A 33-year-old Anacortes woman was jailed and charged with assault and referred for a second assault charge in two separate assaults at Island Hospital.

On Friday, Oct. 22, the woman assaulted a staff member in the emergency room.  On Friday, Oct. 29 officers were called back to the hospital as the same woman had returned to the ER and was causing problems. Officers responded and the woman was again belligerent and assaultive to officers and staff.  She was restrained and transported to the jail.

Here are some of the other cases Anacortes Police worked this week.

Saturday, Oct. 23

A 29-year-old woman was arrested for DUI after an officer observed the car she was driving turning on to 12th from “M” Ave without signaling.  The car then proceeded to weave in and out of the lane of travel.  The officer stopped the woman and observed she appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.  She refused to submit to a physical sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to the Police Department for a BAC. 

A 43-year-old Texas man was arrested for physical control after an officer spotted him behind the wheel of a car that was running, but not moving in a parking lot in the 1300 block of Commercial Ave.  The officer rousted the man.  After a brief conversation the officer reported he believed the man to be under the influence of alcohol.  The driver refused physical sobriety tests, was arrested and transported to the Police Station for a blood alcohol test. 

An employee of a restaurant in the 3200 block of Commercial Ave. reported to Police that she had just witnessed a man had just urinated behind their building. She described the man to the officer and the officer recognized the 60-year-old Anacortes man and was able to locate him riding his bicycle about 45 minutes later on “O” Ave.  He was cited and released for public indecency.

A resident in the 800 block of 27th St. reported that someone had taken a firearm from his home sometime since Friday.  Several visitors had been in the home since Friday and one possible suspect was contacted and denied knowledge of the theft.  The gun is a .40 cal. Semi-Auto High Pt. pistol valued at $186. 

A Dell Brand laptop valued at $200 was taken from an apartment in the 2000 block of “N” Ave. The owner reported the theft had occurred last week and that since that time she has been evicted and believes the prospective new tenants were responsible for the theft.  An officer questioned the possible suspect who denied any knowledge of the theft.

Sunday, Oct. 24

A 27-year-old New York man was arrested for DUI after an officer on routine patrol observed a red truck swerving over the fog line four times near the 2800 block of Oakes Ave.  The officer contacted the male driver and observed he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The man failed field sobriety tests, was arrested and taken to the Police Department for a blood alcohol test.

An officer on routine patrol in the 3800 block of Oakes Ave. spotted a 24-year-old Anacortes woman driving eastbound.  The officer was aware the woman had 7 outstanding misdemeanor warrants for her arrest and also had a suspended driver’s license.  The woman was arrested and taken to jail.

Monday, Oct. 25

A resident in the 2200 block of 27th reported that two X-box systems, an HP laptop computer, and an iPod were taken from their residence sometime over the weekend.  There were no signs of forced entry.  The items are valued at $900 total.

A man reported that his car had been struck by another vehicle while parked in the 300 block of Commercial Ave. around noon Monday.  The 2001 Jeep sustained damage to the tail gate and rear bumper.  The damage estimate was $310.

Tuesday, Oct. 26

A resident in the 3000 block of “B” Ave. reported Oakley brand sunglasses valued at $100 were taken from an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of their residence. 

A 16-year-old LaConner girl will be referred to juvenile court for assault 4th degree as the result of a fight she reportedly initiated in the 2000 block of “I” Ave. The victim and her mother reported to police that the 15-year-old was walking home from school when the older girl struck her several times. 

Wednesday, Oct. 27

A resident in the 900 block of 4th reported that a gas tank and trailer hitch were taken from an older truck parked in front of his residence sometime over the past several weeks.  The items were valued at $40.

Officers received a report that a business in the 1000 block of 7th St. had a shattered front window.  No evidence of malicious mischief was present and the building owner made arrangements to have the window secured for the night. 

A disabled resident reported that one of their hearing aids was lost earlier in the evening somewhere near the 1700 block of Commercial Ave.  The hearing aid is valued at $2,000.

Thursday, Oct. 28

The manager of a storage unit business in the 8000 block of March Point Rd. reported to police that they had found a bloody mattress in an abandoned storage unit.  The substance on the mattress was dry and appeared to have been there for sometime.  Detectives performed to chemical tests to determine if the substance was blood.  It was determined not to be blood.

A 33-year-old transient woman was booked into jail for assault 4th domestic violence and resisting arrest following a call of a domestic from the 1000 block of 17th.  Officers contacted the woman and her 60-year-old father on the sidewalk.  Witnesses had reported the two were yelling and the woman had struck the man several times.  The woman was arrested and resisted officer’s attempts to take her into custody.  She was transported to Island Hospital to be examined before going to jail.

A resident in the 1000 block of 27th reported that a wooden and metal picnic table was taken from their front porch overnight.  The table is valued at $150.

Friday, Oct. 29

A resident in the 4600 block of San Juan Ln. reported the theft of a deck of antique playing cards and the maple and walnut box they were stored in.  The cards are over 130 years old and the box is inscribed with the name Col. Elmer Otis.  The card set is valued at over $3,000.
