Police Blotter, September 23 - 28, 2022

In terms of actual calls related to riders here for Oyster Run on Sunday, we had one call a little before 3 p.m. of a rider down at 27thStreet and Commercial Avenue; she was transported to Island Health for dehydration. There was also a report of a taken motor vehicle at Ninth Street and Commercial Avenue (a Harley-Davidson motorcycle). It’s also important to note the fatality crash that occurred on Highway 20 near La Conner-Whitney Road involving two motorcycles, though that was not in our jurisdiction. Overall, it was a relatively quiet day in Anacortes (aside from the literal noise); we actually had zero calls for service from about 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., which is right after the event officially ends. Enforcement-wise, it was a pretty uneventful day. People behaved and enjoyed themselves downtown.

A 27-year-old Burlington man reported a cold theft and requested that an officer contact him. An officer responded, and the man reported that two suspects had come onto a business property and siphoned gas from two vans in the 2400 block of J Avenue. The suspects siphoned a total of 40 gallons from the two vehicles. Video surveillance showed two subjects walking onto the property to the vans and then leaving. The officer obtained the videos to assist with identifying the suspects.

An anonymous reporting party called with concerns about a semi truck with a generator that had been running for hours in the residential area of Cherry Court. An officer talked with several neighbors after noticing a small generator running when checking the area. The officer explained that there was nothing illegal about the location or actions of the truck with the generator running. Later, officers contacted the owner of the truck, who said he was unaware of the noise. He turned off the compressor and advised that there should be no further issues.

An officer was dispatched to the 800 block of Fourth Street for a reported motor vehicle collision. The officer contacted a woman who advised that she had parked her vehicle and walked down to the Oyster Run. When she returned, she found that an unknown vehicle had ripped the front bumper and headlight assemblies off her car. A man contacted her and said he had been parked across the street and witnessed a Dodge pickup cutting too close to the woman’s vehicle while exiting its parking spot. The driver appeared to leave a note on the car, but the note only read “Pleas call” with no phone number or identifying information. The pickup had no front license plate. The investigation is inactive pending the location of the suspect vehicle.

A 47-year-old Bellingham man reported that his motorcycle was missing from the area of Ninth Street and Q Avenue. Downtown APD units contacted the man and determined that the motorcycle appeared to have been stolen, not misplaced. The man signed the bike as stolen and submitted a photo to the responding officer.

A local property manager called and requested contact because a man called her and told her to make the music stop playing or he would go out and shoot someone. Officers contacted the manager and informed her that they would talk to him. The man informed officers that he was having a panic attack and that it was worse because of the motorcycles the previous day during Oyster Run. The officers told the man to call 911 if there are any issues in the future. They advised that it was a reasonable time for someone to be playing music (about noon).

An employee at a local business called to report that the business had been broken into overnight. She found the deadbolt was not engaged and found numerous drawers and cupboards left open throughout the office. She then found the front entrance of the building kicked in and the door framing on the ground. A television and room kit had been stolen, totaling about $8,800. About $10,250 in damage was done to the building. The officer collected a windowpane to be checked for fingerprints.

Officers were dispatched to a report of two intoxicated men outside the Anacortes Library. They had been asked to leave, but they yelled at an employee when he did so. Officers arrived and observed one man yelling at the employee and another man yelling at the man yelling at the employee. Both were banned and asked to move along, acknowledging that if they return, they will be arrested.

One of the men from the previous call was reported to be fighting with another man in the 900 block of 11th Street. Officers arrived and contacted the men. One advised that he had been punched in the face multiple times by the man from the previous call. He said he did not want to press any charges.

The owner advised that the propane tank taken was worth about $65. The responding officer distributed images of the suspect for possible identification.
