Police Blotter, Jan. 29, 2011

The home of an Anacortes couple was burglarized the day after they left on an extended vacation. A neighbor discovered the burglary. That’s just one of the cases on this week’s Police Blotter.

Monday, Jan. 24

A home in the 4100 block of Mitchell Dr. was reported burglarized overnight.  Neighbors told officers the couple who lives there left a day earlier for an extended vacation.  Today when the neighbor was checking the home he discovered that someone had broken out a window in the garage and entered the home.  A grey 2007 Saturn Ion WA. Lic#698VKR was taken as well as numerous items from the home.  Those items include liquor, prescription oxycontin, a Phoenix .22 caliber pistol, numerous pieces of jewelry including an antique gold ring with the initials EHH on it, two antique watches, diamond stud earrings, and to antique rosaries. 

Tuesday, Jan 25

A 28-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested for DUI after an officer spotted her speeding in the 2200 block of Commercial Ave.  After stopping the vehicle she was driving, he noticed she smelled strongly of liquor.  She failed field sobriety tests was arrested and taken to the Police Department for a BAC. 

An Everett man reported his car had been prowled sometime in the past two days while parked in a lot in the 1000 block of “Q” Qve.  Two bottles of prescription medication and $180 worth of CDs were taken from his unsecured vehicle.

Police received a report that two outboard motors were discovered hidden in some construction materials in the North Basin parking lot at Cap Sante Marina.  A  9.9 hp Mercury outboard, a 9.9 hp Honda outboard and two gasoline tanks were discovered.  On Jan. 27 a Vancouver, BC man reported his Mercury outboard was taken from his boat in Cap Sante sometime since January 8th.   The serial numbers on his outboard matched the ones on the outboard recovered earlier in the week. 

A 43-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for violating a no contact order and investigation of possession of methamphetamine after officers were called to a disturbance in the 2100 block of 33rd St.  A resident there had reported that the man was at his mother’s house in violation of a court order and was removing things from the home.  Officers contacted the man and arrested him for violating the order.  While searching the man prior to taking him to jail, an officer located what he believed to be small bag of methamphetamine in the man’s pants pocket.  Before the officer could say anything the man reportedly told the officer the drugs were not his.  The officer then read the man his Miranda warning and the man reportedly claimed, “These aren’t my pants.”  After a brief conversation the officer reported the man acknowledge ownership of the drugs and the pants.  He was booked into the jail. 

A student at Anacortes Middle School reported that he rode his blue Trek Jumper mountain bicycle to school and left it unlocked in the bicycle rack.  When school was out, he discovered his bike was gone. The bicycle was valued at $400.

A woman reported to police that she stopped to see a friend for a few minutes in the 1600 block of 14th St.  Because she was only staying a few minutes she left her car unlocked and her purse sitting on the seat.  When her visit ended after 45 minutes she discovered the purse was missing.  Missing items include a black leather purse, missing credit cards, and $100 in cash. 

A 21-year-old woman reported that she was assaulted by her 21-year-old boyfriend.  Officers responded to the 3600 block of Michelle Ln. where the woman reported that she and her 26-year-old boyfriend had argued and he had pushed her in to a medicine cabinet and then grabbed her by the throat during an argument.  She said he tried to take her cell phone as she called 911.  The man was gone on officers arrival and they were unable to locate him.  Charges have been referred to the Prosecuting Attorney for filing. 

A resident in the 2200 block of 37th Ct. reported returning home this evening to find an intruder in the house.  The man was described as a young white male wearing jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt.  When confronted he ran out of the house and through the yard.  A canine unit from the Sheriffs Office was called and tracked the man for several blocks but was unable to locate him.  A Colt 1911 .45 caliber pistol was taken from the home.  The pistol was carried by the resident’s grandfather in WWII and has great sentimental value to the family. 

Wednesday, Jan. 26

A blue and silver men’s three speed Schwin Jaguar bicycle was taken overnight from outside a home in the 1300 block of 9th St.  The bicycle is valued at $100. 

A resident in the 4700 block of Glasgow Way reported $773 worth of unauthorized purchases made on her debit card in Arizona.  The woman’s bank was reimbursing her for the fraudulent activities and officers encouraged her to report the activity on www.ic3.gov.

Thursday, Jan. 27

Police received a report of an intoxicated man outside a local establishment in the 300 block of Commercial Ave.  They contacted a 35-year-old La Conner man who appeared very intoxicated.  The man had an arrest warrant for burglary and was arrested.  While searching the man prior to taking him to jail, officers located 1o grams of marijuana on his person.  He was cited for possession of marijuana.
