A local 37-year-old woman was cited for a hit and run motor vehicle accident after an APD Officer heard from the owner of the victim vehicle.
The victim’s car was reportedly struck early morning on May 27th and sustained substantial damage. After taking the damage report, the officer drove through the neighborhood and noticed a damaged car parked nearby so he contacted the owner to speak with her. The at-fault driver told police that she swerved to avoid an oncoming car and struck the parked sedan. She was not injured in the collision.

A local woman told police that she hung up on a scammer after realizing that the link she clicked on was a fake Microsoft website informing her that she needed to call. The scammer attempted to scam her out of $300 to no avail.
A mid-sized sedan was driving on the 1400 block of Q Avenue on the evening of the 22nd. The vehicle caught an APD Officer’s eye because it had registration tabs that expired in January. Further investigation revealed that the car had been sold in late 2020, but the title had not been transferred. As a result of these findings, the officer pulled the car over, immediately recognizing the 27-year-old Sedro-Woolley driver and 23-year-old Sedro-Wooley passenger. The driver had s suspended driver’s license and two arrest warrants out of the Anacortes and Burlington Municipal Court respectively. The passenger had 4 warrants, including a felony warrant out of Superior Court. Both vehicle occupants were taken into custody. The jail would not accept either person, so they were booked and released on their warrants and the driver was given citations for driving while license suspended and failure to transfer title within 45 days.

A 21-year-old Camano Island woman was given a speeding ticket and a citation for driving while license suspended just after noon on the 23rd. The driver was pulled over because the car she was driving was traveling approximately 12mph over the posted speed limit on westbound Sunset Avenue. On contact, the woman could not provide a valid driver’s license, and a routine check revealed that her license was suspended. She was taken into custody without incident, and later released. The licensed passenger then took on the responsibility of driving from the scene.

Just before midnight on the 24th, APD Officers responded to the intersection of Satterlee Road and Summit Park Road because a Swinomish Tribal Officer called out over the radio that they were with a sedan that appeared to have recently driven off the road into the bushes. The driver and only vehicle occupant, a 34-year-old woman, was not injured. The driver told officers that she glanced down at her phone at an inopportune time and when she looked up she was going through the intersection and into the ditch. The woman smelled faintly of alcohol and later blew a breath sample of over the legal limit to safely operate her car. An officer transported the driver to APD after taking her into custody for DUI and another officer arranged to have the damaged car towed from the scene. The woman was later released with a copy of her DUI citation.

A black 1997 Honda Civic sedan with gold rims was stolen from the 2000 block of M Avenue sometime on the night of the 24th. The theft was reported early morning on the 25th and that evening, a Mount Vernon Police Officer contacted the Anacortes Police Department informing us that the car had been recovered.
A 19TH Street resident called police on the 25th to report that someone broke the lock off his garden shed and stole his recently purchased Ego brand weed eater. The item is valued at approximately $200. There are no suspects.
Mid-afternoon on the 25th, APD Officers responded to a 12th Street business after receiving notice that there was a 55-year-old male on scene that had been previously banned from their property. Officers later contacted the man and cited him for criminal trespassing.
Mid-afternoon on the 25th, a 27th Court resident contacted police because sometime overnight, prescription medication was stolen from her unlocked car. There are no suspects.

A local resident contacted police late in the day on the 26th because he noticed that his older model sedan was missing. The responding officer filled out a stolen vehicle report but did not notice anything of evidentiary value to help determine who was responsible for the crime. A graveyard shift officer found the car, unoccupied, in a parking lot on Commercial Avenue approximately two hours later. The car looked like it had been there for quite a while with no signs of forced entry or tampering. The owner was later reunited with his car.

Police were called to a 12th Street business just after 8AM on Thursday to contact a man known to them who appeared to be in a state of mental crisis. The business called because the man had been previously banned from their property. Officers contacted the man a short distance away and took him into custody for trespassing. The man was later booked in the Skagit County Jail on his trespassing charge and a mental health evaluation as ordered by the court.
A man called police on Thursday night because his fiancé was refusing to leave and was damaging items in the home. On scene, officers found a large painting with damage to the protective glass covering. Investigation revealed that the woman and man got into a verbal argument, and although there was nothing physical between the two of them that night, the damage to the painting occurred in the midst of the argument. The woman, a local 58-year-old, was taken into custody and booked in jail on a malicious mischief domestic violence charge.
