Oakes' two daughters, 14 and 17 years old, screamed and burst into tears when the verdict was read. The jury deliberated 3 days before reaching the verdict Friday.
Stover went missing a year ago and detectives early on suspected foul play and zeroed in on Oakes, but Stover's body was never found.
Oakes testified that he fired the fatal gunshot after Stover pointed a handgun at him and the two men wrestled over the gun. Oakes said Stover had stalked him before luring Oakes to Stover's Fidalgo Island home.
Prosecutors said Oakes faces 20 to 26 years in prison. No sentencing date has been set.
