One vehicle had $120 taken from a wallet that had been left inside, but credit cards and other items of value were not taken. Several vehicles had small amounts of loose change stolen and several other vehicles had their contents rifled through, but with nothing apparently missing. A digital camera valued at $300 was stolen from a vehicle on Highland Drive, an iPod valued at $100 was stolen from a vehicle in the 5500 block of Doon Way, and a digital camera valued at $400 was stolen from a minivan in the 5300 block of Doon Way. There are no suspects at this time.

Friday, February 19
A 33-year-old Anacortes man walked into the police station and turned himself in on 3 outstanding warrants for his arrest. The warrants were for previous possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while suspended charges. As the jail would not accept him for booking, he was given new court dates and released.
A homeowner in the 2700 block of Oakes Avenue reported the theft of over $3,500 in various Chevrolet Corvette car parts from his residence. The victim was suspicious of a family member and confronted the man who admitted to taking the parts to Puyallup and selling them. The victim said that he then informed his relative that he was no longer welcome on the property. The matter is under further investigation.
The owner of a truck parked in the 1800 block of O Avenue discovered that the driver’s mirror had been broken off with broken parts scattered on the street. The suspect is unknown and the damage was estimated at $350.
A car parked on the street in front of a home in the 1300 block of 19th Street was vandalized by having two of its tires punctured.
Saturday, February 20
A 35-year-old man was arrested at his home in the 9400 block of Padilla Heights Road on a $150,000 bail Superior Court warrant for two counts of 1st Degree Child Molestation. He was booked into the county jail.
An 18-year-old man was arrested at his home in the 500 block of 34th Street on an outstanding $5,000 bail felony warrant for failing to appear in court on a burglary charge. He was also booked into the county jail.
Officers responded to a home in the 3700 block of W. 6th Street after it was reported that an 18-year-old man was “out of control” and breaking things. The man’s family said that he might also be under the influence of illegal drugs. While speaking with officers, the man had slurred speech and made several nonsensical comments. The man said that he had been smoking marijuana and that it had been keeping him “calm.” Family members said that the man had kicked a door inside of the house causing damage to the jamb and frame, and that he had thrown several items around the house. The man was placed under arrest for domestic violence malicious mischief and booked into jail.
Sunday, February 21
An officer stopped a car in the 1000 block of Commercial Avenue for speeding and identified the driver as a 30-year-old Texas man. The man smelled strongly of intoxicants and said he had been unaware of how fast he had been traveling. The man also had bloodshot watery eyes and admitted he had “3 beers.” The man failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for drunk driving. The man was taken to the police station for processing where he refused to take a breath test. The man was charged with DUI and booked into jail.
A woman reported discovering an unknown man sleeping in her pickup parked at her home in the 12300 block of S. Fidalgo Bay Road and that he was refusing to leave. The man did flee on foot before police arrived and they were unsuccessful in locating him. The woman checked her vehicle, but determined that nothing had been taken or damaged.
A 13-year-old Olga boy who had been reported “missing” after he failed to show up on the ferry on Orcas Island at his scheduled time was found at the State Ferry terminal in Anacortes a short time later. The boy had lost his ticket and had stayed in the terminal building. The boy was put on another ferry to Orcas to be met by his grandmother.
Officers responded to the report of a hit-and-run accident in which a Suburban had struck a parked car in the 2700 block of Q Avenue. A witness saw the Suburban drive around the block and park behind a building and the male driver run into a nearby apartment. Officers went to the apartment where a woman said that the man was not there. Officers entered the apartment and found the 31-year-old man/driver hiding under a bed. The man was placed under arrest for hit-and-run. The man also smelled strongly of intoxicants, had watery eyes, and kept repeating himself. The man was taken to the police station where he was uncooperative and initially would not identify himself. He eventually provided his name and was processed for drunk driving. He provided breath samples that were significantly over twice the legal limit. He was cited for DUI and hit-and-run and released to his wife.
Monday, February 22
A 28-year-old man was arrested for domestic violence assault after he allegedly shoved his girlfriend several times and attempted to keep her from exiting a bedroom at a home in the 4000 block of W. 4th Street. The man had allegedly been insulting the woman which resulted in an argument. The man claimed that the woman had thrown a can of beer at him striking him in the head resulting in a small cut to his forehead. The man was determined to be the primary aggressor and he was booked into jail on the assault charge.
Officers responded to the report that a vehicle had struck a power pole in the 8300 block of S. Marches Point Road. It was reported that the driver appeared to be uninjured and had walked away from the accident scene leaving the vehicle partially blocking the roadway. Police were informed a short time later that a man matching the driver’s description was hiding in a car at a nearby car dealership and had told an employee that he “needed a ride before the police arrive.” Police then located the suspected driver at the dealership when friends arrived to pick him up. He was identified as a 50-year-old Anacortes man who smelled of intoxicants and admitted he had a couple of cocktails. The man consented to an eye test but refused to perform additional field sobriety tests. He was placed under arrest for drunk driving and hit-and-run. He was taken to the police station where he took a breath test and provided samples over the legal limit. He was cited for DUI and hit-and-run and released to sober friends.
A 16-year-old boy was booked into juvenile detention on charges of domestic violence assault, malicious mischief, and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence after he allegedly pushed his step-father and grabbed a phone from him to prevent the step-dad from calling 911. The boy had also allegedly thrown several items around the home located in the 1400 block of 13th Street. The boy told an officer that he was upset because he believed his step-dad had taken his iPod.
Officers received information that a 24-year-old man had walked away from a motel in the 1100 block of 6th Street after making statements that he was going to kill himself by jumping off of a cliff. The man was allegedly despondent over relationship problems with a girlfriend. The man returned to the motel and told officers that he was having thoughts of suicide. The man was very cooperative and agreed to go the hospital for evaluation.
Tuesday, February 23
A 42-year-old Oak Harbor man who was an employee at a business in the 1500 block of Commercial Avenue was charged with theft after management caught the man stealing from the business. The man admitted to stealing a can of chewing tobacco on 20 different occasions when he was leaving the store at the end of his work day. The total loss was estimated at $150.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested in the 1700 block of Q Avenue on an outstanding warrant for previous charges of vehicle prowling and possession of marijuana. The boy struggled with officers briefly before being taken into custody and booked into juvenile detention.
Wednesday, February 24
Two vehicles parked at the Whistle Lake access parking lot during afternoon hours had door windows smashed out and the interiors rifled through. A Mount Vernon resident found nothing missing from her car, but the other vehicle belonging to an Anacortes man was missing an older iPod Nano. It is not believed that these two prowls were related to the Skyline area prowls.
A mountain bike valued at $85 was stolen from where it was parked outside of the public library. The victim said that he was sure he had locked the bike before entering the library.
White spray painted graffiti of an obscene nature was discovered on a rock at the upper Cap Sante viewpoint. The suspect is unknown at this time.
Thursday, February 25
Four tires with low profile six spoke chrome wheels were stolen off of an SUV parked at a car dealership in the 12400 block of Reservation Road. The tires and wheels had a total value of $3,500. The vehicle was discovered left sitting on cement blocks. A car dealership in Burlington had a similar theft from their lot with the vehicle left on concrete blocks. The incidents are under further investigation.
A 14” inch tall brass jug was stolen from off a table outside of a home in the 1500 block of Skyline Way during the afternoon hours. The value of the jug was unknown.
The owner of a local computer business became suspicious of a man and woman who had requested his help in “cracking the password” on a computer they brought into the business. The business owner was able to access information on the computer that led him to contact a man in King County who confirmed that he owned the computer and that it had been recently stolen during a burglary. An officer contacted the woman when she returned to the business to retrieve the computer and she claimed that the computer belonged to her “boyfriend’s cousin’s boyfriend.” She claimed she did not know the computer had been stolen. The 19-year-old Anacortes woman was placed under arrest for being in possession of stolen property and she declined to answer any questions. The identity of the man who accompanied her is unknown at this time. The woman was booked into jail.
Friday, February 26
A 1990 Ford F-450 flatbed truck was reported stolen from an auto sales lot in the 7600 block of State Route 20. An employee discovered the theft and he said he was sure the truck had been locked with the keys secured in a lock box. There was no sign of broken glass at the scene to indicate the truck had been forcibly entered. There is no suspect information at this time.
A 19-year-old man was arrested at a home in the 2100 block of 19th Street on an outstanding felony warrant for a previous charge of motor vehicle theft. A 16-year-old Anacortes boy who was staying at the home was also arrested as he had a warrant for failing to appear at a court disposition hearing in Island County. The older man was booked into the Skagit County Jail and the boy was taken to the police station for questioning on a different case.
