Saturday, Jan. 1
The third call of 2011 resulted in the first arrest of the year. A 26-year-old Anacortes man had been reveling in the New Year at an establishment in the 300 block of Commercial Ave. When the reportedly intoxicated man’s celebration became vulgar and offensive to the other patrons, he was asked to leave. When he refused, the police were summoned. Police discovered the man was also in possession of a handgun. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, and illegal possession of a handgun inside a licensed establishment.
A resident in the 2300 block of 15th St. awoke to the sound of breaking glass and discovered that someone had entered a pick-up truck parked on the street in front of their residence. It appeared the suspect climbed into the bed of the truck through an unlocked canopy window and then smashed out the rear window of the truck and climbed into the cab. The only thing that is believed missing were some cigarettes.
Police were summoned to an establishment in the 500 block of Commercial Ave. after a patron declined to pay for a margarita. The reportedly intoxicated patron was not satisfied with the cocktail. When the patron saw the police had arrived, he decided to pay his bill and leave without further issues.
A 23-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for Malicious Mischief DVPA and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant after his neighbors in the 1000 block of 27th St. called police because they could hear a couple in the apartment complex arguing and could hear objects being thrown. Officers contacted the man outside of the apartment and he reportedly admitted to throwing things and punching a couple holes in the wall during an argument with his 20-year-old girl friend. He was booked into the Skagit County Jail.
Monday, Jan. 3
Three La Conner men were arrested after a routine traffic stop in the 1000 block of 29th St. An officer on routine patrol spotted the car as it turned onto 23rd. The vehicle did not signal the turn and in addition, a rear passenger door was open while the car was in motion. On contacting the driver he could not provide a drivers license, vehicle registration, or proof of insurance. In addition there was a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. Officers noticed he smelled of marijuana. A brief investigation revealed a water pipe, a small amount of marijuana and some malt liquor beverages in the car. The 3 passengers submitted to portable breath tests. The La Conner men both were found to have consumed alcohol and were cited. A 16-year-old Anacortes girl had not been drinking and was released to her parents. The 27-year-old driver was arrested for the warrant, driving on a suspended license, and furnishing alcohol to minors.
A 21-year-old Anacortes women was arrested for Assault 4th DVPA and her 26-year-old boyfriend was arrested for malicious mischief after police were called to an apartment in the 900 block of 22nd St. Both subjects reported to police that they had argued, the boyfriend said something to make the woman angry, she hit him across the face, he threw his cell phone hard enough to embed it in the drywall of the women’s apartment. Officers observed swelling and discoloration on the man’s face consistent with being struck.
A delivery truck that had not been used over the holidays was prowled over the last ten days. A business in the 9000 block of Marches Pt. Rd. discovered a Garmin GPS, electrical inverter, HP portable printer, and a small video screen used for backing up had been taken from the unlocked truck.
Three boxes of faux flooring stones were taken from outside a residence in the 2100 block of 33rd St. sometimes since January 1st. The faux stones were valued at $100 a box.
Tuesday, Jan. 4
A resident in the 2000 block of “I” Ave. reported that her car had been broken into overnight and her purse was taken from inside. Entry was gained by throwing a rock through a passenger side window. The purse had been lying on the seat. It contained the woman’s identification, credit cards, checks, and $200 cash.
A woman in the 1300 block of Broadview Ave. reported that her son’s mountain bike had been stolen sometime in the past week. Police had already impounded the bike as it was used by a suspect in a previous burglary case.
Wednesday, Jan. 5
A 60-year-old Anacortes man was cited for disorderly conduct following an incident at the Guemes Island ferry dock. Reportedly a 63-year-old Guemes Island man was sitting in his truck waiting for the ferry, when the Anacortes man approached his truck, leaned in and started cursing and yelling at the man. Apparently the Anacortes man had previously worked for the Guemes man and had some unresolved issues. The Anacortes man’s aggressive behavior prompted a call to police that there maybe a fight brewing. A third man approached the Anacortes man and restrained him until the police arrived.
Thursday, Jan. 6
A resident in the 1900 block of 23rd St. reported to police that after returning home this morning after being gone since December 16th he discovered his home had been burglarized. It appeared that the home may have been entered through an unsecured door. A Phillips DVD player and two credit cards were taken.
