Police Blotter, Feb. 15 - 21, 2013

A woman reported she left her white 1993 Toyota truck in the Guemes Ferry parking lot Thursday night, Feb. 14 and the next morning discovered it was gone.  On Feb. 22, Snohomish County Deputies located the truck while arresting a 31-year-old Anacortes man for burglary and drug charges. Unfortunately, the man would not exit the vehicle at the time of his arrest, causing deputies to have to break out the driver’s side window of the truck. On Feb. 20, a second vehicle that was parked at the ferry dock was reported damaged sometime since Feb. 11. The driver-side door handle had been broken, but it did not appear the vehicle had been entered.

Friday, Feb. 15

9:30am.  A 31-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested following a report that she had assaulted her 58-year-old mother at their home in the 2300 block of “J” Ave.  The woman claimed that she and her mother had argued over her mom being a bad mother and she told officers that she grabbed her mother and tried to push her out of the house.  The mother reportedly told officers her daughter pushed her to the ground and broke a lamp during the argument.  

Saturday, Feb. 16

10:32 pm.  Officers responded to a large juvenile party in the 1400 block of 25th St.  Four arrests for underage drinking were made, and some marijuana paraphernalia was confiscated as none of the party attendees was over 21 and could not legally possess marijuana or marijuana paraphernalia.

Sunday, Feb. 17

1:23 am.  A 28-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for DUI and possession of a cocaine after he was contacted in the 1100 block of “F” Ave. An officer on routine patrol was investigating some suspicious activity when the man drove up and parked his car in front of the officer’s vehicle.  The officer walked up to the man’s vehicle and he opened his driver-side door.  In doing so a small plastic bag with a ball of white powdery substance rolled onto the floorboard into the officer’s view.  The man reportedly said, “that isn’t mine.”  The man was asked to exit the vehicle so that the officer could investigate further. As the officer talked with the man it became apparent that he was showing signs of impairment including poor balance, slurred speech, smelled of alcohol and was unable to pass field sobriety tests. The man was taken to the police department for a blood alcohol test and was booked into jail.

9:21 pm.  A 14-year-old boy will be referred to Juvenile Court for being a minor consuming alcohol after his mother summoned officers to assist her with the boy.  The woman told officers that her son had been in Mount Vernon with friends and had been a passenger in a car that had been involved in a collision. Another parent brought her son home, but she became concerned about his odd behavior and suspected he had a concussion.  When she attempted to take him to the hospital he fled onto “Q” Ave.  Officers contacted the boy and determined he had been drinking alcohol. He was returned to family members.

9:30 pm.  A GPS tracker on a stolen 2011 Chevrolet Camero lead officers to the 2300 block of 12th St. where they located the car and identified two men who claimed they had permission from the owner to take the car.  The car was stolen out of Snohomish County and after the victim and investigating officers were contacted, the two men were released and the car was returned to the owner.

11:07 pm.  An 18-year-old man and his two friends ages 17 and 15 reported that they had been the victim of the road rage incident.  They reported to an officer that they were followed by a truck out of the Safeway parking lot, up 12th to “D” Ave and then southbound on “D” by a truck that was tailgating them.  The truck then passed them and stopped in front of their car.  They said a man exited the truck, came to the driver’s side of the vehicle and punched the 18-year-old driver in the face, returning to his truck without uttering a word.  The officer noted that the driver had a slight injury to his lip. The 45-year-old suspect was contacted and explained that he has a lift kit style truck and his headlights are bright and annoy other drivers.  He claimed the boys were making obscene gestures, and mouthing expletives at him as well as applying their brakes in a manner known as “brake jacking.”  He said he lost his temper and pulled in front of the kids, stopped and started yelling at them. He denied striking the driver.  The case has been sent to the City Prosecutor for a charging decision.

Monday, Feb. 18

1:00 pm.  A 35-year-old Anacortes man was cited for theft after a hardware store in the 1100 block of Commercial reported that they observed the man steel several items including a Carhart brand jacket on February 13th.  An officer was summoned after the man returned to the store.  The man reportedly admitted to the theft and took the officer to his home, where the jacket was recovered.

Thursday, Feb. 21

7:30 pm.  A 24-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for DUI after a citizen called 911 to report the man’s bad driving westbound on highway 20 coming into Anacortes. An officer spotted the vehicle as it came on to Commercial Ave and observed that vehicle weaving in its lane as well. The officer stopped the car and observed that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The drive failed physical sobriety tests and  was taken to the station for a blood alcohol test and released to a sober person.
