Police are investigating allegations that a 37-year-old man provided
alcohol and showed pornographic movies to a 14-year-old girl at his
apartment on 7th St. last Monday. Officers contacted the girl and her mother at their home and found the girl was intoxicated to the point of passing out and that she had been vomiting. She was transported to the emergency room. She later told police that the man had provided her beer and vodka and that they had watched pornographic movies while drinking. The girl said that the man had not touched her or made any inappropriate comments. The allegations are under further investigation.

Friday, November 6
A 38-year-old Burlington woman was arrested for shoplifting at a business in the 1500 block of Commercial Avenue after an employee caught her stealing a bottle of perfume. The employee confronted the woman after following her outside and the woman removed the perfume bottle from her purse. An officer issued the woman a citation for theft and released her.
US Customs agents detained a 59-year-old Seattle man at the State Ferry terminal after discovering that he was in possession of marijuana. Customs agents had discovered a marijuana smoking pipe during a routine check of his vehicle and the driver then admitted he had a small amount of marijuana in the pickup too. Anacortes officers were summoned and the man was issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. The man was then released.
Officers responded to a home in the 2700 block of Dundee Place after it was reported a married couple was fighting. A 34-year-old woman answered the door and she had a bloody nose and a swollen eye. The woman was intoxicated and uncooperative but she said that she had been struck in the face by her 36-year-old husband. The woman claimed her husband had fled the house. An officer tried to photograph the woman’s injuries, but she became enraged and knocked the camera into the officer’s face. Her husband then emerged from a back bedroom and said that he had been hiding there all along. The man was told he was under arrest for assaulting his wife, but he then resisted being handcuffed while at the same time his wife struggled with officers to prevent his arrest. He was eventually handcuffed and booked into jail for domestic violence assault and for obstructing. His wife was also later cited for obstructing.
The father of a 23-year-old woman called police to request the removal of his daughter from his home in the 2600 block of Shannon Point Road. The woman had reportedly drunk a fifth of alcohol and had been screaming at the man and his wife. The daughter was located at a neighbor’s house and advised not to return to her parent’s house for the night.
Saturday, November 7
An officer stopped a car in a parking lot in the 1100 block of 12th Street after confirming the 22-year-old female driver had a suspended driver’s license. The woman smelled of intoxicants and swayed on her feet when she exited the car. When asked how much she had to drink, the woman answered, “Zero to one beer.” The woman failed field sobriety tests including providing a portable breath test that over twice the legal limit. The woman was arrested and taken to the police station where she refused to take a breath test. She was issued a citation for DUI and driving with a suspended license and released to sober friends.
Officers responded to a motel room in the 2900 block of Commercial Avenue after receiving the report of a man and woman yelling in one of the rooms. A 36-year-old man answered the door and told officers that nothing was wrong. His 38-year-old girlfriend exited the bathroom and appeared to be in pain. She claimed that her boyfriend had not done anything and that her right side hurt as the result of getting into a fight earlier with a large woman. The woman asked an officer to take her to the hospital to be examined while still saying that her boyfriend had not assaulted her. Later in the day, the woman contacted police and told them that she had lied initially and that her boyfriend had beaten her up. The woman said that her boyfriend was going through drug withdrawals and that he had beat her for no reason. She said that he had put her in a headlock and punched her in the ribs repeatedly. The woman said that her medical examination revealed she had broken ribs and a broken nose. She also said that the man had choked and tried to smother her. Police are seeking to locate the man.
A burglary was reported at a residence in the 2200 block of Dublin Place. A resident returned home and discovered he was missing a $600 laptop computer, a backpack with built in speakers for an I-pod, and a pellet rifle. The victim provided the names of two possible suspects who had visited his home earlier in the week. The matter is under further investigation.
A 23-year-old Anacortes man allegedly violated the terms of a protection order by repeatedly telephoning his ex-girlfriend. An officer telephoned the man believed to be in a neighboring town, but he hung up on the officer. The man was later sent a court summons for violation of a domestic violence protection order.
An officer assisted Child Protective Services into taking a newborn baby into protective custody at a local hospital due to the mother’s drug usage. The baby was going through detoxification.
A 15-year-old girl was arrested at her apartment in the 800 block of 28th Street after she allegedly grabbed and pulled her mother’s hair and threw the phone when the mother tried to call 911. The daughter had been screaming and swearing at her mother when the mother had confronted her about leaving the house without permission. Officers also witnessed the girl cursing at her mother. The girl was arrested and booked into juvenile detention on charges of domestic violence assault and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.
Sunday, November 8
A man who reported his car stolen from the 2100 block of H Avenue later told police that his grandson had admitted to “borrowing” the car and getting a flat tire in the Skyline area. The boy told his grandfather the location of the car after the grandfather told him he had reported the car stolen. No criminal charges will be sought at this time.
A woman living in the 1700 block of 12th Street discovered her 55-year-old estranged husband inside of her motor home parked next to her home. The man was intoxicated and refused to leave when asked. Police arrived and arrested the man on an outstanding warrant for a previous domestic violence charge. The man was taken to the county jail.
Graffiti was discovered on a campaign sign in the 1400 block of 12th Street. The candidate was notified and he was able to clean off the writing.
Monday, November 9
A woman living in the 1700 block of 28th Street told police that she wanted to pursue charges against her 17-year-old adopted son for breaking the lock on a door to her garage. The woman had locked the garage while away from home on a trip. She discovered the damage when she returned home. She confronted the boy who told her he had broken the lock because he wanted to get into the garage and there was “nothing she could do about it.” The matter is under further investigation.
A resident of the 2500 block of H Avenue reported that several plants had been pulled from their pots on his property. The resident just wanted the police to be aware of the damage.
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment in the 900 block of 22nd Street and could hear yelling from inside when they arrived. Officers spoke with a man and his girlfriend and learned they had been arguing about relationship issues and the woman refusing to loan the man her phone so he could call for a ride to leave. It was determined that no assault or crime had occurred.
The mother of a 16-year-old boy reported that her son was intoxicated and in a yelling match with his step-father at their home in the 4000 block of R Avenue. The boy was also reportedly hitting and kicking the walls. The boy told police that he had yelled at his parents after they took his phone away due to him coming home after his court imposed curfew and admitting he had drunk three or four beers. The boy smelled of alcohol and displayed other signs of drinking. The boy had blood on his hands that he said was caused by him punching two fist sized holes in his bedroom door. It was also learned that the boy had pushed his step-father during the course of his tirade. The boy was placed under arrest and booked into juvenile detention on charges of domestic violence assault, malicious mischief, and underage drinking.
Tuesday, November 10
A resident of the 1600 block of 32nd Street found a marijuana smoking pipe in his mailbox. It was unknown who put the pipe in the mailbox and it was turned over to the police for destruction.
A 15-year-old girl who had just been released from juvenile detention for previously assaulting her mother returned home and started yelling, screaming, and acting hysterical. Police responded and found the girl had locked herself in a closet and was threatening to kill herself. Police talked the girl into coming out and speaking with them and learned that she had punched a hole in the bedroom wall “because she wanted to.” The girl yelled and screamed when informed she was being taken into custody. The girl was taken to the emergency room where she continued to be belligerent with the hospital staff. The girl was eventually booked back into juvenile detention for malicious mischief.
Officers were dispatched to the area of the 1200 block of 26th Street after a security guard saw a man acting suspiciously around some parked vehicles. When the security guard approached the man, he dropped a chainsaw and ran off. It was learned that the chainsaw had been stolen out of the back of a vehicle parked in the lot. The saw was returned to the vehicle owner who said that nothing else appeared to be missing. Police checked the area for the unknown thief but were unable to locate him.
Wednesday, November 11
An officer stopped a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old Anacortes woman for speeding on Commercial Avenue. The woman smelled of intoxicants and her eyes were watery and bloodshot. She said that she had “a few drinks.” The woman was very unbalanced on her feet when she got out of her car to perform field sobriety tests. She dropped her wallet and difficulty picking it up off the ground. The woman failed sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. An opened bottle of rum was found in her car. The woman was processed for drunk driving and provided breath samples significantly over the legal limit. She was cited for DUI and released to a sober friend.
Thursday, November 12
A 25-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for investigation of robbery after he allegedly entered a pharmacy in the 1500 block of Commercial Avenue, told employees he had a bomb, and demanded prescription pills. The man was given several bottles of prescription medications and fled north on foot out of the store. Witnesses assisted in pointing out the man as he fled into the 1300 block of Q Avenue. Arriving officers ordered the man to stop but he continued to run until tackled from behind by an officer. The man was placed under arrest with the assist of other officers. Several unopened bottles of pills were located in the man’s backpack and other pill bottles were recovered from where he dropped them near the roadway during his flight. The man was initially taken to the emergency room for evaluation and then booked into the county jail.
A Garmin brand GPS unit valued at $200 was stolen from an unlocked car parked in the 800 block of Fidalgo Avenue sometime last July. The victim said that she had observed several unknown male juveniles near her car at the time, but had not called the police.
A neighbor checking on his friend’s house in the 1100 block of 7th Street while the friend was out of town discovered that the window to the back door had been broken out. The neighbor also found a large amount of clothing dumped in a bedroom and evidence the shower had been used. The friend/homeowner’s vehicles had also been moved and a vehicle parked in the garage was warm to the touch. A 35-year-old man who rented a small living space at another property the homeowner owned then arrived and told the neighbor that he had found the window broken. Police were summoned and the man told officers that he decided to stay in the house to “keep an eye on it” until the owner returned. The man had no explanation why he didn’t call the homeowner or the police when he “found” the window broken. The man eventually admitted that he had taken the homeowner’s car out of the garage and drove it, including taking it to LaConner. Police spoke on the phone with the homeowner who said that the man did not have permission to be inside of his house or drive his cars. The man faces possible criminal charges of auto theft and burglary.
Friday, November 13
A 32-year-old transient was arrested for criminal trespass after employees of a grocery in the 900 block of 11th Street found him sleeping in an area of the bakery that was not open to the general public. The man had fled out of the store when confronted by employees and was contacted by police a couple of blocks away. The man told police that he knew he shouldn’t be in that part of the store, but that he was cold and wet and went there to sleep. The man was issued a criminal citation and was released.
