Here are other cases the Anacortes Police worked during the week.

Friday, March 26

A 21-year-old Anacortes man reported that an older woman driving an older white Chevrolet truck briefly collided with his vehicle as she was merging into the left hand lane on SR20 near R Ave.  The man said he honked at her to get her attention but she gave him an obscene hand gesture and drove off.  The man was able to recall a partial license plate of B7----B.  

Two Anacortes women reported receiving a harassing telephone call from the same bill collector.  An officer called the collection agency and spoke with the bill collector.  Washington State guidelines for bill collectors can be found on line at http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=19.16.250.

A 20” gold and black boys Mongoose brand Hoop D style bicycle was taken overnight from the 800 block of 29th St.  The bike is valued at $90.

A 24-year-old Oak Harbor woman reported her wallet missing after doing her banking in the 1700 block of Commercial Ave.  The woman was concerned about identification theft and was advised to cancel her bank and credit cards and contact the FBI website http://www.robtex.com/dns/www.ic3.gov.html to learn how to protect herself from identity theft. 

Saturday, March 27

A 31-year-old Oak Harbor man was arrested for DUI following a collision on eastbound SR 20 near the service roads.  The man lost control of the 1990 Toyota truck he was driving and struck the rock face on the west side of the roadway.  The man and his two dogs were walking away from the crash when an officer spotted them.  The man’s breath alcohol was over double the legal limit.

A 70-year-old man from Guemes Island was arrested for DUI after the car he was driving down D Ave crossed the center line and almost struck on coming traffic.  An officer was driving southbound on D Ave and saw the near collision.  He stopped the vehicle and administered field sobriety tests to the driver.  The driver was arrested for DUI.  His breath alcohol was over double the legal limit.

A 52-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for violation of a domestic violence protection order in the 800 block of Commercial.  An officer on patrol spotted the man’s vehicle in the area and was aware there was a court order prohibiting him from parking his vehicle in that block.  When the man returned to his vehicle he acknowledged he was in violation of the order.  

A 50-year-old Anacortes man was arrested after he allegedly punched his girlfriends 25-year-old brother during an argument.  The incident occurred in the 2800 block of Shannon Point Rd.  The man told police that his girl friends little brother had been acting disrespectfully.

A 62-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for possession of narcotics, DUI, and an outstanding warrant for hit and run driving following a call from 6000 block of Sands Way.   Officers were advised that there was an former tenant at the trailer park who was refusing to leave.  As officers were responding they located the man driving erratically on Oakes Ave.  After stopping the vehicle, the officer performed field sobriety tests and determined the man was impaired.  The man also had a loaded syringe of suspected heroin in his pocket.  He was arrested and was transported to Skagit County Jail.  At the time of arrest the man’s breath alcohol was over double the legal limit. 

Monday, March 29

A marina in the 3000 block of Oakes Ave reported a plasma cutter was stolen from a maintenance shed over the weekend.  There are no suspects.

A local fishermen lost 2 Scotty brand electric down riggers with lead ball weights Saturday night.  The man left his boat at a local marina Saturday night and when he returned on Sunday the downriggers were gone.  They are valued at $1,000.

A 21-year-old Anacortes man received word from the IRS that he would not receive a tax return because someone was claiming him as a dependent.  The man suspected fraudulent activity and wanted a police report number to give the IRS.

A 17-year-old Anacortes boy will be referred to Juvenile Court for Minor in possession/Consumption of Alcohol.  A concerned parent alerted police that their teenage son was possible at an underage drinking party in the 2500 block of J Ave.  When the officers arrived the party was over but the 17-year-old host was there and was intoxicated.  He was released to the custody of a family friend. 

A vehicle exiting a business parking lot at the SE corner of 17th and Commercial failed to yield the right of way to a westbound vehicle on 17th.  No one was injured in the collision. 

Tuesday, March 30

A handcrafted San Andreas mountain bike was discovered abandoned by a patrol officer.  The bicycle was brought to the police department pending the owner being located. 

A 74-year-old Anacortes woman was not seriously injured after the 1994 Mazda truck she was driving failed to negotiate a right hand turn from 33rd onto R Ave.  The truck hit the median and rolled over.  Fire and police arrived and extracted the woman from the truck.

Wednesday, March 31

A woman in the 1300 block of 11th St. reported her unlocked car had been prowled and some CDs were taken within the past few minutes.  A witness described seeing 2 suspicious teenage boys in the area.  The boys were contacted by police and denied any knowledge of the prowl. 

A fisherman leaving Anacortes after the Salmon derby lost the two left tires on his boat trailer while driving eastbound on SR 20 near the spur.  The tires jumped the median and struck two west bound vehicles causing minor damage to each. 

An Anacortes woman whose 1994 Nissan was stopped for pedestrian traffic at the intersection of 29th and Commercial was struck from behind by a 2002 Toyota Highlander that was southbound on Commercial.  No one was injured.

Thursday, April 1

A 19-year-old Vancouver Washington man was cited for Minor DUI and his three passengers were cited for Minor in Possession/Consumption of Alcohol after the vehicle they were traveling in was stopped for speeding in the 2600 block of Oakes Ave.  The driver and passengers were all camped at Washington Park for Spring Break.  They were all cited and released.

Friday, April 2

Nightshift officers were quick to respond to the explosion at the Tesoro Refinery early Friday morning.  Officers closed parts of Marches Point Rd. for emergency response vehicles only and assisted in setting a landing zone for the multiple Med Flight Helicopters that responded to transport the injured.  Both refineries are outside the city limits making the Skagit County Sheriffs Office responsible along with several other State and Federal agencies for the on-site investigation.
