Police Blotter, Nov. 2 - 9, 2012

A man who had been recently released from jail on burglary charges walked into the police station on Monday, Nov. 5, to inquire about the return of a bicycle he was riding at the time of his arrest.  Police informed the man that the actual owner of the bike had reported it stolen about an hour after the man had been initially arrested and it had been returned to its rightful owner.  The man was then taken into custody as he had five misdemeanor warrants for his arrest out of Anacortes and Island County.

When the man was searched, police found a small amount of suspected heroin, a small amount of marijuana, and various items of drug paraphernalia on him.  The man said that since he had just gotten out of jail, he had wanted to “party a little bit.”  Since the jail would not accept the man for booking, he was released on the warrants after being given new court dates.  He was also advised that felony drug charges were forthcoming.  The man was also very open about telling the police that he often committed thefts to support his drug habit.

1:19 pm.  Police responded to a motel in the 900 block of 9th Street regarding the report of a man and woman arguing loudly.  Officers contacted the couple who had been involved in a dating relationship and saw fresh bite marks on the 21-year-old Anacortes man’s arm.  The man initially claimed that he had bitten himself, but then said that the woman had bitten him.  The woman admitted to biting the man but she said that she had only did it because the man had grabbed her around the neck and put her in a choke hold. The man had also allegedly pushed her against a wall and pinned her down on a bed while yelling at her to return a bicycle she had borrowed.  The woman said that her back hurt as the result of being pushed around.  The bite mark on the man’s arm was consistent with the woman claim that the man had been behind her with his arms around her neck.  The man was determined to be the primary aggressor, but he left the scene while police were speaking with the woman.  He was issued a court summons for domestic violence assault.

4:34 pm.  A 49-year-old Sedro-Woolley woman was taken into custody in the lobby of the police station as she had a warrant for her arrest out of Skagit County District Court stemming from a domestic violence assault charge.  The county jail would not accept her for booking and she was released after being given a new court date.
