Two men got into a fight at work, apparently over a woman, and both men say they want to press charges. Both men got punches in and one was taken to the hospital. Here's the official story...
Officers responded to a food processing plant in the 3200 block of T Avenue regarding a fight that had just occurred between 2 employees on Thursday. Both employees had reportedly sustained minor injuries. A 34-year-old man said that he had been in the locker room when he had been attacked by a 28-year-old co-worker and had his hair pulled and his necklace ripped off. The older man said that he only fought back in self defense and was able to punch the other man. The older man said that the younger man was jealous of a friendship that he had with the younger man’s former girlfriend. The older man was taken to the hospital because he said his back was injured. The younger man told an officer that he was the victim because he had been sitting in the locker room when the older made came in and punched him in the face. The younger man had swelling and bruising around his eye. Both men said that they wanted to press charges against each other and there were no independent witnesses to the fight. Possible assault charges are pending.
Friday, October 30
A 23-year-old Anacortes woman was sent a court summons for malicious mischief after she allegedly broke the front window at a home in the 1500 block of 10th Street. The home renter said that she had argued with the woman earlier and told her she needed to move out as she had only been a guest at the house. The renter said that she heard the window break and then saw the woman standing near it. When the renter told the woman she was calling the police, the woman walked away. Police could not locate the woman at the time, so the summons was issued.
Two 16-year-old Anacortes boys were detained by employees of a store in the 900 block of 11th Street after they had been seen leaving the store without paying for two rice bowls, a stick of deodorant, and a bottle of soda. Both boys admitted to a police officer that they had concealed the smaller items in their pockets and then walked out with the rice bowls without attempting to pay. Both boys were released to their parents after being told they would be charged with theft through juvenile court.
Two 15-year-old Anacortes girls were contacted by police after they were seen running from a home in the 1100 block of 34th Street after police had received the report of a fight in progress at the home. The girls said that they had left the house after the father of one girl had gotten into a fight with another man. (The adults were contacted but did not want to pursue the fight incident criminally.) An officer noted that the girls both smelled of alcohol though and had poor balance and bloodshot eyes. Both girls provided portable breath tests that confirmed that they had been drinking. Both girls were arrested and referred to juvenile court on charges of underage drinking. They were released to their parents.
Saturday, October 31
Officers responded to the report of an argument between a man and his 21-year-old son at a home in the 3900 block of M Avenue. It was learned that the argument had started when the father had returned home with a woman. It was determined that no crime had occurred and both parties agreed to go to bed and discuss the matter in the morning.
Officers had to put down a wounded deer that was in the roadway on Oakes Avenue near Portalis Way. The deer had multiple broken legs and was bleeding badly from its abdomen.
The theft of $100 from a purse was reported by a resident of the 3600 block of Malland Court. The purse had been in the kitchen when a friend of the victim came over for a visit. The victim said that she also suspected the friend of taking cash from her in the past. Police intend to speak with the 27-year-old friend about her possible involvement.
Sunday, November, 11
Officers arrested a 20-year-old Anacortes man walking on Oakes Avenue for having six outstanding warrants for his arrest. The warrants were for previous driving offenses. The man displayed the effects of drinking and admitted that he had a “few drinks.” The man was issued a citation for underage drinking and booked into jail on the warrants.
An officer driving in the 700 block of Commercial Avenue saw a 28-year-old woman who was walking stumble and fall to the ground. A man walking with her helped her to her feet, but the woman started yelling at the man. The officer then saw the woman slap the man’s chest and face. When the woman saw the officer, she started to walk away and ignored the officer’s direction to stop. The woman was handcuffed after she put up mild resistance. The woman said the man was her boyfriend and she admitted to slapping him after they had argued about the man allegedly touching another woman’s leg at a bar. The man said that he did not want his girlfriend arrested and that her slapping him had just been “foreplay.” The woman was booked into jail on a charge of domestic violence assault.
A hit and run was reported to a Dodge pickup that had been parked curbside in the 4300 block of Tyler Way. The pickup appeared to have been sideswiped by another vehicle going in reverse. Paint chips and pieces of broken tail light from the suspect vehicle were found at the scene. A neighbor informed the victim that a friend of the neighbor’s daughter had been picked up by her sister that evening and provided an address. An officer went to the home in the 1300 block of D Avenue and discovered a Toyota pickup with fresh damage to its taillight area. An officer spoke with a 17-year-old girl who admitted that she had backed into the victim’s pickup and then “freaked out” and left the scene. Possible criminal charges are pending against the girl.
A possible attempted break-in was reported at a home in the 3700 block of Commercial Avenue. The resident discovered that someone had kicked a door on the attached garage and split the door jam. Pry marks were also visible near the door lock. The resident did not believe entry had been made into the house and nothing was missing.
A 30-year-old man was arrested in the 3100 block of Commercial Avenue for having numerous misdemeanor and felony warrants for his arrest after an officer saw him drive into a business parking lot. The warrants stemmed from previous charges that included failure to register as a sex offender, animal cruelty, theft, and escape from community custody for child molestation. When contacted by police, the man and his 27-year-old girlfriend both tried to lie about the man’s identity by providing a false name and date of birth. The woman was cited and released for obstructing a police officer and the man was also charged with obstructing and driving while his license was suspended. The man was booked into jail on his warrants.
Monday, November 2
A 33-year-old Concrete man was booked into jail on a felony investigative hold for allegedly sexually assaulting his former girlfriend at an apartment in the 800 block of 29th Street. The victim reported that she had been standing outside her apartment when the man had arrived unwanted and forced her inside. The man allegedly then grabbed her around the neck and choked her to the point of almost losing consciousness. He also allegedly slapped and punched the woman and caused their 4-month-old child to fall from her lap onto the floor. The woman said that the man then forced her to get undressed and would not allow her to leave the apartment. The man rifled through the apartment and stole cash and jewelry. The man then allegedly raped the woman and then left on foot. The woman alerted a neighbor who called the police. The woman was taken to the hospital for examination and treatment. She had visible marks and bruising on her neck, face, and arms. The man was later arrested after he returned to the apartment.
An argument between a 15-year-old girl and her mother at their apartment in the 800 block of 28th Street over the girl climbing out a window and being gone all weekend escalated to the point to where the girl allegedly pulled her mother’s hair and grabbed her arm. The girl then fled the apartment with a friend. Attempts to locate the girl at the time were unsuccessful. A referral was later sent to the Prosecutor’s Office charging the girl with domestic violence assault.
Officers responded to an injury accident at the intersection of 17th Street and N Avenue and learned that a car driven by a 28-year-old Anacortes man had run a stop sign and collided with a car driven by a 21-year-old Anacortes woman. The woman had cuts on her head and hand, and 3 other passengers in her car suffered cuts, bumps, and bruises. The male driver and his 17-year-old girlfriend who had been a passenger in his car both initially tried to say that the girlfriend had been driving, but witnesses confirmed that the man had been driving. Witnesses said that the man had been speeding and running other stop signs on N Avenue just prior to the collision. The man smelled strongly of alcohol and had a warrant for his arrest and was placed under arrest. The man was taken to the police station where he admitted to driving the car and running multiple stop signs. He also admitted to drinking a large glass of straight vodka. The man performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was also advised he was under arrest for drunk driving. He provided breath samples that nearly twice the legal limit. His driving status was also suspended. The man was issued citations for DUI, reckless driving, and driving while suspended. As the jail would not accept the man on his warrant, he was released to a sober friend.
Tuesday, November 3
A 15-year-old student was contacted at the High School after staff received information that she might be in possession of drugs. The student told school officials that she had some marijuana in her boot and a small baggy of suspected marijuana was located. An officer spoke with the student who declined to say who she got the marijuana from. The girl was released to her mother after being informed that she was being referred to Juvenile Court on charges of being in possession of marijuana.
A Martin acoustic guitar was stolen from the back seat of an unlocked SUV parked at a store in the 900 block of 11th Street. Nothing else in the car appeared to be missing. The guitar was valued at $500.
Officers responded to the area of the 1100 block of 20th Street regarding the report of a fight in progress. Officers spoke with a 38-year-old man who said that two “meatheads” in a pickup had stopped and fought with him. The man said that the pickup had been following his vehicle very closely and that he had made a hand gesture at them. The pickup stopped when the man arrived home and the parties exchanged words and a fight ensued. The man said that he did not know the other men nor did he want to pursue any criminal charges.
Wednesday, November 4
A 38-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested in the 900 block of 11th Street after an officer recognized her and knew she had a warrant from a previous driving offense. The woman was arrested and later released after receiving a new court date as the jail would not accept her for booking.
A 32-year-old woman was arrested at her home in the 7100 block of Aqua Court for having 6 outstanding warrants for her arrest. The warrants stemmed from previous driving and drug possession charges and one warrant had a 30 day jail commit. She was booked into the county jail.
The owner of a car parked in the 2200 block of Dublin Place discovered that someone had broken out a side window during the night and stole a CD player from the dash. The front windshield had also been cracked. The CD player was valued at approximately $80.
An officer stopped a car driven by an 18-year-old Anacortes man in the 1500 block of Commercial Avenue for an equipment violation. The officer smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the car and the driver admitted he had some marijuana and a pipe under the seat. A 17-year-old boy who was a passenger in the car also admitted he had a pipe and a baggy of marijuana and turned the items over to the officer. A broken bong was also found under the front car seat. The driver was issued a citation for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and released. The 17-year-old was released to a parent and faces similar charges through juvenile court.
A 20-year-old woman was contacted at her home in the 3700 block of W. 7th Street after it was reported that she was “out of control” and possibly under the influence of drugs. The woman’s parents reported that the woman had become enraged earlier and threw an object at a pantry door causing a hole to be punched in the door. The woman also allegedly shoved her father while trying to force her way into her parent’s bedroom. The woman screamed at officers while she was placed under arrest for domestic violence assault and malicious mischief. She was booked into jail with the hope the court would assist in getting treatment for her.
Thursday, November 5
A 31-year-old man was arrested at a motel in the 2900 block of Commercial Avenue on an outstanding felony warrant for a previous charge of Assault in the 3rd Degree. The man was turned over to a Mount Vernon Police officer for final transport to the jail.
Officers checked the area around a home in the 1400 block of 26th Street after a resident heard a noise and saw a prowler inside of her fenced backyard. The man then jumped over the fence and fled. The prowler was wearing a dark colored hoodie. Officers were unable to locate any possible suspects.
Officers were dispatched to a home in the 1700 block of 28th Street after neighbors complained of loud music, shouting, and the smell of marijuana. A 17-year-old boy answered the door and told officer his mother was away on vacation. Two 16-year-old Anacortes boys were also in the house. All three boys smelled of alcohol and had watery bloodshot eyes. All three boys admitted to drinking at least one beer and they provided portable breath tests that confirmed they had been drinking. The two 16-year-olds were taken home and released to their parents. All three boys were referred to Juvenile Court on charges of underage drinking.
