Police Blotter, July 17, 2010

Police are investigating some suspicious devices that were located in the 4000 block of West 6th near Anacopper Mine Rd.. The devices were found in the roadway and reportedly were responsible for deflating the tires of at least one vehicle.  Police are following up and examining evidence found at the scene.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Anacortes Police tip line at 299-1985.

Saturday, July 10

An 18-year-old Anacortes man faces charges of possession of cocaine and minor consuming alcohol after police contacted a group of juveniles loitering outside a convenience store in the 1100 block of 12th St.  The officer observed 2 of the young men appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.  They were both arrested and a small amount of cocaine was found in the possession of one of the men.

Thirty-five traffic cones were taken from a construction site at Oakes and Georgia overnight.  The total value of the cones is $628. 

A 35-year-old transient was cited for harassment and told not to return to a business in the 12,000 block of Christenson Rd.  The man threatened to shoot an employee and customer after he had been turned away from panhandling at the business.  When officers arrived they discovered the man was not armed but was intoxicated.  He was cited and given a ride to a relatives home.

A 56-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for an outstanding warrant for ailing to appear on a drug charge and for assaulting his wife.  The incident occurred in the 1100 block of 11th St.  The woman called police, who discovered the couple in the alley behind their home.  The woman said that the man pulled her hair during the argument.  Both were intoxicated.

Two Burlington men were cited for disorderly conduct after neighbors complained that 2 men were fighting in a yard in the 4000 block of Devonshire Dr.  When Officers arrived the men were separated but it appeared they had been drinking and had an argument that ended in a wrestling match. 

A 29-year-old woman who recently moved to Anacortes was arrested for assault 4th DVPA after patrons at a local establishment in the 200 block of “T”Ave reported an assault outside of the restaurant.  The woman allegedly pushed the man as they were arguing over their relationship.  She was booked into the Skagit County Jail.

Sunday, July 11

Police are looking for a 22-year-old Oak Harbor woman to question her about vandalism to a car parked outside of a local establishment in the 200 block of “T” Ave.  Police received a complaint that the woman was angry at a friend and poured a large amount of beer out in the passenger compartment of the friend’s car. 

Two men were arrested for stealing $500 worth of laundry detergent from a local grocery in the 1500 block of Commercial Ave.  The theft was not discovered or reported until after the men had left the store.  An off duty APD officer later spotted the men and alerted other officers who made the arrests. 

A 31-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on 5 outstanding warrants and malicious mischief DVPA after an incident at his home in the 4000 block of “O” Ave.  A woman called 911 to report that her husband was breaking into their home after she had locked him out after an argument.  The woman reported the man had been drinking and was behaving violently. She said she was hiding in a bedroom with her children. The man broke an exterior door, and was pounding on a locked interior door but left when the woman told him she had called the police.  Officers later tracked the man to a home in Whatcom County where he was arrested and later booked into the Skagit County Jail. 

Monday, July 12

A 50-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested for assaulting her boyfriend at the couple’s residence in the 1100 block of 11th St.  The man claimed that he returned home after drinking at a downtown establishment with a friend.  His girlfriend was upset as he had been sober for six months until tonight.  She struck him in the nose twice causing his nose to bleed. 

A family in the 2200 block of “H” Ave. had all three of their unlocked vehicles prowled overnight.  Two Garmin GPS and a Kenwood brand CD player were taken.  Total value of the items is $800.

A 26-year-old Anacortes man was hospitalized with a broken neck early Monday morning.  The man had been drinking with friends in the 1100 block of 11th St. when an argument ensued and he alleged he was assaulted.  Officers have been interviewing witnesses and examining evidence but have not been able to determine the exact cause of the injury as of yet.  The investigation is continuing. 

Tuesday, July 13

A 23-year-old Anacortes man reported he lost his Nintendo DS handheld video game player sometime over the last two weeks, somewhere in Anacortes.  The system is valued at $150.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a construction trailer that dumped waste into a dumpster at an Anacortes Housing Authority property in the 800 block of Commercial Ave on Tuesday afternoon.  An alert tenant in the New Wilson Hotel saw a truck with a construction trailer dumping waste into the dumpster behind the building.  The act was caught on surveillance video and the truck license WA#5326SL is clearly visible.  The truck was formerly registered to Christenson Construction in Cle Elum.  If anyone has information on the truck they are asked to call the Anacortes police Department Tip Line at 360 299-1985 or 911. 

A Sony Vaio laptop valued at $800 was taken from a car over night.  The car was parked in the 1100 block of 24th St. It is unknown how entry into the vehicle was made. 

A 15-year-old Anacortes boy will be charged with malicious mischief after he set off a firework inside the restroom of a fast food restaurant in the 2800 block of Commercial Ave.. No fire resulted but the restaurant had to close and clean the restroom for a short time.  It appeared there would be damage from burn marks as well.

Two Anacortes women ages 21 and 23 were charged with disorderly conduct after fighting in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1100 block of 24th St.  One woman allegedly commented that the other woman’s brother was a thief. The woman took exception to the comment and a verbal and later a physical altercation erupted.  Neither woman was injured. 

A 24-year-old East Sound man was arrested for DUI after an officer observed his vehicle driving slowly and then stopping completely in the land of travel in the 800 block of 8th Street.  The man had been asked to leave the Swinomish Casino earlier because of his intoxicated state.  He was arrested and taken to the Police Department for a BAC.
