Here are some of the other cases Anacortes Police worked this week.
Friday, September 24
A 43-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for DUI after an officer spotted the truck he was driving swerve into the oncoming lane of traffic westbound on Oakes Ave. The officer noted that the truck appeared to be speeding as well. When the truck turned onto Hartford with out signaling the officer stopped the truck. The man showed obvious signs of intoxication, failed physical sobriety tests, and was arrested and taken to the Police Department for a breath alcohol.
Officers were called to a disturbance at a residence in the 2300 block of Forest Park Lane. The 44-year-old resident had allowed a 19-year-old homeless woman to stay at the residence 3 months ago as a guest. However the woman will not leave after being asked to do so. Reportedly the 19-year-old’s behavior has deteriorated and this morning she yelling obscenities after being asked not to smoking the house. Officers thought they had the woman calmed down but they were called back to the home one hour later, after the woman had thrown a small coffee table at her hostess. The 19-year-old was arrested for assault 4th DVPA and taken to jail.
Officers responded to a domestic call in the 1000 block of 16th St. On arrival they contacted a 40-year-old man who said that he and his girlfriend had been arguing. The man fled to a detached garage to escape the argument. His 39-year-old girlfriend then broke a window out of the garage. Officers talked to the woman who said she broke the window to get his attention and continue the conversation. The woman was arrested for malicious mischief domestic violence.
An unlocked truck in the 1300 block of 20th St. was entered sometime past midnight. The owner told officers that someone had tried unsuccessfully to remove the truck’s stereo and had also rummaged through his belongings. Nothing appeared to have been taken. Then, early Friday morning officers discovered two more vehicles in the 1400 block of 19th St. appeared to be prowled. An unlocked minivan was entered but nothing was taken. A truck canopy that had been left unsecured was left open but nothing was missing from the back of the truck. A trailer hitch had been removed from the back of the truck. A third vehicle prowl was reported Monday morning. A woman told officers her vehicle was at 20th and “L” Ave. when it was entered and a backpack containing ID and a check book were taken.
Saturday, September 25
A 52-year-old Anacortes man was cited for malicious mischief after he and another man were asked to leave a restaurant in the 1500 block of Commercial. Both men were intoxicated and became belligerent with the staff. Patrons assisted in removing the men. Once outside one of the men ripped a mailbox off of a neighboring business as police were arriving. He was cited and taken home. His friend elected to walk home.
Sunday, September 26
A 15-year-old boy reported that he had left his bike locked at the Skateboard park overnight, only to discover this morning that it had been unlocked and damaged overnight. There was $150 worth of damage to the bike. Officers are checking with some possible suspects in the case.
A 24-year-old Anacortes man was arrested after an officer stopped him for speeding in the 800 block of 22nd St. The man was driving on a suspended license, displayed obvious signs of intoxication and failed physical sobriety tests. He was transported to the Police Department for a breath alcohol test. During the arrest, officers discovered a small amount of marijuana on the man’s person as well.
Officers responding to a vehicle prowl did not have to look to hard to find their suspect. While officers were responding to the call at 10th St. and M Ave., they observed a man lying in a green truck in the 1200 block of M Ave. The passenger window of the truck had been broken out and the man had cuts on his hand. He also had tools and other items taken from two other cars. He was arrested for 3 counts of vehicle prowl.
A resident in the 1000 block of 20th St. called Police to report a man was in her front yard screaming. When officers arrived they located a 36-year-old Anacortes man a short distance away. The man seemed delusional and was making statements about someone hurting him in the Great War. The man grabbed at an officer’s duty belt and had to be restrained. Officers determined the man was a risk to him self and the public and transported him to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. On Sept. 30, the man was contacted a second time by officers after his family reported more strange behavior. It was determined that while his behavior was strange he was not posing a risk at that time.
A woman in the 3900 block of Broadview reported that she left her house for a few minutes and returned to find it had been broken into. When officers arrived they discovered the television had been taken from the living room to the garage but it appeared the suspect(s) may have been scared off by the woman’s return. The phone in the residence had been unplugged and removed and the woman’s cell phone had been taken. Officers are following up on leads in the case.
Monday, September 27
A 19-year-old Ferndale man was arrested for minor DUI after an officer stopped the vehicle he was driving for unsafe lane travel and traveling 15mph under the posted speed limit. The young man was given field sobriety tests and was transported to the police department for a BAC test.
Tuesday, September 28
An officer on routine patrol spotted a burning outhouse near the ball fields at Island View School. The out house was valued at $1,200 and was a total loss.
A 20-year-old Anacortes woman is facing malicious mischief charges for writing graffiti on a new picnic table at Smiley’s Bottom. The woman and several friends were seen in the area shortly before the graffiti was discovered. Because the graffiti featured comments about the woman and her peers it was not difficult to conclude that she had authored the comments. When confronted by an officer the woman admitted to the damage.
A 47-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested for assault and disorderly conduct after officers responded to a call of a fight at a home in the 1200 block of 4th St. Witnesses told officers that the woman’s husband had been at a party at the home when the woman arrived and began to argue with him and other male guests. She allegedly slapped her husband several times and struck and tried to choke another man. The woman was reportedly disruptive to the investigation and was belligerent toward officers. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.
Wednesday, September 29
A 21-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for driving on a suspended license and negligent driving in the 1st degree after he drove his BMW into the ditch on SR 20 near Thompson Rd. The man told officers he had sped up to make the light at Thompson Rd. when he lost control of his car.
Officers were called to the 4600 block of Devonshire after a 21-year-old man assaulted his ex-girlfriend and reportedly stole a check that she had received in the mail. Officers contacted the man nearby. He admitted to throwing a pop bottle at the woman and taking a check from her mailbox. He was arrested for assault domestic violence and theft. Then, on Sept. 30, the same 21-year-old man was arrested for attempting to contact the victim of this case. He was seen knocking on the door of her residence and attempting to get her to answer the door. Making any attempts to contact the victim is a violation of a No Contact Order issued by the court after the earlier assault.
A 19-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for 8 misdemeanor warrants, possession of methamphetamine and residential burglary in the 1100 block of 24th. Officers had been looking for the man in connection with an August 6th burglary at a residence on Broadview Ave. When the man was taken into custody he was found to have methamphetamine in his possession.
A 26-year-old man was arrested when he departed the Washington State Ferry for several outstanding warrants including a Skagit County Superior Court warrant for Rape 2nd degree. The rape charge stemmed from a 2004 Mount Vernon Police investigation. The other two warrants were for misdemeanor charges.
A 15-year-old Anacortes boy has been referred to Juvenile Court for malicious mischief after he spray painted graffiti at the Skate Board Park. An Anacortes Park’s Dept. employee arrived shortly after the boy had spray painted a marijuana leaf on a wall. Another boy told the employee who had committed the damage. The two boys then began to fight and the police were called.
An Anacortes Library patron reported having her purse taken while she was using the public computers. She said she had placed the purse under the table. The purse was later discovered in a trash can in the library minus some cash and credit cards.
Thursday, September 30
Officers arrested a 21-year-old Anacortes man for a assaulting his 20-year-old girl friend after receiving a call from a concerned citizen who witnessed the man striking her. The witness explained that the couple was in a white car on “O” Ave when he saw the man strike the woman. Officers tracked down the vehicle at a house on March’s Point. They contacted the woman who had a red mark on the left side of her face consistent with being struck. She denied the man was there. Officers waited outside and the man eventually ran out the back and was caught. As there was a current No Contact Order in place at the time of the assault, the man was charged with a felony violation of a No Contact Order.
