The man appeared very nervous and agitated and the officer became suspicious. A brief investigation revealed the man was in possession of a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine and another type of controlled substance that was sent to the crime lab for identification.
Here are some of the other cases Anacortes Police worked this week.
Friday, September 10
A 48-year-old La Conner man was arrested for DUI after he crashed his motorcycle on SR 20 and Thompson Rd. The man had pushed his damaged motorcycle into a parking lot and was walking away when contacted by officers. He displayed obvious signs of intoxication and was arrested for DUI.
Saturday, September 11
A vehicle that was left unlocked in the 1200 block of 15th was reported prowled overnight. An 8 gigabyte iPod, debit card, various club cards, and identification were taken. Later, police were summoned to a home in the 1400 block of 14th St. where a homeowner reported that their estranged 17-year-old son had slashed their vehicle tires and broken into their home while they were away. He had left behind some of the items stolen in the vehicle prowl. Officers located the boy riding his bicycle in the 1000 block of 20th St. He had the stolen iPod in his possession. He was arrested and booked into juvenile detention. The next day, police received a report from a neighbor in the 1400 block of 13th St. who also had his tires slashed. It is believed this case might be related.
A 61-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for DUI after the 1991 Ford F250 truck he was driving struck a power pole on Stevenson Rd. at Similk Beach Golf Course. Witnesses said the vehicle was turning southbound on Stevenson Rd from SR 20 when it turned too hard and went in the ditch. It traveled through the ditch back up onto the driveway of the Golf Course and then collided with a power pole. The driver was not injured but showed obvious signs of intoxication when police and fire fighters arrived on scene.
Sunday, September 12
A woman reported that she had given her bank card and pin number to a 23-year-old man to do her grocery shopping with. The man did not return the card and $50 of charges have appeared on the card. Officers contacted the man who claimed to have given the card back. The card has since been cancelled.
A resident in the 1300 block of “J” Ave. reported that someone had taken the battery out of his pick-up truck over night. The truck was parked in the driveway of the residence.
A 50-year-old Eatonville man was arrested after a citizen reported seeing the man driving a pick-up erratically in the downtown area. An officer observed the truck southbound on Commercial at 18th St. He followed it for several blocks and observed it crossed the center line 3 times. The truck pulled into a parking lot off 26th St. The driver showed obvious signs of intoxication and was arrested for DUI.
Tuesday, September 14
A 39-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for violating the terms of a no contact order. The order from October 2009 prohibits the man from have any contact with a woman he was previously in a relationship with. She reported to officers that he had called her earlier in the morning.
A 1997 Toyota Camry was taken from the 1900 block of 32nd St between 0900 and 0930. The owner told police that the keys had been left in the vehicle as had a Nikon SLR digital camera valued at $1,900. The car was recovered in Marysville at 2200. A 17-year-old Marysville boy was asleep inside the car. He told officers he was not aware the car was stolen. The camera was not recovered.
Wednesday, September 15
A resident in the 4200 block of “Q” Ave. reported that his estranged girlfriend broke a window out of the house during an argument. He said that the woman came to his house intoxicated and he had to physically remove her from the house. He said she then began to bang on the window until she broke it. He claimed she had just left on foot. Officers checked the area and the woman’s home but were unable to locate her. The 29-year-old man told police that he was concerned when his mother got home she would kick him out of the house because of the damage to the window.
Thursday, September 16
A business in the 500 block of Commercial Ave. reported that a small outdoor table that had been placed in front of the store for patrons to use, was missing. The table is valued at $50.
Friday, September 17
Police were called to the 500 block of Commercial Ave. to check the welfare of a man who was sitting in front of a local establishment. Officers contacted the man and determined he was not having a medical issue but was extremely intoxicated. The officers offered the man a ride home as they were concerned for his safety. He was unable to tell officers where he lived. It was determined that the man was associated with NAS Whidbey and he was transported there and released to the Shore Patrol.
