The owners were on a hike. They said that the vehicle had been locked, but there was no sign of forced entry. 

Here are other cases Anacortes Police worked last week.

Friday, March 5

A resident of the 1300 block of 27th Street reported that someone had stolen a jewelry case from her home that contained assorted rings, necklaces, and earrings with an estimated value of approximately $4,000.  The victim provided the name of someone she was suspicious of as a possible suspect. 

A men’s 21-speed mountain bike was stolen from where he it was parked outside of the library during evening hours.  The bike was valued at $200 and had not been secured at the time of the theft. 

A 20-year-old man was arrested for violating a domestic violence protection order after he argued with his former girlfriend at her apartment in the 1100 block of 24th Street.  The court order prohibited the man from contacting the woman or being at her residence.  While being taken into custody, the man pulled away from the officer and ran a couple of blocks with the officer chasing him on foot.  When the man turned suddenly towards the officer, he was ordered to the ground at taser point.  He was then handcuffed and transported to jail for the court order violation and resisting arrest. 

A 23-year-old woman was transported by paramedics to the emergency room for evaluation after she possibly took an overdose of prescription medication at a home in the 1700 block of 25th H Court.  The woman had argued with her boyfriend at the home and then locked herself inside of a bathroom.  The bathroom door was opened but the woman was unable to respond to questions by paramedics and her boyfriend said that he believed she had ingested an unknown number of pills. 

Saturday, March 6

A car parked at a residence in the 1400 block of 32nd Street had anchovies and Twinkies smeared over its exterior.  The same car had been smeared with ski wax while parked at the high school two weeks earlier.  The vandal is unknown at this time.   

A car parked at a home in the 1600 block of 13th Street was prowled during the night.  The car had been left unlocked and the interior had been rifled through.  $100 in cash was reported missing from an envelope inside of the vehicle. 

A 23-year-old Anacortes man was suspected of domestic violence malicious mischief after he allegedly argued with the mother of his child at a home in the 800 block of 29th Street and damaged a wall by throwing a chair against it.  The woman told police that the man had refused to let her go to sleep and had allegedly poured water on her to keep her awake.  The man left prior to police arrival and police are seeking to speak with him about his version of events. 

The owner of a motorhome parked in the 4500 block of Blakely Drive reported that someone had tried to pry open the rear doors of the vehicle.  No entry was believed to have been made and nothing was missing from the vehicle.

An 21-year-old Anacortes woman reported that she had been attacked by an 18-year-old Anacortes woman while visiting at a home in the 2100 block of 33rd Street.  The victim said that the other woman had struck her several times in the head and face both inside and outside of the house.  The victim reported her head and nose were sore.  The victim said that she had no idea why the other woman had a problem with her.  Police plan to speak with the other woman and the matter is under further investigation. 

Sunday, March 7

A 29-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for drunk driving after an officer saw him pull his vehicle into a parking spot in the 900 block of 21st Street and then stagger out of the SUV.  The man smelled strongly of intoxicants, had slurred speech, and bloodshot eyes.  The man told the officer he had “4 or 5 tall beers” and that he knew he had “too much to drive.”  He failed field sobriety tests was taken to the police station where he provided breath samples that were slightly over twice the legal limit.  He was cited for DUI and released to a sober friend.      

A 19-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for violating a no-contact order after an officer saw him talking to a woman outside of a motel room in the 2000 block of Commercial Avenue.  A domestic violence protection order prohibited the man from having contact with the woman.  The man also had two misdemeanor warrants for his arrest.  A 39-year-old Anacortes woman and a 36-year-old Anacortes man were also arrested after they were found inside of the motel room.  The woman had a warrant for her arrest and the second man had four warrants for his arrest.  A domestic violence protection order also prohibited the second man from having contact with the second woman and he was also arrested on the new charge of violating the order.  Both men and the second woman were booked into the Skagit County Jail. 

A 15-year-old boy was booked into juvenile detention after he allegedly punched a hole in the sheetrock of a bedroom at a home in the 1700 block of 28th Street.  The boy had also been reported to be out of control and throwing things around the home.  The boy admitted to damaging the wall after arguing with his foster mother. 

A woman’s bicycle was stolen off the back porch of a home in the 1100 block of 18th Street.  The woman had heard a noise on the porch and when she checked she discovered the bike missing.  The following day the bike was found in the alley in the 1400 block of 18th Street.  The bike was returned to the owner.

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a home in the 2100 block of 34th Street.  It was learned that a 26-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman who were involved in a dating relationship had been arguing.  The woman had allegedly pushed the man several times and until he retaliated by pushing her to the floor.  The man had also allegedly torn the curtains and curtain rod off a living room wall.  The woman allegedly hung the phone up when the man was trying to call 911.  The man was placed under arrest for domestic violence assault and malicious mischief and the woman was arrested for domestic violence assault and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.  Both people were booked into jail.   

An 18-year-old Anacortes man was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia in the 3000 block of L Avenue after neighbors reported him wandering around suspiciously acting like he “was on drugs.”  The man had glassy eyes and smelled of burnt marijuana.  He consented to a search of his backpack which revealed a glass bong and two marijuana smoking pipes.  The man was released after receiving his citation. 

Monday, March 8

Approximately 2 hours later, the same 18-year-old man mentioned in the previous case was seen walking near H Avenue and Rice Court wearing dark clothing and carrying a flashlight that was turned off. The man was accompanied by a 17-year-old Anacortes boy.  The man had a large bulge in a pocket that was found to be a can of beer.  The man was placed under arrest for underage drinking and a search of his backpack revealed a bottle of prescription medication belonging to a woman living in the 1300 block of 33rd Street.  The man told the officer that he and a friend had been out prowling cars.  The pill owner was contacted and she confirmed her car had been prowled.  The boy was also arrested for underage drinking after a can of beer was found in his pocket.  The man’s backpack also contained 2 cameras, a stereo faceplate, sunglasses, loose change, and other assorted items.  The boy also had a .45 caliber pistol magazine with live ammunition and a variety of other items.  The man was booked into jail for vehicle prowling and the boy was booked into juvenile detention.     

The faceplate to a car stereo was stolen from an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the 1400 block of 31st Street and is related to the above vehicle prowlers. 

Two hubcaps valued at $100 each were stolen off of a car parked at the employee parking area at the Washington State Ferry terminal. 

It was believed that someone tried to make entry into a home in the 1400 block of 29th Street after window screens were found removed from some windows.  The want to be burglars were unsuccessful in trying to slide open the windows and no entry was gained into the home. 

Tuesday, March 9

Two more window screens were damaged when they were cut in an apparent effort to gain entry into a home in the 1300 block of 33rd Street.  Damage to the screens was estimated at $40. 

An officer contacted 2 men walking in the 1000 block of 22nd Street.  One of the men was carrying 2 approximate 4-foot long poles with double edged knife blades taped to one end of each pole.  The 20-year-old Anacortes man who was carrying the weapons was arrested for possession of dangerous weapons.  A search of the man revealed a small amount of marijuana in his jacket pocket.  The man told the officer he used the weapons to practice martial arts.  The man was cited for possession of dangerous weapons and possession of marijuana and released. 

Wednesday, March 10

A screen to a basement window on a home in the 3300 block of K Avenue was discovered cut and removed in an apparent attempt to gain entry into the home.  It again appeared that someone had tried to slide the window open, but had been unsuccessful.  

A license plate was stolen off of a pickup that was parked in the 6000 block of Parkside Drive. 

Thursday, March 11

A Honda 9.9-horsepower motor was stolen from a boat that was being stored at a commercial storage facility in the 8800 block of Stevenson Road.  The bolts holding the motor to the boat and the fuel line had been cut.  The motor was valued at over $3,000.  There are no suspects. 

The renter of an apartment in the 500 block of T Avenue reported that someone had stolen Playstation, Nintendo, and Microsoft game systems and approximately 35 assorted game discs from his home.  The total loss was estimated at about $1,800.  The victim said that he was suspicious of a 20-year-old male transient he had befriended.  The victim’s grandparents had stopped by to visit when the victim was away, but found the transient inside of the victim’s home.  The incident is under further investigation. 

The renter of a storage unit in the 8300 block of Summit Park Road reported that someone had cut the lock off of her unit and stolen a Bosch cordless tool set valued at $500.  The renter was going to check further through the stored property to determine if anything else had been stolen. 

An 18-year-old man was arrested at his home in the 3600 block of Michelle Lane on an outstanding warrant for a previous charge of possession of a controlled substance.  He was booked into the county jail. 

Friday, March 12

An officer stopped a car driven by a 47-year-old Anacortes woman in the 2200 block of 30th Street after her vehicle crossed the centerline in to the oncoming officer’s lane of travel on 32nd Street before abruptly correcting back into her lane.  The car was also traveling over the posted speed limit and failed to use its turn signal when turning onto 30th Street.  The driver was unsteady on her feet, had watery bloodshot eyes, and smelled of intoxicants.  Her speech was also slurred and she failed field sobriety tests after telling the officer she had a “glass of wine.”  She was arrested for drunk driving and processed at the police station where she provided breath samples that were over one and a half times the legal limit.  She was issued a citation for DUI and released to a sober adult. 

A 39-year-old Anacortes male transient is suspected of kicking in the door to his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in the 6100 block of Parkside Drive and then grabbing her and hitting her in the face.  The 42-year-old victim said the suspect also pulled her hair causing her to fall down and hit her face on a wooden post.  The man then fled on foot.  The woman suffered bruising and swelling to her face.  A domestic violence protection order was in effect that prohibited the man from contacting the victim or going to her residence.  The man faces charges of felony violation of a no-contact order and domestic violence burglary when located.  Police are actively searching for the man.
