Anacortes Police arrested a 16-year-old boy after he eluded them in an 80-mile-per-hour chase on D Ave. last week He just didn’t want to be stopped by police, who ended up chasing him 3 times over 2 days.

A 16-year-old boy formerly of Anacortes was arrested for 3 counts of eluding police and possession of a stolen vehicle after he drove a stolen Ford Mustang from Ephrata to Anacortes where he visited a west end home.  He was first spotted by an officer on D Ave at 11:45 am on Tuesday, July 6 speeding down “D” Ave. When the officer attempted to stop the car, the driver accelerated to over 80 mph, passed a truck on the right shoulder and than entered a residential area on 13 St., where the officer discontinued the pursuit because of the risk to the neighborhood.  At 10:28 that night another officer spotted the car on Oakes Ave. and again attempted to stop the car.  The car entered the residential area around Georgia Ave. and the officer broke off the pursuit in the interest of public safety. 

Then the next night, Wednesday, July 7 at 9:05 pm, an officer observed 2 suspicious people behind a business in the 2500 block of Q Ave.  When the officer approached, a male subject walked away.  The officer discovered the boy was the same boy who police were looking for.  The officer attempted to stop the Mustang as it sped away but was not able to catch up to it.  The officer was able to develop information about where the boy was staying and early Thursday morning the boy was arrested at a home on West 3rd St.  The Mustang was recovered and returned to its owner in Ephrata.

Friday, July 2

A 51-year-old man was arrested for negligent driving in the first degree after a vehicle he was driving southbound on Q Ave at 17th St. traveled up on the right hand curb and struck a sign post.  The driver continued and a witness followed him and alerted police.  The man pulled into a nearby market and got into the passenger seat of the car, while a woman passenger went in the store.  Officers contacted him and determined he had been the driver and that he had been consuming liquor but was not impaired to the level of a DUI.

Saturday, July 3

A 22-year-old man Poulsbo man was arrested for DUI after an officer on patrol in the downtown area, observed a red pick up truck “burning out” in the 900 block of 11th St. The officer observed the driver fail to stop at the stop sign at 11th and “N” Ave. before stopping the vehicle.  The driver admitted he had been drinking at a downtown establishment and that his driver’s license was suspended.  He was arrested and taken to the Police Department for a BAC.

A 24-year-old man was arrested for two outstanding Skagit County District Court warrants and possession of drug paraphernalia after a resident in the 700 block of “O” Ave reported a group of drunken men were walking down the street punching cars with their fists.  Officers contacted the men and discovered one man had warrants for his arrest.  He also had a marijuana smoking pipe in his pocket.  He received a citation for the pipe.

A 44-year-old Anacortes man was arrested 3 times in 2 days for violating a temporary protection order issued by Skagit County Superior Court.  The man and his wife had been involved in several previous police calls and it was suggested that the woman seek the court order as the couple was separating.  The order was serve on July 2 at 10 pm, after the man had a confrontation with his estranged wife at a residence in the 3200 block of “M” Ave.  On July 3 at 8:12 am the woman reported to officers that she felt her home on 7th St. had been entered overnight.  As officers were investigating they discovered that the man had left a phone message on the answering machine in the morning in violation of the order.  He was contacted and arrested for the violation.  Later in the day the woman received 2 collect phone calls from an inmate at the Skagit County Jail.  The inmate was calling at the request of the man. The man was cited for violating the order again because it prohibited 3rd party contact. After being released from the jail on July 4th the man brought another person over to his wife’s house to retrieve property. He also allegedly approached the woman while at the house.  This too was another violation of the order.  The man was re-arrested and taken back to the jail.  He has since been released from jail and has not violated the order any further. 

A 42-year-old Anacortes man faces charges of possession of methamphetamine in addition to driving while his license was suspended after an officer stopped the truck the man was driving on SR 20.  The officer observed the truck was traveling at under 25mph eastbound on SR 20 from Reservation Rd.  Several cars almost collided with the truck before the officer stopped it as it turned off onto Marches Point Rd.  The driver was arrested for a suspended license and had a small amount of methamphetamine on his person. 

The owner of a 1995 Toyota pick up truck reported over $700 worth of parts including a tailgate, turn signal lights and housings, door panels, floor moldings, and the license plate were stolen sometime since June 30th.  The truck was parked in a marine storage lot in the 700 block of 30th St. 

A resident in the 1900 block of 36th reported that sometime on the evening of July 1st someone entered his open garage and stole 3 cartons of Marlboro cigarettes valued at $180.

A 24-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for disorderly conduct after he harassed a couple in the 500 block of “I” Ave. near the Guemes Ferry.  Several witnesses said the man was acting strangely, using profane language in public and challenging people. The man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

A black office chair was taken out of the bed of a truck parked in the 300 block of Commercial Ave.  The truck owner said he was parked there from 2:45 to 3pm. 

Sunday, July 4

Anacortes Police had a few traffic collisions (no injuries). Also under 20 fireworks complaints were received. Police filled a 50 gallon trash container with confiscated fireworks and they will be destroyed. Only one citation was issued for illegal fireworks 

A home in the 2300 block of 12th street was discovered broken in after the owner had been away for several hours.  $800 worth of electronics equipment and power tools were taken.  There were no signs of forced entry.

A 29-year-old man was arrested for DUI after an officer stopped him for going 43 in a 30 mile an hour zone on 12th St.  The driver showed obvious signs of intoxication and was quite agitated.  He was arrested and transported to the Police Department for a BAC.

Monday, July 5

A 26-year-old Mount Vernon man was cited for possessing dangerous weapons and falsifying car insurance after routine traffic stop for a minor infraction at 12th and “B” Ave.  The driver handed the officer an insurance card that had the expiration date altered.  The officer confirmed with the insurance company that the car insurance was expired.   During the stop the officer observed a double-blade knife and brass knuckles in the center console of car. Both items are illegal to posses. 

A business in the 300 block of Commercial had some small windows broken out above the building entry.  There was no evidence as to how the windows were broken and no entry was gained into the building.  Damage was estimated at $60.

A car that was parked at the Little Cranberry Lake parking area was damaged after a group of young men challenged the owner and his friends to a fight.  Before the vehicle owner and his friends swam back across the lake the group of men were gone.  They scratched a racial slur into the side of the car.  The car owner claims he had never seen the men before.   

Tuesday, July 6

Police responded to several complaints of vandalism in the Skyline area overnight.  Yard lights, driveway stanchions, potted plants and other items were removed from yards. 

A green boys Mongoose brand mountain bike was taken overnight off a porch in the 800 block of 32nd st. The bike is valued at $150.00.

An iPod Nano valued at $150 was taken out of a backpack at the skate park at 1600 today. An Anacortes man discovered it missing when he returned home and checked his pack. 

A beige, 1998 Jeep Cherokee WA Lic.051UIN that was left unlocked with the keys in the ignition was taken from a grocery store parking lot in the 900 block of 11th St.  There are no suspects.

Wednesday, July 7

“Torty” a 10-year-old Sulcata Tortoise became the first of his species to be impounded in the city’s pound after residents in the Devonshire Drive area reported him in the roadway.  Torty’s owners called a short time later and explained that he had dug his way out of the back yard. 

A 50-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for DUI after a witness reported he was driving recklessly on SR 20 at the slough bridge.  According to the caller the van the man was driving was veering well over the folk line and almost struck the side of the bridge. An Anacortes Officer spotted the van on the SR 20 spur.  He also observed the van weaving over the fog line.  On contacting the driver, the officer observed obvious signs of intoxication and a partially consumed bottle of vodkas fell from the vehicle as the driver exited.  The driver refused all questions and the BAC.  He was arrested for DUI.
