In this week’s Anacortes Police Blotter: A resident discovered a large trebuchet, a kind of catapult, in her yard and in a separate incident, Police booked a man into jail in a domestic violence complaint.

Thursday, January 8, 2026

An officer was dispatched to a found property call in the 1900 block of 10th Street. An Anacortes woman called to report a trebuchet in her yard. The officer arrived on scene and observed a large catapult in the northeast corner of the reporting party’s yard. The structure was so large that it had to be moved via a truck. The officer informed her that he would be unable to do anything about the trebuchet and encouraged her to reach out to a friend to help dismantle it.

Friday, January 9, 2026

Dispatch advised of a welfare check request in the area of Commercial Avenue and Longview Avenue. The reporting party advised of a subject sitting on the side of the road who had been in the roadway. The reporting party believed that drug use was a factor. Officers responded to the area and located the woman in the area of Fidalgo Avenue and O Avenue. Officers contacted her and she said she was fine and didn’t need anything from law enforcement. Officers later determined that the woman matched the description of a woman with warrants for known possession of a controlled substance and third-degree theft. Dispatch confirmed the warrants, and officers booked the woman and released her.

Sunday, January 11, 2026

An officer was dispatched to a malicious mischief complaint in the 1000 block of Q Avenue. The reporting party, a security guard, informed dispatch that he had video showing a man cutting locks off Port of Anacortes property. An officer viewed the footage and was able to identify the man as a subject who had been trespassed from the property. The responding officer cited the man first first-degree criminal trespass.

Monday, January 12, 2026

There was a report of a trampoline that blew out of a yard in the area of 29th Street and J Avenue. An officer arrived on the scene and cleared the debris and located the home where the trampoline came from by following the broken springs. The homeowner on 30thStreet said they have had the trampoline for five years and that it was staked down very well, having withstood many windstorms before. She said she and her family would clean up the trampoline.

Tuesday, January 13, 2026

Dispatch advised of a domestic violence complaint in the 6100 block of Parkside Drive. The reporting party stated that his girlfriend was yelling at him and that she grabbed his wrist. His girlfriend claimed that the reporting party had grabbed her wrist. Their stories were conflicting, but officers observed that the woman had reddish marks on her wrist and found probable cause for fourth-degree domestic-violence assault. Officers completed charging paperwork and booked the man into jail.

Wednesday, January 14, 2026

An officer on routine patrol observed a white SUV with its right rear passenger door slightly ajar near the intersection of 9th Street and Q Avenue. The officer approached the vehicle and observed a subject under blankets in the vehicle who appeared to be sleeping. Officers began knocking on the window to get the attention of the man inside, and officers then observed that the man’s visible palm was discolored. They gained entry to the vehicle via the ajar rear passenger door and felt the subject’s hand, which was cold and stiff. AFD medics responded and confirmed that the man was deceased. Officers and the deputy county coroner processed the scene.

The reporting party contacted dispatch after seeing a missing cat flyer. She said she had seen the missing cat at her residence about six hours prior. Given the time delay, no action could be taken at the time.

The reporting party reported a person drifting with the current just outside the breakwater at Seafarers Memorial Park holding onto something. AFD and APD checked the area by land, boat and with a UAV and could not locate a person. It is believed that the reporting party saw a kneeboarder in the area who was drifting and then towed by a dinghy.
