Police Blotter, Oct. 18 - 24, 2013

Friday, Oct. 18

12:15 pm. A white-colored Rendova-brand 11-foot rigid hull inflatable dinghy with an attached 25-horsepower Mercury outboard motor that was on an EZ-Loader trailer was stolen from a parking lot in the 2200 block of Skyline Way sometime in the previous 2-1/2 months. The total loss was estimated at $8,000. There are no suspects at this time.

12:48 pm. A Fidalgo Island man reported that he had been walking in the area of 17th Street and K Avenue when he spotted a group of raccoons walking towards a tree near a residence. The man said that he approached the tree to investigate if the raccoons were using the tree to gain access into the home. The man reported that he looked up into the tree and a large amount of what he believed to be raccoon saliva dropped into his eye. The man told police that his eye then became infected and that he went to the local emergency room for treatment for “rabies.” Police later contacted the property manager, who said that there were no raccoons living inside of the residence, although tenants had seen them outside, but the animals had not been a problem.

1:01 pm. A metallic pink women’s mountain bike valued at $50.00 was stolen from outside of a home in the 4400 block of Oakes Avenue. The bike was reported to be locked at the time of the theft.

5:15 pm. A green-colored Kona-brand bicycle valued at $1,300 was reported stolen from the garage of a home in the 1100 block of 18th Street. Also stolen were two pairs of sunglasses with a total value of $200 and a CD case containing approximately $150 worth of compact discs that were inside of the victim’s vehicle parked in the garage. The victim had left her garage door open while mowing the lawn and believed the theft had occurred during that time.

11:23 pm. A 27-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested in the 800 block of 7th Street for having an outstanding warrant out of Mount Vernon from a previous criminal trespass charge. The woman was taken to the police station where she was given a new court date as the jail would not accept her for booking due to overcrowding.

11:24 pm. An officer arrested a 27-year-old Anacortes man in the 1000 block of O Avenue after learning that the man had a felony warrant for his arrest stemming from previous charges of DUI, hit and run, eluding, and violating a protection order. The man told the officer that he had “PTSD” from spending ten months in prison and that he could not go back to jail. The officer located a digital scale and a baggy containing suspected methamphetamine in the man’s jacket pocket when he was searched. The man was booked into jail on the warrant and faces a new charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Saturday, Oct. 19

2:48 am. An officer recognized an 18-year-old Anacortes man walking in the 1000 block of 24th Street and was aware that the man had a felony warrant for his arrest for two counts of residential burglary. The man was taken into custody without incident and booked into the county jail.

3:52 am. A woman reported that her 22-year-old boyfriend had shoved her and taken her phone and that she had locked herself in a bathroom at her home in the 1500 block of 15th Street. When police arrived, the man was passed out in a bedroom. The woman told police that the man had arrived at the residence intoxicated and that he began to yell at her about money issues. The man then allegedly pushed the woman in the chest and shoved her into a wall while yelling that he would “break her face.” The man then allegedly grabbed the woman’s phone from her when she said that she was calling the police. The man then entered the bedroom and passed out at which time the woman called police. The woman had several fresh red marks on her chest. The man was placed under arrest and booked into jail on charges of domestic violence assault and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence. The man told police that “nothing” had happened.

Sunday, Oct. 20

7:41 pm. A woman who spent the night at a friend’s home in the 1800 block of Commercial Avenue awoke to discover that her cell phone and Playboy-brand wallet were missing. The wallet reportedly contained the woman’s debit card and $300 in cash. The woman said that there had been ten or eleven people at the home while she had been there and that she was suspicious of a man who resides in Mount Vernon. The theft is under further investigation.

Tuesday, Oct. 22

12:07 pm. The owner of a boat moored at a marina in the 1600 block of 5th Street reported that four rolls of vessel pin-striping tape, a heavy duty extension cord, a stainless steel ashtray, and a deck brush had been stolen from his boat in the past few weeks. The loss was estimated at $300. The victim was suspicious of a man he had hired to detail his boat earlier in the year and the matter is under further investigation.

1:15pm. A homeowner in the 800 block of W Avenue discovered possible pry marks on the door to his shop. No entry was made into the shop and damage to the door was minimal.

10:40 pm. An officer arrested a 27-year-old Anacortes woman who was walking in the 1600 block of M Avenue after confirming the woman had a felony warrant for her arrest from a previous charge of possession of a controlled substance. A methamphetamine smoking pipe was found in a backpack the woman was wearing when she was searched. The woman told the officer that the pipe belonged to a “friend.” The woman was booked into jail on the warrant as well as a new charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Wednesday, Oct. 23

7:33 am. Two pickups parked at a home in the 2000 block of J Avenue were prowled during nighttime hours. A Dewalt-brand laser level valued at $1,100 and $5.00 in cash were stolen from one pickup. The cash was stolen from the interior and the level had been taken out of a toolbox attached to the bed of the truck. The other pickup had items strewn about the interior, but nothing appeared to be missing. Both vehicles had been left unlocked.

6:00 pm. Police were unable to locate the suspect in a shoplifting at a grocery store in the 900 block of 11th Street. An employee had witnessed the suspect leave the store without paying for a shopping cart full of items that included three cases of beer, several bottles of liquor, and laundry detergent. The items totaled $460. The employee contacted the suspect outside of the store and the suspect then fled on foot while leaving the stolen items. The suspect was described as a white male, approximately six feet tall, with a stocky build and a red beard. He was wearing a black sweatshirt and a white hat at the time of the theft.

Thursday, Oct. 24

8:49 am. A resident of the 1100 block of 4th Street reported that someone had entered her house and stole several prescription pain pills from a bottle that had been inside of her purse. The victim said that she had been upstairs and that her purse had been downstairs during the timeframe of the theft. The victim provided the name of a possible suspect and the crime is under further investigation.
