A 28-year-old Guemes Island man was cited for indecent exposure on Sunday, Feb. 14, after an officer saw him pull his pants down and expose his bare buttocks to another pedestrian in the 400 block of Commercial Ave.
Several other pedestrians were also in the area. The man then tried to run from the officer before being caught a short distance away. The man apologized about his behavior and said that his “drinking had made him stupid.” He was issued a citation and released.

Friday, February 12
A car parked at a business in the 3300 block of Commercial Avenue had its driver’s door window broken out. Nothing inside of the vehicle appeared to have been tampered with. The damage was estimated at $300.
Vandalism was also reported to a pickup that was parked in the 3000 block of Commercial Avenue. Someone got into the unlocked vehicle, popped the hood, and then wrapped a bungee cord around the engine wiring and tied one end off to the drive line so that when the victim drove away the wiring was ripped loose. Repair costs were estimated at $1,000.
A gold, emerald, and diamond ring valued at $5,000 was reported stolen from a home in the 1100 block of 11th Street. The theft occurred sometime during the previous three to four weeks.
A car parked at a home in the 1300 block of D Avenue had its driver’s side window broken out and a pack of cigarettes stolen from inside. The suspect is unknown at this time.
Saturday, February 13
A 57-year-old Mount Vernon man was arrested for drunk driving after an officer watched his van repeatedly traveling out of its lane of travel on State Route 20. The vehicle had also been speeding and the driver told the officer that he “kept bouncing over the turtles.” The man displayed several signs of intoxication and told the officer he had “a couple of beers.” The man failed field sobriety tests and subsequently provided breath samples that were almost twice the legal limit. He also admitted he had “four beers.” He was cited for DUI and released to his wife.
Officers responded to the report of a hit-and-run on Whistle Lake Road in which a vehicle struck an 82-year-old pedestrian who was walking with two caregivers. The vehicle stopped momentarily and then fled the scene. The pedestrian suffered a mild injury to his knee. Witnesses provided a license number for the fleeing vehicle and an officer stopped it near 37th Street and Commercial Avenue. The driver was identified as a 26-year-old Oak Harbor man who had an overwhelming odor of intoxicants on him and appeared to have difficulty staying awake. The man had very slurred speech and admitted he had “a couple.” The man failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for drunk driving and hit and run. He was taken to the police station where he provided breath samples that were approximately two and a half times the legal limit. The driver was booked into jail on DUI and felony hit-and-run charges.
Sunday, February 14
A 52-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for allegedly violating a protection order that prohibited from being near his ex-wife’s business in the 800 block of Commercial Avenue. The woman said that her ex had parked his vehicle in front of her business and that she felt he was harassing her. A short time later, an officer saw the man peering into the windows of his ex-wife’s business. The man was told he was under arrest for violating the court order and he became argumentative with the officer. The man was booked into jail.
A 16-year-old Anacortes boy was contacted at Storvik Park while police were investigating the complaint of eggs being thrown at a car. The boy had an outstanding warrant for his arrest from a previous possession of marijuana charge. The boy was booked into juvenile detention on the warrant.
An officer observed a vehicle spinning its tires and doing “donuts” in a parking lot in the 2900 block of Commercial Avenue. The vehicle exited the parking lot and continued to spin and smoke its tires. An officer stopped the vehicle in the 1000 block of 29th Street and identified the driver as a 29-year-old Anacortes man. The man was unsteady on his feet as he exited his car and he was placed under arrest for reckless driving. The man also had a suspended driver’s license and 3 warrants for his arrest from previous drunk driving charges. A marijuana smoking pipe was found in the man’s pocket and he also admitted to drinking “a half bottle of tequila.” The man said that he had been driving in a reckless fashion because he had “been drinking.” The man failed field sobriety tests and told the officer, “I want to be honest with you….I’m drunk.” The man was processed for drunk driving at the police station and provided breath samples that were over twice the legal limit. He was booked into jail for DUI, driving while suspended, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the outstanding warrants.
Monday, February 15
A car parked in the 1100 block of 37th Street was vandalized by having its driver’s side mirror broken off. The victim suspected neighborhood kids, but there was no evidence of their involvement.
A 31-year-old man was arrested for domestic violence assault after he allegedly elbowed his eight month pregnant girlfriend in the side and then pushed her to the floor and pulled her sweatshirt over her face at their home in the 1300 block of 12th Street. The man had a scratch on his face and he said that his girlfriend had struck him during the course of an argument. The man was determined to be the primary aggressor and he was booked into jail.
A hit-and-run was reported to a car parked in the 2400 block of Commercial Avenue. The car sustained a dent and scraping down the length of the driver’s side. The offending vehicle is unknown.
Officers responded to a home in the 1100 block of 4th Street after receiving a report that a 32-year-old woman had been drinking and taken a “whole bottle of pills.” The woman ran out of the house and was located by police hiding behind a nearby garage. The woman admitted to drinking several glasses of wine and taking over 100 pills. She was transported by paramedics to the emergency room for evaluation and treatment.
A witness reported that 2 unknown teenaged boys stole an American flag that was on display in the 2500 block of Commercial Avenue for Presidents Day. The boys took off running with the flag when the witness told them he was calling the police.
A burglary was reported to a home in the 500 block of 5th Street in which an iPod Nano valued at $150 and a $2,000 gold and diamond ring were reported stolen. The victim believed entry into the home was possibly made through an unlocked window. The victim provided possible suspect information and the matter is under further investigation.
A 38-year-old man was arrested at his home in the 1400 block of 17th Street on an outstanding $100,000 bail felony drug warrant and two misdemeanor warrants. He was booked into jail.
Tuesday, February 16
A 27-year-old Sedro-Woolley man was cited for driving with a suspended driver’s license after he was involved in a one car accident in the 1300 block of Q Avenue. The man said that he started to turn onto 14th Street but realized too late that he wanted 13th Street and struck the center median on Q Avenue with his car. The airbags deployed on the car, but the man was uninjured. The vehicle had to be towed from the median.
A 41-year-old Oak Harbor man faces felony and misdemeanor drug charges after an officer located suspected methamphetamine, prescription and narcotic pills, and a small amount of marijuana on him after he was arrested in the 1100 block of Dakota Avenue for having an active felony drug warrant. The man claimed that he did not have a drug “problem” and only used drugs occasionally. He was booked into jail.
Two boats stored inside of a fenced storage facility in the 8800 block of Stevenson Road had electronic devices stolen from them. One boat was missing a VHF radio valued at $100 and the other boat was missing a GPS unit of unknown value. There are no suspects at this time.
A motorhome parked inside of a storage facility in the 8800 block of Stevenson Road was broken into the contents rifled through. The owner said that he discovered he was missing a $500 generator, a $200 power buffer, and a battery charger and a satellite television receiver valued at $150 each. Again, there were no suspects.
Someone entered an unlocked car parked in the 1100 block of 24th Street and stole a purse containing the vehicles registration, insurance card, and a towing card.
Wednesday, February 17
An unlocked vehicle parked in the 1600 block of 32nd Street was prowled during the night. Missing from the vehicle was a digital camera valued at $100, a bowling ball in a bag, and the victim’s checkbook.
Two cars and a travel trailer were prowled during the night at a home in the 2900 bock of I Avenue. The cars and trailer had been left unlocked and although they had been rifled through, the owner said that nothing appeared to be missing.
Police are investigating the report that an unknown man went to a home in the 400 block of T Avenue and asked if there were any odd jobs he could perform. The homeowner paid the small a small amount of money to repair a leaky hose, and the man asked to use the bathroom. The man then left after saying he needed to run an errand and never returned. The homeowners then discovered they were missing a necklace valued at $50 from their bathroom. The homeowners provided a description of the man and police have a lead on his identity.
A 35-year-old man was arrested at a home in the 900 block of 4th Street for domestic violence assault after he allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by her hair, spit in her face, and threw her into a table. The man also allegedly punched and head butted the girlfriend in the head. The girlfriend had confronted the man after he had forced his way into the bathroom where the woman’s 12-year-old daughter was using the toilet. The man was intoxicated and called his girlfriend and her daughter numerous profane and derogatory names. The girlfriend had clumps of hair pulled from her head and a fresh lump on her forehead. The man was also belligerent and profane to officers when he was arrested. He was booked into jail on the assault charge.
Thursday, February 18
A vacant duplex for sale in the 1000 block of 28th Street was discovered to have been entered and numerous empty beer cans and cigarette butts were found scattered around the interior. Extra police presence around the property was requested until it is sold.
Employees of a business in the 700 block of 30th Street reported the theft of mail from the business’s mailbox. The business became aware of the theft when they did not receive an insurance check for over $1,900. Further investigation revealed that the “pay to the order” line of the check had been altered with a different name and that the check had been cashed at a local casino. The employees had never heard of the man believed to be from Everett whose name had been fraudulently printed onto the check prior to cashing. The matter is under further investigation.
A hit-and-run was reported on State Route 20 at Christianson Road in which a Honda Accord had struck three other vehicles and fled the scene. No one was injured. Witnesses obtained a license number on the fleeing vehicle and it was learned it was owned by a 33-year-old Anacortes man. Officers went to the man’s home and learned he had left on a bike after returning home in his car. A family member said that she did not know where the man had gone, but that there was no insurance on their car. The man’s car had fresh front end damage and the man had a suspended driver’s license. As the man did not contact police as requested, he was mailed citations for hit and run, driving with a suspended driver’s license, and having no insurance.
Friday, February 19
A door to a motor home parked in the 1400 block of 13th Street was suspiciously found open. The owner was contacted and the interior of the RV checked, but it did not appear that anything was missing.
