after speaking with an officer and the woman left to spend the night at a relative’s house.
An Anacortes woman reported that she had parked in a parking lot at a store in the 1700 block of Commercial Avenue and had her driver’s door open as she prepared to get out of her car. The woman said that another vehicle driven by an unknown man pulled into the parking space next to her and collided with her open door and narrowly missed hitting her leg. The woman said that the man provided her with an insurance policy number, but that he then left without providing her with his name or any other information. The collision is under further investigation.
All-day arguing between a 27-year-old Anacortes man and his 24-year-old girlfriend at their residence in the 2300 block of Baron Place cumulated with the woman reporting that the man had pulled her hair and pushed her. The woman admitted to hitting the man, but witnesses confirmed the man was the primary aggressor. The man was stopped driving his car a short time later and booked into jail for domestic violence assault.
An Anacortes man reported the theft of a backpack that contained numerous prescription medications from inside of his car that was parked in a store parking lot in the 1500 block of Commercial Avenue. There was no evidence of forced entry into the car.
August 4
An officer saw a vehicle sitting at the stop sign at 22nd and J Avenue with its’ engine running and its lights on but with nobody visible inside. Closer inspection revealed that the driver was slumped over on his side inside of the car. The officer tapped on the window but the driver did not respond until the officer opened the door and tapped on him. The driver smelled strongly of intoxicants and showed other symptoms intoxication. The driver was determined to be 18 years old and he admitted he had “a couple of beers.” The driver said that he remembered stopping at the stop sign, but nothing after that. The driver was arrested for being in physical control of a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol. He provided two breath samples that were over the legal adult limit for driving. He was cited and released to a sober friend.
An Anacortes resident reported the theft of her purse from an unlocked vehicle in the 800 block of H Avenue. The purse contained the victim/’s wallet, checkbook, and cash.
A church in the 1000 block of 12th Street had graffiti of a crude nature drawn on the concrete handicap ramp of the building with what appeared to be a blue marking pen. Church members were able to clean off the markings.
A customer of a restaurant in the 500 block of Commercial Avenue reportedly intentionally broke a glass on the top of the bar which caused two employees to be struck with broken glass. The employees were not injured and the restaurant management requested that the customer be contacted and advised that he was no longer welcome at the business.
Officers responded to a residence in the 4100 block of R Avenue regarding the report of a physical domestic. Officers spoke with a 42-year-old woman who said that her 36-year-old boyfriend had gotten upset after she informed him that she wanted to end their relationship. The woman reported that the man was intoxicated and that he had thrown items around in their bedroom and smashed a telephone. Officers observed the damage and contacted the man as he was trying to leave out of the garage. The man was arrested for domestic violence malicious mischief and booked into jail.
Neighbors called 911 to report a fight inside of a house in the 700 block of Q Avenue. A 49-year-old woman was arrested for domestic violence assault after it was learned that she had argued with her mother and eleven-year-old son. The woman was intoxicated and allegedly hit her mother and son with a rolled up sweatshirt, bent the boy’s fingers back, and twisted the boys t-shirt around his neck while pushing his head down over the kitchen sink. The woman also allegedly pushed the boys head against a cupboard. The woman was booked into jail on two counts of assault.
August 5
Four 15-year-old Anacortes boys were suspected of writing graffiti and smashing beer bottles near the gazebo at Rotary Park. A wallet was found left at the scene that contained the identification of one of the boys. An officer contacted the boy and his mother at his residence. The boy smelled of alcohol and admitted he had been drinking at the park. The boy provided the names of the other boys. The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending.
A business in the 1400 block of Commercial Avenue reported receiving a check from a customer written a closed account. The check writer was a 50-year-old Anacortes woman who is being investigated and has been previously charged for writing numerous other checks on the closed account. Additional charges are pending against the woman.
An 87-year-old woman was found deceased in her bedroom by a family member in the 1500 block of 12th Street. The Deputy Coroner responded to the scene and the death appeared to be from natural causes.
The foreman for a construction project in the 1100 block of 22nd Street reported that vandals had broken conduit pipes, broke off survey markers, tore down safety signs, and left mounds of empty beer cans at the site. Extra patrol of the site was requested.
A resident of the 1300 block of 18th Street reported that someone had smashed an egg on the trunk of her car causing minor damage to the paint.
An Anacortes man reported that someone had stolen a toolbox containing assorted hand tools from the back of his pickup sometime in the past four months. It was unknown where the theft actually occurred.
August 6
A 29-year-old Anacortes man was identified as the driver of a pickup that crashed into a power pole in the 2200 block of H Avenue and then drove away. The man was contacted sitting next to his heavily damaged vehicle in the 1900 block of 24th Street after officers followed a trail of fluid leaking from the pickup. The man smelled heavily of intoxicants and admitted he had “a lot” to drink. He was taken to the emergency room for treatment for facial cuts he sustained in the accident. The man performed poorly on some field sobriety tests given at the hospital and he refused to consent to a blood draw. The man was cited for drunk driving, reckless driving, driving without a valid license, and having no insurance.
A resident in the 3700 block of W. 5th Street reported that some one had entered her home and stole two laptop computers, a digital camera, an iPod, and a credit card. The missing items were valued at approximately $2000. There was no sign of forced entry into the home.
August 7
A resident of the 2300 block of 32nd Street returned home to find his back sliding glass door open. The man was sure that he had left the door secured when he weft his house, but there was no sign of forced entry. The man inspected his property but nothing appeared to be missing.
A 19-year-old Arlington woman reported that she had been propositioned to have sex for money by a 59-year-old Anacortes man. The woman reported that she and her girlfriend had been paid by the man for modeling services they had performed. The woman said that she had later returned to the man’s residence to view the photos at which time the man offered her money to have sex with him. The matter is under investigation.
An Anacortes man reported that someone accessed his truck through an unsecured window while the vehicle was parked at Storvik Park and stole his wallet and some prescription medication. The man’s wallet contained his identification and approximately $450 in cash.
