Anacortes Police this week chased a speeding car where the driver was turning his lights on and off. Just one of a number of police activities this week.

An Anacortes man called to report that he received a fraudulent phone call from a captain with the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office regarding a missed court date and a warrant for his arrest. The man said he realized it was a scam and hung up the phone, and that he had not provided any money nor his personal information. The responding officer documented the fraud attempt.

An officer was working a stationary radar device in the area of Highway 20 and Sharpe’s Corner and observed a group of vehicles approaching the location heading westbound. The officer observed a single vehicle passing others, changing lanes to do so, and then changing back into the righthand lane. The officer observed the vehicle traveling 50 miles per hour in a 30 miles-per-hour zone. The vehicle appeared to be attempting to remain undetected, turning its lights off and on periodically. The vehicle would not stop for the officer who had activated his lights and siren. Officers ended up locating the vehicle and its alleged driver, who had warrants for attempting to elude a police vehicle and reckless driving, along with a juvenile warrant. Officers ended up booking him on his warrants and under investigation of attempting to elude a police vehicle.

An APD officer was driving northbound on Q Avenue and observed a vehicle with an expired registration. The officer initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, who said he could not renew his license due to a ticket he had received. Officers took him into custody without incident after discovering that his driving status was suspended in the second degree via dispatch. Officers searched him and released him from custody with a copy of his citation.

An officer was dispatched to a vehicle prowl complaint in the 2100 block of 19th Street. The reporting party said his vehicle had been prowled, though it appeared nothing had been taken. The man did not want to pursue charges, but he had found items in his vehicle scattered throughout the inside. He said he believed the vehicle was left unlocked. The officer documented the prowl.

An Anacortes man reported that he was stopped at the stop sign in the 900 block of 26th Street facing west to cross Commercial Avenue when another vehicle began to cross Commercial in the opposite direction and then turned, hitting his vehicle. The vehicle initially stopped, the reporting party said, but then drove away. The officer completed a report for the accident and provided the reporting party with a case number.

An Anacortes man called to report that a package had been taken containing a pair of skis in the 2300 block of 15thStreet. The man said his roommate was supposed to retrieve the package but could not find it after it was delivered. The roommate also discovered that some of his own packages were missing. The responding officer provided a case number for the man’s records, and contacted his roommate to gather his account of the package thefts.
