On Friday, Nov. 19, neighbors complained that the man works outdoors with power tools and a sledge hammer at all hours of the night. He also uses excessive profane language in an open area where it causes offense to the public. He continued to use said language in the presence of the officer, and the officer cited him. Police are working with the city code enforcement officer to see if additional actions against the man are appropriate.
Here are some of the other cases Anacortes Police worked this week.
Friday, Nov. 12
Skagit Transit reported that there was an intoxicated man at the bus stop in the 900 block of 10th St. The 56-year-old Anacortes man reportedly was injured from a fall of his bicycle. He was transported to Island Hospital. On his release from the hospital at 8PM police arrested him on a Skagit County District Court warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance with a bail of $20,000.
Felony drug charges are pending against a 24-year-old Anacortes man who had close to 200 pounds of marijuana in his car. An officer pulled the man over for driving on a suspended license on Marches Point Rd. As soon as the man opened the vehicle window the officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana. The man was arrested for driving on a suspended license and was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and several thousands of dollars in cash. Believing there was more marijuana in the vehicle, the officer obtained a search warrant for the 2005 Lincoln Continental and discovered another 180 grams of marijuana packaged in 3gram bags. The case was referred to the Skagit County Interlocal Drug Task Force to refer it for prosecution and civil forfeitures of assets.
Saturday, Nov. 13
A 53-year-old woman was arrested for criminal trespass after she returned to a business in the 2000 block of Commercial Ave. after police had advised her to stay away half an hour before. The reportedly intoxicated woman was trying to contact an employee inside the business when officers were summoned. They told the woman she was not welcome at the business and would face arrest if she returned.
Police were summoned to a large underage party in the 900 block of 35th St. On their arrival a large gathering of juveniles began to leave the area. Five young men were arrested. Four were charged with underage drinking and a 16-year-old Oak Harbor boy was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Sunday, Nov. 14
An officer was flagged down by a woman who wanted to report a vehicle prowl that had occurred on Saturday, Nov. 13. The woman explained she left her car parked at 17th and N Ave. between 10:30AM and 12:30 PM on Saturday. She did not lock her car and left her purse in it. When she returned the purse was gone. There were two credit cards, a check book and five dollars cash in the purse.
Monday, Nov. 15
A resident in the 4900 block of Dundee Dr. reported that an older authentic “Gucci” brand watch from Italy was taken from their residence. The watch had been in the original box. It is a described as a gold bracelet style with an oval face. The watch is valued at $2,000.
A woman reported her car stolen sometime early this morning from the 900 block of 23rd St. She reported to officers that her boyfriend had dropped the car off to have work done. The keys were left in the business drop box but the car was gone when the mechanic got to work. The 1986 Honda Accord was recovered in Island County later in the afternoon. It was left parked at the scene of a residential burglary. A 2003 Jeep Cherokee, Eazy Loader boat trailer and a Zodiac inflatable boat were taken in the burglary.
A 15-year-old Anacortes girl was arrested and booked into Juvenile Detention after an officer discovered her in possession of some stolen cosmetics. The girl was a runaway and the officer had just taken her into custody when he discovered she had a lot of brand new make up on her person. She reportedly told the officer when she ran away she did not have any make up, and had taken the items from two businesses on Commercial Ave. because she needed them. As she was on probation for other issues the girl was booked into Juvenile Detention.
Tuesday, Nov. 16
Police received a complaint of a stolen bicycle sometime between Friday 11/5 and Monday 11/8. The silver 24-speed Specialized Hard Rock mountain bike had been left locked at the high school over the weekend. It was gone when the student went to retrieve it on Monday. The bike is valued at $300.
A business in the 2500 block of Commercial Ave. reported that a suspicious man had come into the business and offered to sell them a diesel generator and water pump. The man said his business was no longer using them. Police are trying to match the information with any recent thefts.
Wednesday, Nov. 17
Police are investigating a fraud complaint involving a check for $3,900 that was cashed by the wrong person. A 43-year-old Anacortes man with a very common name explained to police he was to receive a check in the amount of $3,900 at his mailing address which is a private postal business in Anacortes. A 67-year-old Anacortes man with the same very common name has a PO box in the same establishment. It is believed that the check was placed in the wrong mail box and the 67-year-old man cashed the check. The investigation is continuing.
A 1995 Ford Flatbed truck was reported stolen from the 1600 block of 16th St. overnight. The truck had been left unlocked with the keys inside of it. It was recovered on Nov. 18 in Island County.
A 59-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested for DUI after an officer pulled the vehicle she was driving in the 900 block of 13th St. over to warn her about a burnt out headlight. The woman showed signs of intoxication and reportedly told the officer she had just left a downtown establishment. She was given field sobriety tests and transported to the police station for a blood alcohol test.
Thursday, Nov. 18
Police responded to a domestic violence complaint in the 1700 block of 12th St. Reportedly a 36-year-old Anacortes man had knocked his 23-year-old girlfriend down several times. When she tried to call the police he took the battery out of her cell phone. She then retreated to a near by convenience store where she called a third party who called police. Officers arrested the man and he was booked into the Skagit County Jail.
