Anacortes police this week responded to a complaint at a protest, investigated a fraud case involving financial loss and answered questons about an inappropriate video on a social media platform.

Friday, November 28, 2025

Officers were dispatched to a reported disorderly complaint taking place at a store in the 2400 block of Commercial Avenue. The reporting party advised that a subject had thrown a rock at her and was yelling at her. Officers arrived and contacted the reporting party. She said the woman had become upset because the reporting party had requested her ID prior to selling her an age-restricted item. The woman allegedly walked a short distance away, picked up a rock and threw it toward the woman. She said she did not believe the woman was trying to assault her and requested the woman be trespassed from the location. Meanwhile, other officers contacted the woman who had apparently thrown the rock. She was trespassed from the store.

An officer was dispatched to the 4000 block of I Avenue regarding a package theft. The reporting party told the officer that a package had been stolen off his porch the previous night. He showed the officer video of the woman who took the package. The responding officer recorded the video and distributed it to local law enforcement for identification of the suspect.

Sunday, November 30, 2025

Officers were dispatched to a reported assault in the area of 12th Street and Commercial Avenue. The reporting party stated that while protesting at the location, an unknown male reached across her sign and grabbed her whistle hard enough to choke her. She said she was on crosswalk duty across Commercial Avenue and blew her whistle to break up an argument between the male and another protestor. The unknown male then allegedly turned to her, grabbed the whistle, pulled and broke the string. The woman said she was not injured and had been able to breathe the whole time, and that the incident did not cause any pain, though she was startled. She showed a photo and a video of the two individuals who were involved and advised that she did not want to press charges. The officer provided a business card and case number related to the incident and checked the area for the individuals.

An Anacortes woman reported that her ex-husband had posted an inappropriate video on a social media platform featuring himself and his new girlfriend. She was concerned that this was illegal. The responding officer advised that this was not illegal and that the respective social media platform would need to take the appropriate action regarding the video.

Tuesday, December 2, 2025

An officer was dispatched to a fraud complaint in the APD lobby. The reporting party advised that she works for a church and that her work email was compromised by someone in October. She said the church bookkeeper had received an email from someone purporting to be the reporting party claiming she wanted to change her banking information. The information had been changed, and two of the reporting party’s paychecks had been taken out of the church’s account, and the reporting party had not received the money. She and the bookkeeper determined that her email had been hacked and the money was gone. The church paid her the missed paychecks and asked her to report the incident to the police so law enforcement is aware of these kinds of hacks.

An Anacortes woman called dispatch to report that someone claiming to be a Skagit County Sheriff’s Office sergeant called her to inform her that she had warrants for failure to appear in court and contempt of court. The responding officer checked the reporting party’s name and confirmed she had no active warrants.

Thursday, December 4, 2025

Dispatch advised of a removal complaint in the 400 block of Commercial Avenue. A manager at a restaurant reported that a woman was talking to herself and wandering around the restaurant all morning, and said the restaurant wanted her trespassed. Officers recognized the woman from a variety of previous contacts, including others at various locations around Anacortes. Officers completed a trespass notice.
