The Police Blotter, Oct. 24, 2010

A resident in the 800 block of 34th St. reported waking up around 3:30 am Friday, Oct. 22, to an intruder in his home.  The family dog’s barking roused the man from his bedroom.  He discovered an intruder in his living room.  The resident asked the intruder what he was doing.  The intruder replied, “I am a friend.”  The resident was not convinced about the man’s friendly intentions and punched him in the face.  The intruder fled out of the house and down “R” Ave.  Police searched the area but were unable to locate the man.  He is described as a white male, about 30 years old, 6 feet tall, 185 lbs., blondish shaggy hair.  He was wearing a tan Carhart style jacket and tan work pants.

Sunday, October 17

Police received a call from a convenience store at Sharpes Corner reporting a man was assaulting a woman in the parking lot.  The man left when the clerk called the police.  A 26-year-old Anacortes woman told officers that she and her husband were returning from an evening in Mount Vernon and were driving on SR 20 when they began to argue.  The man struck the woman in the face. He took her cell phone to prevent her from calling 911 and struck her a second time before she got out of the car at the stop light. The man followed her to the parking lot and tried to get her back in the car before the store clerk and some customers intervened.  The 26-year-old Anacortes man returned to the store and officer arrested him for assault.

A woman in the 1700 block of 28th St. reported that her adult son had taken the families Nintendo Play Station and several game cartridges.  Police are trying to locate the man who is a transient.

Monday, October 18

A white “Cheyanne” brand fiberglass storage container was taken overnight from an enclosed area in the 3100 block of “V” Pl.  The container is valued at $500.

A woman in the 3200 block of We. 3rd reported that a gray 2001 Honda coupe WA LIC #997YAG was taken from her driveway sometime during the day.  The woman explained that the legal owner is a friend who gave her the car as payment for some depts.

Tuesday, October 19

A man reported that his 2001 Nissan Pathfinder was damaged last night in a parking lot at the corner of 4th and “O” Ave.  The left rear quarter panel of the car sustained $1,000 in damage. It appears that this was a hit-and-run collision.

A vehicle traveling n the 1300 block of 11th St. stopped for a pedestrian who was crossing the street.  A second vehicle traveling behind the first vehicle was following too close and did not have time to stop before colliding with the first vehicle.  There were no injuries in the collision and the driver of the second car was cited for following too close. 

The skipper of a 36-foot gill netter moored at “Q” dock at the Cap Sante Boat Haven reported that sometime during the past 30 days a VHF marine radio and red tool box full of hand tools were taken.  The total value of both items is $300.

Police were summoned to the 2100 block of “D” Ave. for a reported fight between 2 adult sisters.  A 26-year-old woman was determined to be the primary aggressor and was arrested for assault 4th and booked into the Skagit County Jail. 

Wednesday, October 20

Police were summoned to an establishment in the 400 block of Commercial after to visitors from New York refused to pay their tab.  After the bar tab matter was settled, police cautioned the 42-year-old man and his wife not to drive because they appeared to be intoxicated.  Officers called a cab for the couple to take them back to their hotel. A short time later an officer spotted the man driving a vehicle at 4th and “Q” Ave.  The man was arrested for DUI.

An unlocked vehicle in the 600 block of Longview Ave. was prowled overnight. A portable GPS, cordless drill, and brown plastic tool box containing hand tools were taken. Total value of items is $245

A woman in the 2100 block of 33rd St. reported her blue 1991 Chevrolet truck was stolen overnight.  The vehicle was parked in the drive way at 9 pm on the 19th and was gone on the 20th.  The truck is valued at $3,500.

Thursday, October 21

An officer on routine patrol spotted a vehicle in the area of 22nd and “O” Ave that had made the turn without signaling.  The officer followed the vehicle and observed it was traveling at 15 mph in the 25 mph zone. The vehicle failed to signal a turn again on “M” Ave. and came to an abrupt stop about 3 feet from the curb in front of a residence in the 2000 block o “M” Ave.  The officer contacted the driver, a 47-year-old Anacortes man.  He failed field sobriety tests was arrested and taken to the station for a breath test. 

A 19-year-old man was contacted in the area of Commercial Ave. near 38th St. While talking with the young man the officer observed he was carrying a beer in his hand.  As the man did not look old enough to consume alcohol the officer asked the man’s age and he confirmed he was underage.  The man also had a small amount of marijuana on his person and had a women’s gold and diamond ring.  Officers did some checking and discovered the ring had been reported stolen in a burglary earlier this month at the man’s parent’s residence. The burglary was reported to the Sheriffs Office because the home is outside the city limits.   The man was arrested for MIP/MIC and possession of marijuana.  The ring was held as evidence and the information forwarded to the Sheriffs Office.

A 20-year-old Anacortes woman reported to Police that she had been the victim of an assault at the hands of her 21-year-old boyfriend on October 16th.  The woman told officers that the 2 argued at their home on March Point and the man struck the woman repeatedly on her arms and legs with a broom handle. She was struck so hard that officers observed she had bruises and open wounds.  The woman said she fled the residence the next morning and has not returned.  This is the second time the man has been arrested in a month for assaulting his girlfriend. He was arrested on September 30th for assault 4th domestic violence.  Because a No Contact Order was in place at the time of this assault the man will be charged with a felony. 

A vehicle traveling northbound in the 1400 block of Commercial Ave. was struck by a southbound vehicle making a left hand turn.   A 19-year-old Anacortes woman was cited for fail to yield the right of way. 

Friday, October 22

A 63-year-old man was cited for failure to yield the right of way after a vehicle he was driving eastbound on 11th collided with a northbound vehicle on Commercial Ave.  The driver of the vehicle on Commercial Ave. was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
