Officers were called to the 300 block of Commercial Ave. to a report of a subject wielding a knife on Thursday, Dec. 9. When they arrived in the area they discovered a 37-year-old Edmonds man lying on the pavement near 4th and “O” Ave. and 2 men appearing to restrain him. Witnesses told officers that the man from Edmonds and a friend had been asked to leave an establishment after they appeared to have consumed too much alcohol. Outside of the establishment they exchanged words with at least 5 Anacortes men. At one point the man pulled out a knife and wielded it at 2 of the Anacortes men. One man called 911, as did a witness. The group continued following the 2 men on foot for several blocks and after the knife was discarded, a physical fight ensued. The Edmonds man was transported to the hospital for his injuries. Officers located an old fashioned switch blade knife in the area and believe it is the knife the man used. The incident is still under investigation. (Ed: see comment at the end)

Friday, Dec 3
A 29-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for assaulting the mother of his infant son. A 23-year-old woman reported that she had been at the tree lighting ceremony when she received a text from her baby’s father that he had left the baby in his stroller on her front porch in the 800 block of 29th St.. The woman hurried home and found the baby on the porch in his stroller. The baby’s father was waiting a short distance away and the couple began to argue. According to witnesses the man struck the woman knocking her into the stroller causing the stroller to tip over on its side. The man left with the infant. Officers located the man and the infant and arrested him for assault 4th degree domestic violence. The infant was returned to its mother. The case was sent to Child Protective Services for further review.
An 18-year-old man reported that his boss’s husband had threatened to assault him after he was fired by the woman. The 18-year-old man told officers that 2 men had come to his motel room in the 1100 block of 6th St. and threatened to beat him up if he did not stop sending harassing text messages to his ex-employer. Officers than spoke with the 40-year-old alleged suspect who confirmed that his wife had fired the young man and also said he had gone to the motel to retrieve some tools he had lent the younger man. He also showed officers texts messages his wife had received from the young man. The officer determined there was not enough evidence to confirm the allegation of the threat.
Saturday, Dec. 4
A 16-year-old Anacortes girl complained she was assaulted by her 29-year-old boyfriend in the 2800 block of Commercial Ave. The girl showed officers red marks on her arms where she alleged the man had grabbed her during an argument. Officers located the man, who appeared to be passed out from alcohol consumption in the back of truck near Curtis Wharf. He was admitted to the hospital for an alcohol consumption issue. Charges are pending.
A 17-year-old Anacortes boy reported that he left his $1,300 mountain bike unlocked in his front yard in the 1400 block of 25th St. overnight. The bike was gone this morning. The bike is described as a silver Trek Series Six bike with a white seat.
Three wrapped Christmas presents valued at $88 were taken from an unlocked car overnight in the 4100 block of Mitchell Dr.
A motorist called police to advise there was a small donkey grazing in the grass just north of 12th and “D” Ave.. Officers checked the area and found a small doe deer grazing in the area.
Sunday, Dec. 5
Seven young people ranging from ages 15 to 18 are facing misdemeanor charges following a large loud juvenile party in the 900 block of 35th St. Officers were familiar with the home from previous party calls. An officer on routine patrol in the alleyway observed juveniles drinking in the backyard and could smell an odor of burnt marijuana coming from the yard. When officers arrived to investigate, the people in the home denied them entrance. A search warrant was obtained. Alcohol, marijuana, and juveniles and young adults were located inside the residence. A narcotics detection dog was also called to the scene and located marijuana inside the residence.
An unlocked vehicle was prowled overnight in the 4200 block of Kingsway. Forty music CD’s, a Pioneer brand amplifier, Sony car stereo face plate, and a bottle of prescription medication were taken.
A 3 foot tall garden statue of Saint Francis was taken overnight from the 4800 block of Harbor View Pl.. The concrete statue weighed 30lbs and was valued at $100.
A small Sentry brand Safe was found on Reservation Rd. and Molly Ln. The bottom had been cut out of the safe and its contents were missing.
Monday, Dec. 6
A woman who had been visiting a friend in the 3600 block of West 2nd discovered her vehicle had been prowled at about 3AM as she prepared to leave. She had locked her car but had left her purse in the vehicle. Thieves broke out the passenger window and took the purse. The silver and grey Cash brand purse is valued at $300. The contents including a Canon digital camera, three silver rings, identification, and cash are valued at over $600.
A visitor to Anacortes left their pick up at Washington Park while off on an excursion, returned after several days to find about $60 worth of fuel siphoned from the gas tank and some tie downs that were in the truck bed missing.
Police are investigating the theft of a diamond ring from a residence in the 700 block of 37th St.. The woman’s diamond and yellow gold ring was taken from a resident’s jewelry box. Officers are questioning persons of interest in the case. The ring is valued at $1,200.
A 60-year-old Anacortes man was cited for violating an Anti-Harassment Order by phoning a business in the 900 block of 6th St. An employee of the business obtained the order against the man and he had called this morning violating the order.
A 1990 Chevrolet Blazer that had been reported missing from Mount Vernon many months ago was located abandoned in the 800 block of 28th St.
Wednesday, Dec. 8
A resident in the 400 block of 5th St. reported that their unlocked vehicle was entered overnight and a Motorola Nextel phone and $8.00 in cash was taken.
Thursday, Dec. 9
A resident in the 46000 block of Devonshire Dr. reported that someone had spray painted the word, “Meth” on the side of her vehicle. She had no suspects.
Friday, Dec. 10
A 22-year-old Anacortes woman is facing charges of malicious mischief domestic violence after she told an officer that she slashed the tires on her ex-boyfriend’s vehicle because he had broken her heart. The boyfriend estimates replacement costs for the tires at $1,300.
