A resident of the 2000 block of N Avenue arrived home on Dec. 26 and discovered the exterior doors standing open and that the inside of the house had been ransacked. Several items were missing from the home including a laptop computer, an iPhone, a Play Station game system, and a loaded pistol. An officer stopped and talked to a 16-year-old Anacortes boy walking in the vicinity and the stolen pistol was recovered from the boy’s pocket. Further investigation revealed a 14-year-old Anacortes boy and a 19-year-old Arlington man were also involved in the burglary. A search warrant was subsequently served at another home in the 2000 block of N Avenue where another piece of the stolen property was recovered and the 19-year-old was taken into custody. The 14-year-old was later located and arrested. The matter is under further investigation and all three teens face charges of burglary.

Thursday, Dec. 23
A 17-year-old Anacortes boy was booked into Juvenile Detention for domestic violence malicious mischief after he allegedly punched a hole in a bathroom door at a home in the 5800 block of Sands Way. The boy also reportedly slammed a bedroom door back with enough force to where the door handle punched a hole in the wall. The boy’s mother said that he became upset with her while discussing Christmas plans and that his anger culminated in him throwing a fit and damaging the house.
A 16-year-old boy was referred to Juvenile Court on domestic violence malicious mischief charges after he allegedly kicked and shattered the front door to a home in the 2400 block of Forest Park Lane. The boy had been arguing with his mother and had cursed at her when she refused to allow him to use the phone to call his friends. The boy fled the home after destroying the door when he realized his mother was calling the police.
A shopping bag containing approximately $150 in candles and Christmas ornaments and a woman’s purse containing credit cards and approximately $300 in cash was reported stolen from an unlocked car parked in a lot in the 900 block of 17th Street. The victim told police that she saw someone wearing a hoodie and jeans run from the area of her car as she exited the store, but she could provide no other descriptors.
A man driving his car on Oakes Avenue near the ferry terminal reported that someone threw a rock through his passenger side window. The rock left an approximate two inch diameter hole in the glass. The man did not see anyone in the area when the damage occurred. The driver was uninjured.
A woman reported her Toshiba brand laptop computer was stolen from her home in the 1400 block of 10th Street while she had been out of town. The victim suspected that one of her roommate’s friends who had been at a party at the home had taken the laptop. The matter is under further investigation.
Friday, Dec. 24
An officer stopped a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old Anacortes man for speeding on State Route 20 as the vehicle came into Anacortes. The driver smelled of alcohol and had a flushed face and watery bloodshot eyes. The man failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for drunk driving. The man later told the officer that he had drunk so much alcohol that the bartender had stopped serving him, taken his keys, and made him wait for two hours drinking coffee before he would let him leave. The man provided breath samples that were approximately 1 and a half times the legal limit. He was cited for DUI and released to a sober friend.
Monday, Dec. 27
An officer saw a vehicle leave a parking lot in the 400 block of O Avenue at a high rate of speed. The vehicle turned sharply and crossed into the oncoming lane of travel and then overcorrected and nearly struck the curb. The officer followed the vehicle onto 8th Street where it again made a sudden turn and struck the curb causing the car to bounce back. The officer approached the car and smelled the strong odor of intoxicants. When asked where she was going, the driver identified as a 22-year-old Anacortes woman, stared for a long period and said “here.” The woman had watery bloodshot eyes, slow reactions, and showed confusion when asked for her license and other documentation. The woman displayed very poor balance during field sobriety tests and was arrested for drunk driving. She provided breath samples that were almost three times the legal limit. The woman vomited several times at the police station before she was released to a sober relative.
Tuesday, Dec. 28
An officer stopped a car driven by a 19-year-old Mount Vernon man for speeding on 22nd Street near Commercial Avenue. The officer smelled the odor of burnt marijuana in side the car and inquired about the smell. The driver said that he did not have any marijuana in the car and said that he hadn’t smoked it in a week. But he did hand the officer a metallic pipe that contained burnt marijuana residue. The driver was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and released.
While officers were searching a home in the 1200 block of 35th Street for a wanted felon, they discovered a 31-year-old Anacortes woman and a 24-year-old Anacortes woman hiding inside the home. Both women had warrants for their arrest and were taken into custody. The Mount Vernon woman also had a marijuana smoking pipe on her that she said she had “forgotten” about because she was “high.” As the jail would not accept the women for booking, they were given new court dates and released.
Wednesday, Dec. 29
An Anacortes man reported that his 42-year-old former girlfriend had intentionally scratched the paint on his pickup causing approximately $700 in damage while he had been parked at a bar in the 7600 block of State Route 20. A bartender had witnessed the woman scratch the paint before the woman drove away from the scene. The victim said that the woman was mad because they had recently broken up. The officer was unable to locate the woman but she faces charges of domestic violence malicious mischief.
A 22-year-old Seattle woman went to the police station to speak with an officer about her involvement in a previously reported theft. The woman was then taken into custody on 3 outstanding warrants for suspended driving offenses in Anacortes and Burlington. She was transported to jail for booking.
A van parked in the 2000 block of Creekside Circle sustained approximately $500 in damage after being struck in the driver’s side quarter panel. The suspect vehicle in the hit-and-run is unknown.
A 37-year-old man was arrested at his home in the 6000 block of Sands Way on 2 outstanding warrants for previous driving offenses out of Mount Vernon Municipal Court. Due to jail restrictions, the man was released after being given a new court date.
Officers received information that a 37-year-old Anacortes man who had 5 warrants for his arrest, including a $50,000 felony warrant for failing a drug court appearance was hiding out in an apartment in the 800 block of 29th Street. Officers had also received information that the man would rather commit “suicide by cop” than go back to prison. The man was found inside of the apartment hiding in a closet and was taken into custody at taser point without incident. The man was booked into the county jail.
Thursday, Dec. 30
An officer saw a 28-year-old Anacortes man walk out of a bar in the 300 block of Commercial Avenue and kick the passenger side of a car that was parked curbside. The officer contacted the man who was obviously intoxicated and the man initially denied kicking and denting the car. The man then admitted to kicking the car but said that it belonged to a friend who “didn’t care.” The vehicle owner was located who said that he did “care” and that he wanted to press charges. The man was placed under arrest during which time he yelled profanities and attempted to pull away from officers. The man was taken to the police station where he continued to call the officers names and threatened to “kill” an officer. The man was placed into a holding cell where he allegedly used a ring to scratch profanities into the paint on the door. While being transported to the county jail, the man made multiple threats to kill Anacortes Police officers. He was booked into jail on charges of malicious mischief, disorderly conduct, and felony harassment for making the death threats.
Incidents over the New Year's weekend haven't been processed by police yet.
