Police Blotter, Oct. 19 - 26, 2012

A 43-year-old Anacortes man was booked into jail on assault charges after he allegedly beat up a 13-year-old boy at the man’s home in the 1000 block of 12th Street early Thursday morning, Oct. 25.  The boy is the son of the man’s ex-girlfriend and had returned to Anacortes to live with the man for awhile, but had changed his mind when he realized the man’s behavior patterns had not changed.

The man had reportedly come home from being out drinking and became enraged at the boy when the boy told him he wanted to return to live with his mother.  The man allegedly beat on the boy for almost an hour by punching him in the face and head repeatedly, throwing him around the room and over furniture, pressing his boot into the boy’s sternum and grinding back and forth, and whipping the boy with a belt.  The boy had bruises and welts on his face, neck, and arms.  The boy was examined and treated at the hospital after it was initially believed his arm might have been broken.

Police spoke with neighbors who lived in the suspect’s building and they said that they had heard the man yelling at the boy but had not seen the assault.  However, one neighbor said that the suspect had told him, “The little bastard got his ass whooped.”  Police arrested the man at his home/shop without incident.  The man told police that he was tired of the boy’s “belligerent attitude” and that he had enough.  The man denied punching the boy but said that “maybe” he hit him with a belt.

The man claimed that he was a trained fighter and that the boy would be “in the hospital or dead” if he had really been trying to harm him.  The man said that he had just been “trying to teach the boy some respect.”

Here are some other cases Anacortes Police worked on last week.
