The Police Blotter, August 21, 2010

The boys were released to their parents for appropriate discipline after a game with their Airsoft guns got out of hand on Friday (Aug. 13). A man reported the boys were discharging the guns in the roadway and had pointed them at passing cars and a woman and child on a bicycle. No damage occurred but the behavior was reckless and could be dangerous. The Airsoft guns, which can look like real weapons, were confiscated and released to a parent.

Saturday, August 14

A California man reported that his laptop was taken from inside his motel room.  He was staying on a ground floor room at the motel in the 1100 block of 6th St.. He deduced that someone must have entered through an open window and stolen the Apple G4 laptop. 

An officer patrolling the forest land around Whistle Lake cited 3 adults for consuming alcohol in the forest land. 

A 13-year-old boy was released to his mother after he was arrested for prowling 2 cars and stealing a tip jar from outside a business in the 2500 block of Commercial Ave.  The boy will be referred to the juvenile court to charges. 

Sunday, August 15

An intoxicated 23-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for public indecency after an officer observed him urinating in the 400 block of “O” Ave. 

Two cars parked in the 1200 block of 19th Street were damaged overnight.  Both cars were keyed and holes were poked in the vinyl roof of one of the vehicles.

Monday, August 16

An orange echo brush trimmer valued at $350 was stolen from a front porch in the 1100 block of 4th St. sometime over the week. 

Police want to talk with 2 young teenage boys in connection with a fire in the 11000 block of Fidalgo Bay Rd.  The fire department responded to a structure fire south of Fidalgo RV park and discovered an old metal and wood shed ablaze.  Evidence at the scene and witnesses identified 2 young teenage males who were riding dark BMX colored bikes as being at or near the shed when the fire started.  Police are asking anyone with information about the fire to call the tip line at 299-1985. 

Police responded to a second suspicious fire at the intersection of Reservation Rd. and SR 20.  A plastic porta-pottie at the business was destroyed by fire. 

Tuesday, August 17

A 66-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for Malicious Mischief DVPA after police responded to a 911 call from his residence in the 1000 block of 36th St.  His wife reported they had been arguing when she got up and went to her bedroom.  She said her husband kicked the bedroom door open, shattering a door panel and than emptied an ash tray out on her bed. 

A resident in the 900 block of 22nd St awoke to find 3 teenage males going through 2 cars parked in front of his residence.  When he opened the front door, all 3 ran off.  Nothing appeared missing from the vehicles. 

A woman reported a Macy’s credit card and $180 taken from her unlocked vehicle while it was parked at Whistle Lake yesterday.  The theft occurred between 4:40 and 5:30 PM.  Nothing else was taken in the theft. 

An Auburn man reported that while he was in Anacortes on August 12, his Toshiba laptop computer was stolen from his car.  The man said at about noon he was visiting a friend in the 1900 block of Commercial Ave.  He left his car windows rolled down and his doors unlocked.  When he returned after a 10 minute absence the laptop was missing from the back seat. 

A woman in the 600 block of 38th St. reported she had lost her black hills gold bracelet over sometime during the last week.  The bracelet had an expansion band and was valued at $900.

A 50-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for malicious mischief after he threw a piece of firewood through the rear windshield of his step daughter’s vehicle during an argument.  The incident occurred at Washington Park where the family was camping.  Reportedly the man was angry at his step daughter because he believed she wasn’t keeping an eye on her children. 

Wednesday, August 18

An officer became suspicious of a 16-year-old Anacortes boy when he spotted the boy walking down Commercial Ave. at 2 am with a backpack on.  He stopped to check on the boy’s welfare, and following a short conversation the boy revealed he was carrying a firearm for protection.  The youth was taken home and the black powder pistol the boy had carried was returned to his father. The youth said he had taken it from an uncle.

A dingy was taken from a west end marina over night and discovered at Tug Boat Park this morning.  Police believe this is related to other recent problems in the marina.

A convertible that was parked outside over the weekend in the 1500 block of 11th St. sustained $1,900 worth of damage when someone cut the rear vinyl window on the car.  There are no suspects in the case.

A dingy washed ashore in the 2000 block of Cove Pl. The owner was located and the dingy was returned.

A boat owner who keeps his dock at a west end marina reported that someone had entered his unsecured boat last night and appeared to have spent the night on the boat.  Nothing was missing but it was obvious the boat had been gone through.

A 24-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for violating a no contact order with his ex-girlfriend. The man reportedly called the woman’s cell phone after an incident between his ex-girlfriend and new girl friend.  The call was in violation of the court order.  The man has previous arrests for the same offense. 

Thursday, August 19

A small tree in Causland Park was destroyed overnight by a group of young men who had been drinking in the park.  Officers are still investigating the incident but it appears charges will be filed in the case. 

An alert resident in the area of 35th and “V” Ave called police to report that two teenagers were looking in car windows.  An officer contacted the two 16-year-old boys; neither could offer an explanation for their actions.  One boy had a small amount of marijuana on his person and was arrested for possession of marijuana and a probation violation. 

An 18-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for malicious mischief DVPA after he became angry with a parent and broke and damaged many items in his parent’s home in the 2700 block of “B” Ave.. The man lives with his parents at that location. 

Police are investigating a break-in at a mini storage on Marches Pt.  An initial call of a prowled motor home in the storage yard in the 8000 block of Stevenson Rd., quickly became a burglary investigation when it was discovered the fence was cut and other motor homes and storage units had been entered.  So far police are aware of some televisions that were stolen but are waiting for the victims to inventory what is missing.
