This week, Anacortes Police took multiple reports of mail theft and package theft.

Friday, January 3, 2025

An Anacortes man contacted APD regarding a mail theft. He reported that he had some thank-you cards in his outgoing mail the previous evening and put the mailbox flag up. The next morning, he discovered that the mailbox was open, the mail was gone, and the flag was still up. The responding officer discussed locking mailboxes and cameras as preventative measures against mail theft. This was one of several reported mail thefts in the city in the past week.

The reporting party heard shuffling in the area of Smiley’s Bottom and was concerned that a transient may be setting up camp. The responding officer checked the area and contacted several juveniles who were playing.

Monday, January 6, 2025

There was a report of a goat walking around in the roadway near H Avenue and 22nd Street. An Anacortes woman arrived shortly after and claimed the goat as hers.

Tuesday, January 7, 2025

Dispatch advised of a welfare check in the 4600 block of Yorkshire Drive. The reporting party said she was fighting with her husband, who was still on-site. She said they were currently separated. Officers responded and contacted the woman and her husband. The husband said they were fighting due to financial concerns, leading to a verbal argument. He maintained that he had maintained his composure, that he had not gotten physical or threatened her, and that he did not have any firearms in the residence. The officers found the statements made by the two to be consistent and concluded that the argument had remained verbal in nature. Domestic-violence resources were provided.

An officer was flagged down by an employee of a local business who requested the removal and trespass of a transient subject sleeping outside the corner of the business. Officers contacted the man and identified him. He was told he was being banned and that he needed to clean up his personal belongings. The business owner signed the trespass notice, and the transient male refused to sign but was provided with a copy.

An officer was assigned to a theft detail in the 1600 block of 13th Street. The reporting party said a package had been stolen from her doorstep, along with prescription medication from her mailbox. The woman had received a delivery photograph showing the package on her doorstep, but it was no longer there. The responding officer checked the area and documented the theft report.
