Late Thursday night, a 21-year-old man was booked into jail on charges of domestic violence assault after he allegedly grabbed his 23-year-old girlfriend around the throat during the course of an argument at their motel room in the 1100 block of 6th Street.
Police were initially called to the local emergency room where the woman was being treated for possible neck injuries. The woman initially told police that she had been assaulted by an unknown male who had come up behind her outside of the motel. The woman said that the stranger had choked her and slammed her head into the ground before running off when he saw approaching headlights. Police were suspicious of the woman’s story especially after she said that she would not want to pursue criminal charges if the stranger was located and arrested. The marks on the woman’s neck also appeared to be several hours old and not consistent with her story.
When confronted with the inconsistencies in her story, the woman admitted that she had lied and that her boyfriend had actually grabbed her by the throat several hours earlier during an argument. The woman said that she had fabricated the story to protect her boyfriend. The boyfriend was arrested at the motel and he admitted to grabbing the woman by the neck but he denied choking her. The woman was charged with false reporting.
