Police Blotter, September 18 - 23, 2021

On Wednesday, Sept. 22, a business owner expressed concern regarding a motorhome parked for nearly a week, recently joined by a second, in the 200 block of O Avenue. Officers contacted the motorhomes. One was parked in the wrong direction and had sheets in many of the windows. There was no answer when officers knocked. A second motorhome was leaking fluid which appeared to be sewage. Officers were able to contact the registered owner, who said she may have let her tank “go a little too far.” She was asked to voluntarily move, which she agreed to do. She noted she would go to a dumping station to handle the leaking fluid issue. Officers attempted to contact someone at the second motorhome at a later time, but again were unsuccessful.

A vehicle came driving down the middle, disregarding the employee’s instructions, and continued forward, striking the worker at a slow speed and continuing forward for several feet. The worker then put his hands on the car and the driver stopped in the inside lane, the opposite of where he was directed. The worker advised he did not have injuries and wished to pursue charges. The driver, an 84-year-old Lopez Island man, told officers the incident was over a disagreement over where to park, as he wanted to park on the left side to allow for his wife to exit the passenger door. He said his vehicle never touched the ferry worker. A witness came forward who also said she did not see the man’s vehicle touch the worker. Washington State Patrol will complete the investigation.
