Friday, October 9

An Anacortes woman reported her vehicle was broken into while she hiked at Mount Erie.  The woman left the vehicle at 4pm and when she returned around 6pm she discovered a window had been broken out and an old purse which contained nothing of value was taken from the back seat. 

A 31-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for Furnishing Alcohol to Minors after a concerned citizen spotted the man and two young people  sleeping in the car in the 2300 block of west 6th St.  A 17-year-old Anacortes girl was also arrested for Minor Consuming Alcohol.  Open bottles of beer were found in the vehicle. The second juvenile had not been drinking.

Saturday, October 10

A 37-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested for DUI after an officer observe her vehicle strike the lane dividing barriers on R Ave near 32nd St.  The vehicle continued southbound and turned east on to SR 20 where the officer stopped it.  The woman showed signs of intoxication and was asked to perform field sobriety tests.  She was arrested for DUI and taken to the station for a BAC. 

Officers were called to a domestic assault in the 4800 block of Hickory Dr. A 38-year-old woman was arrested for Assault 4th degree DVPA.  She allegedly pushed her husband during an argument.

A 27-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for DUI and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after an officer traveling eastbound in the 2500 block of Oakes Ave observed a vehicle traveling westbound with no head lights on.  The officer stopped the car and observed the driver was slumped over the wheel and hardly coherent.  The officer also observed empty beer bottles in the vehicle.  The driver admitted he had been drinking.  He failed field sobriety tests and was transported to the Police Department for a BAC.  A marijuana pipe was discovered on the man’s person at the time of arrest.

Sunday, October 11

A 30-year-old Anacortes man was assaulted early Sunday morning at a local establishment in the 400 block of Commercial Ave.  The man and his friend were drinking at the bar when another patron punched him in the face knocking him to the ground.  The suspect then fled out the back door.  Both the victim and his friend claim the assault was unprovoked.  Police are reviewing surveillance video and talking to witnesses.  Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Officer Janet Wilson at 293-4684. 

Excessive alcohol consumption and rudeness appeared to have been the motives in an assault in the 900 block of 35th St.  Officers were called to the all night party after a 34-year-old Seattle man reported he was assaulted by a 27-year-old Anacortes woman.  The man said that the woman had assaulted him by hitting him in the face for no apparent reason.  The woman said she had struck the man after he had said some very unkind things to her about her appearance.  A witness was not forth coming with information.  All parties involved were very intoxicated.  The case has been sent to the City Prosecutor. 

Monday, October, 12

A resident in the 900 block of 27th reported a boy’s Mongoose bicycle had been abandoned in their yard.  The bicycle was retrieve and is at the Police Department waiting for its owner to claim it. 

Two Anacortes women were cited and released for possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia following traffic stop.  An officer observes the vehicle northbound on Commercial Ave. in the 3300 block.  One of the vehicle’s headlights was not working.  The officers stopped the vehicle to advise the driver of the headlight problem.  However he discovered a bigger problem when the driver rolled down the window and a strong odor of marijuana came from the vehicle.  After a brief investigation the driver age 22 and her passenger age 20 turned over a small amount of marijuana and a smoking pipe. 

An officer on routine patrol in the Cap Sante area discovered a vehicle in the park after hours.  When the officer contacted the occupants he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.  An 18-year-old Anacortes woman and a 20-year-old Anacortes man were both cited and released after a brief investigation found they were in possession of a small amount of marijuana and several smoking pipes. 

Tuesday, October 13

A 67-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on two warrants for Violating A Court Order.  The arrest occurred in the 2000 block of 39th St. The man had been arrested on Thursday October the 8th on the same charges.  Since court was in session he was allowed to go before the court and avoid going to jail.  However, he left the courtroom before his case was heard.  The man resisted officers attempts to take him into custody and broke free of their grasp. Officers were concerned as the man has been armed with firearms in the past.  The man was subdued with a Taser, and taken into custody. 

An alert pharmacist in the 1200 block of 24th St. told police that he had received a forged prescription.  The pharmacist said that a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt entered the pharmacy and presented prescriptions for Methadone and Dilaudid.  The prescriptions appeared to be from a Seattle doctor.  A phone call to the doctor’s office confirmed they were fraudulent.  Since the man had not waited for his prescriptions, police were unable to locate him.  Similar fraudulent attempts have been made at other pharmacies in the area with the same doctor’s prescriptions.

Wednesday, October 14

An Anacortes man who sells videos and CDs on Commercial Ave. on Saturdays was the victim of a bad check passed by a 20-year-old Anacortes man.  The man wrote the check for $135.25 on August 29th.  There have been insufficient funds in his bank account to pay the check ever since.  Officer’s believe he may no longer be in the area as his phone is disconnected, and he has an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The investigation is continuing.

A 30-year-old Anacortes man received a citation for Negligent Driving following collision at the intersection of 29th and Commercial Ave.  Both vehicles involved were Eastbound on 29th waiting for the light to change on Commercial.  The defendant was driving a 1990 Honda and decided he wanted to back up the street to go to a friend’s house.  He revved the engine, put the car in reverse and struck the 2010 Toyota Camry that was behind him.  No one was injured in the collision but there was extensive front end damage to the Camry. 

A 22-year-old Anacortes woman was released on her own recognizance after she was arrested for theft.  Police were summoned to a retail business in the 900 block of 11th St.  The woman’s employer had noticed money missing after the woman’s shift on several occasions.  When confronted wit the evidence the woman admitted she had taken cash to pay medical bills.  Felony charges will be filed against her.

Thursday, October 15

An officer on routine patrol in the 300 block of Commercial Ave observed a man urinating in the roadway.  He contacted the intoxicated man who claimed to have just left an establishment in the area.  When asked why he did not use their restroom, he responded that bar had already closed. The 25-year-old Bellingham man was cited for urinating in public and got a ride home with a friend. 

Police are investigating a suspicious fire at the Tommy Thompson Trail as an arson.   The fire was reported at 11:44 AM on Thursday and quickly spread, destroying about 300ft of the trestle.  Numerous witnesses are being questioned and police are reviewing surveillance tapes of the area.  The Anacortes Parks Foundation is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person(s) responsible for the fire.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Anacortes Police Department Tip Line at (360)299-1985.
