A woman living in the 1800 block of 7th Street called 911 to report that her 28-year-old boyfriend was suicidal and that he possibly had a gun and was planning on going towards the Guemes Ferry dock to kill himself. The woman then hung up after saying the man was still inside of the house. Police then established a perimeter around the house and could see a man and woman walking around inside, but numerous calls into the house went unanswered. While police made plans to deal with a possible barricaded subject, the woman called 911 again to report that her boyfriend was now sleeping and she no longer needed the police. The woman then came outside and spoke with police, and they then removed 2 children from inside to a safer location. Police then found the man sleeping on a mattress in the downstairs part of the home. The man was intoxicated and denied making any threats to harm himself. No gun was found and the man said that he had never owned a gun. The woman then told police that it was possible she had not seen anything that looked like a gun. The man was taken into protective custody and taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Friday, April 23
The cover for the pole vault landing pad at the High School was cut and damaged by what appeared to be a knife. School officials surmised that someone had been trying to access the landing pad so they could jump on it. The damage was estimated at $1,500.
Saturday, April 24
A 29-year-old Seattle man was booked into jail on DUI charges after an officer stopped the car the man was driving for speeding on Commercial Avenue. The man had slurred speech, smelled of intoxicants, fumbled through his wallet for his license, and admitted he had a “couple” of drinks. The man became irritated and refused to perform field sobriety tests. The man was placed under arrest for drunk driving and was taken to the police station where he displayed several mood swings. After speaking with an attorney, he provided breath samples that were almost twice the legal limit.
A 67-year-old woman reported that her husband was intoxicated and would not stop bothering her at their home in the 1300 block of 7th Street. The woman said that she had seen her 66-year-old husband taking money from her purse, and the man countered that his wife had withdrawn money from his bank account without his permission. No crime was committed and the two agreed to sleep in separate rooms for the night.
A customer saw a man conceal a reciprocating saw under his coat and walk out of a hardware store in the 1100 block of Commercial Avenue without paying for the $115 item. Security camera video showed the man tearing the packaging off of the saw and the man also stealing a saw blade. The suspect, described as a black male with a bald head, left the parking lot in a green mini van with a dent in its driver’s side. His identity is unknown at this time.
Sunday, April 25
An employee reported that her parked car had been struck and damaged while she had been at work at an inn in the 900 block of 20th Street. The employee was suspicious of a guest at the inn who had been parked adjacent to her vehicle. Police are attempting to contact the guest who lives in Fall City.
A 15-year-old boy was booked into juvenile detention on domestic violence malicious mischief charges after he allegedly broke a telephone and threw other items around a home in the 1700 block of 28th Street. The boy was also charged with interfering with the reporting of domestic violence as the boy’s foster mother was trying to call 911 when he grabbed and broke the phone. The boy said that he had smashed the phone in order to get his step mother to listen to him.
A 29-year-old Anacortes man is suspected of assaulting his girlfriend at an apartment in the 800 block of 29th Street. The couple had reportedly gotten into an argument which led to the man calling the woman names and head butting her. When the woman attempted to call 911, the man allegedly ripped the phone from her hand and stomped on it. The woman tried to get to a neighbor’s home to call police, but the man grabbed her wrist and tried to pull her back into her apartment. The man allegedly told the woman to not call the police and he then left. The woman had visible redness and swelling to her forehead. Police have yet to locate the man.
Monday, April 26
Someone got into an unlocked tool box in the bed of a pickup in the 2400 block of 13th Street and stole a smaller toolbox that contained miscellaneous hand tools valued at approximately $150.
A 32-inch LCD Toshiba television was stolen from a motel room in the 3400 block of Commercial Avenue. The television had been present when the cleaning crew serviced the room after last guests checked out. The staff speculated that that a former guest had possibly kept a key. The television was valued at $650.
A 48-year-old Bellevue woman was found dead in a motel room in the 3000 block of Commercial Avenue. The woman left a lengthy note and was the victim of an apparent suicide. There was no evidence of foul play.
A purple and silver men’s Trek bicycle with black fenders valued at $500 was stolen from inside of a garage in the 2500 block of H Avenue. The bike also had a Garmin brand GPS unit attached to the handlebars. There are no suspects at this time.
A Vizio brand flat screen television valued at $700 was stolen from inside of a house in the 4100 block of Oakes Avenue. The victim had been out of town for a few days. There was no sign of forced entry into the home and the victim said that the home might have been left unsecured.
A woman reported that her 28-year-old husband had grabbed her by the hair on the front porch of their home in the 1300 block of H Avenue in an effort to prevent her from leaving with their car as he wanted to use the vehicle. The man then allegedly shoved the woman’s face against the car window which caused visible discoloration around her eye. The woman said that her husband had a history of physically abusing her. The husband was arrested later in the day and denied having assaulted his wife. He claimed that she was just seeking “revenge” for him taking the car. He was booked into jail on domestic violence assault charges.
An 18-year-old Everett man was cited for underage drinking after an officer contacted him in the 800 block of 29th Street regarding his participation in a reported fight with another man in the courtyard of an apartment complex. Neither man wanted to give details of the fight or pursue criminal charges, but the 18-year-old smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking a beer just prior to the officer’s arrival. He was released after receiving his citation.
Two workers at a shipyard in the 800 block of 4th Street reported that someone had stolen a $500 cell phone from one of the workers and a wallet containing over $300 in cash from the other worker. The items had been placed inside of a bag for their protection from sand blasting and then stored on the dry dock. Numerous workers at the site had access to the storage area and the suspect is unknown at this time.
An officer stopped a car driven by a 43-year-old Anacortes woman in the 1100 block of 8th Street for driving at night without using the vehicle’s headlights. The woman fumbled for her license, smelled strongly of alcohol, and had bloodshot eyes and a flushed face. The woman said that she had been drinking “a little.” She failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. During processing at the police station, the woman provided breath samples that were over two and a half times the legal limit. She was cited for DUI and released to a sober friend.
Tuesday, April 27
Approximately 40 music compact discs with an estimated value of $400 were stolen from a car parked in a medical facility parking lot in the 1200 block of 26th Street. A side wing window had been pried open to allow the unknown thief to reach inside and unlock the door.
Wednesday, April 28
A Craftsman push style lawnmower valued at $360 was stolen from an open carport at a home in the 1200 block of 29th Street. The victim had just purchased the mower a month ago.
A 36-year-old Anacortes man walked into the Municipal Court building to attempt to quash a warrant for a previous DUI arrest. The warrant was not quashable and the man was taken into custody and booked into jail.
A Yamaha 15 horsepower outboard motor valued at $1,500 was stolen off of a boat that was inside of a fenced boat yard in the 2900 block of V Avenue. The theft occurred sometime during the previous two weeks.
A large spool of green wire valued at $2,500 was stolen from a construction site in the 1600 block of R Avenue. There are no suspects at this time.
A homeowner in the 1100 block of 19th Street reported the theft of $100 in cash and a credit card from his home. The victim was suspicious of his 36-year-old grandson and a 39-year-old woman who had been living at his residence for several days. The victim checked with his bank and learned hat the credit card had been used to make a few small purchases at Anacortes businesses. The victim cancelled the credit card. The grandson and the woman were later contacted together and the man denied having stolen anything from his grandfather. The man was booked into jail as he had numerous warrants for his arrest. He was also booked for violating a court order that prohibited from having contact with the woman.
A wallet containing $400 in cash, a debit card, and social security information was stolen from an unlocked pickup parked in the 1100 block of 22nd Street.
Thursday, April 29
The owner of a boat moored at a marina in the 2400 block of T Avenue reported that someone had tried to steal a 9.9-horsepower outboard motor off his boat. The owner discovered that the motor and a marine battery had been tampered with and a bolt securing the motor was damaged. Another bolt had apparently seized that prevented the motor from being removed.
The Animal Control Officer is following up on a complaint that a mail delivery man had been bitten in the calf by a three legged black dog in the area of the 2200 block of H Avenue. The bite reportedly did not break the skin. A short time later, the same mail carrier was bit in the pant leg a second time by an unknown dog in the 1400 block of 19th Street. It was unknown where either dog lived.
An SUV driven by a 54-year-old Anacortes woman rear ended a car driven by a 56-year-old Anacortes man on the State Route 20 spur near Fidalgo Bay Road. The man’s car had stopped for traffic from an earlier collision and the woman hit him from behind. The woman admitted she had been following too closely and she was issued a ticket for causing the accident. No one was injured.
A resident of the 900 block of 34th Street reported her 16-year-old son was out of control and throwing things around the home. The boy told police that he was mad at his mom for lecturing him about getting kicked out of school. Nothing was broken and it was determined that no crime had occurred. The boy was then lectured by an officer about his behavior.
Friday, April 30
A man living in the 1400 block of 13th Street reported that he believed someone had opened his stepson’s bedroom window during the night and then entered and searched the room. The man said that it appeared 3 cell phones were missing from the bedroom, although he wasn’t sure. The man said that his stepson was in juvenile detention and that he was reporting the missing phones so the boy couldn’t accuse him of having stolen the phones when the boy was released.
