Five vehicles parked at the Cap Sante Marina had windows broken out of them on Thursday night. The Security guard alerted police after he heard a car alarm go off in the parking lot and discovered the damaged vehicles. It appeared that nothing was taken out of the vehicles and that this was an act of vandalism. No suspects were located.

Friday, September 11
Two vehicles parked side by side in the 1100 block of 27th Court were egged sometime during the night. The egg washed off and there was no permanent damage to the cars.
A 46-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for theft after employees of a grocery in the 1500 block of Commercial Avenue saw the man conceal packages of meat, bottles of beer, and laundry detergent in a backpack and then leave the store without paying. The man was reported to be intoxicated and he rode off on a bicycle, but not before falling off the bike and breaking his glasses. The man was found hiding in some bushed near the 1100 block of Q Avenue and taken into custody. He admitted to stealing items from the store and the items were recovered from his backpack. The man was cited for theft and released.
The 21-year-old boyfriend of a woman who had reportedly been tailgating another car driven by a 42-year-old Anacortes man on SR 20 allegedly confronted the older man at a parking area in the 2000 block of Commercial Avenue. The older man told officers that he had been tapping his brakes in an effort to get the other car to back off. He also reported that he and the younger man exchanged words and the younger man then alluded to having a gun. The older man said that he could see a handgun in the waistband of the younger man’s pants. The younger man told an officer that he had received a phone call from his girlfriend who had been scared because the older man had gotten out of his car and yelled at her because she was following him too close. The younger man said that he located and confronted the older man and the older man asked him to fight. The younger man said that he responded by telling the older man he “had a license to carry.” The younger man said that he never showed the weapon to the man or threatened him, and that he had put the gun into his girlfriend’s car. A pistol was recovered from a car driven by the younger man’s girlfriend and it was confirmed the younger man did have a valid concealed pistol permit. The older man confirmed that the younger man had never pulled out the gun. When the older man learned the younger man had a permit to carry the pistol, he told officers that he was not interested in pursuing the matter further.
Three vehicles parked at Whistle Lake were prowled with two of the vehicles having windows smashed out to gain entry. The other vehicle had been left unlocked. Four purses were stolen from the vehicles. The purses contained wallets, cash, identification, credit cards, checkbooks, and cell phones belonging to victims from Anacortes and Oak Harbor. There are no suspects at this time.
An officer contacted 2 women walking in the 800 block of Commercial Avenue as one of them was staggering and stumbling and appeared to be under 21 years of age. Both women were identified as 18-year-olds from Anacortes and the staggering woman smelled of alcohol. The woman consented to an eye test that indicated she had been drinking although she claimed she had not. She also provided a portable breath test that indicated she was two and a half times over the legal limit if she had been driving. The woman then said that she had “one beer.” The woman was arrested and cited for underage drinking and then given a courtesy ride to her home due to her unsteadiness. Her friend showed no signs of drinking and walked from the scene.
Saturday, September 12
An officer stopped a car at night in the 1300 block of Commercial Avenue after seeing it traveling without headlights on and driving on the wrong side of the road. When the officer asked for the driver’s license, he handed the officer a receipt from a tire store and mumbled something about the “tires are in the center console.” The driver was eventually identified as a 25-year-old Anacortes man who smelled strongly of intoxicants although he claimed to not have been drinking. When he exited the car he lost his balance leaned back against the car. The man failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for drunk driving. When the man was searched, a small baggy of suspected marijuana was found in his pant pocket. The man was processed for drunk driving and provided breath samples that were over twice the legal limit. He was cited for DUI and possession of marijuana and released to a sober relative.
The neighbor of an 83-year-old Anacortes woman reported that the woman’s lifeline alert was going off but that the woman was not responding to phone calls. The woman’s house was checked but she and her car were both missing. An officer later contacted the woman at her home and learned she had just been out of town for the night and was fine.
Sunday, September 13
An officer spoke with a 44-year-old man at his residence in Anacortes after his neighbor reported that the man had walked out to the mailbox in the nude. The neighbor’s young daughter was in bed at the time, but the neighbor was concerned his daughter would see the man if he repeated his behavior. The man said that he was embarrassed and he could offer no explanation why he had walked outside naked. The man was educated on the indecent exposure law and he assured the officer it would not happen again.
Officers responded to an apartment in the 1100 block of 29th Street after neighbors reported a possible domestic as yelling and screaming could be heard. Officers spoke with a 31-year-old man inside of the apartment who appeared to have been drinking. The man said that his mother wanted him to leave after they argued, so he was leaving, but that he may have “bumped” into her. The man’s girlfriend was also at the apartment and she said that the man had arrived at the apartment very angry and had knocked his mother out of the way as he entered. The girlfriend said that the man then grabbed her backpack that was on hooked her arm and drug her across the room. The girlfriend said that her wrist hurt as a result of being drug. Although neither woman wanted the man to get in trouble, he was arrested for domestic violence assault against his mother and his girlfriend. He was booked into jail.
A 41-year-old Hope Island man was arrested for drunk driving after an officer watched his truck weaving on Oakes Avenue and crossing over the centerline and fog lines repeatedly. The driver smelled strongly of alcohol, admitted he had a couple of beers, and that he had been having a hard time staying in his lane. The driver also admitted that he had been arrested for drunk driving a couple of months previously. The man failed field sobriety tests and later admitted he had drunk three whiskey drinks and approximately ten beers. The man was processed for drunk driving and provided breath samples that were significantly over twice the legal limit. He was cited for DUI and released to a sober relative.
Monday, September 14
An officer observed a man speak with a group of teens in the parking lot of a store in the 900 block of 11th Street, enter the store, and then come out with two cases of beer that were put into the teen’s car. The man then left driving a different vehicle. An officer stopped the teen’s car and saw the beer on the floor. One of the teens said that they had called the man to buy them the beer. The 3 occupants of the car were all 19-year-old Anacortes males. All three were cited for being minor’s of possession of alcohol. The older man’s vehicle was also stopped and he was identified as a 22-year-old Anacortes man. After initially saying that he had bought the beer for himself, the man admitted that he had been asked to buy the beer for the teens. He was cited and released for furnishing alcohol to minors.
An Anacortes man reported that his 14-year-old son had assaulted him outside of an apartment in the 800 block of 29th Street. A witness confirmed that he had seen the boy throwing rocks at his father and demanding money from him. The boy then allegedly pushed his father to the ground. Another witness said that she had seen the boy take a swing at his father and hit him in the arm. The father complained of soreness to his arms as the result of being knocked to the ground and punched. The boy then fled the scene. Officers were unable to locate the boy, but he was referred to juvenile court on charges of domestic violence assault.
An Anacortes man reported that he had loaned his pickup to his son and that the pickup had been damaged when his son got into an argument with a woman in the 1200 block of 29th Street. The passenger side of the pickup had sustained approximately $1,700 in damage by apparently having the passenger door thrown open with excessive force. The man alleged that a 20-year-old Anacortes woman his son had been arguing with caused the damage. Police contact to interview the son and the woman is pending.
Tuesday, September 15
A 52-year-old Mount Vernon woman with a long history of mental complaints was contacted at a store in the 900 block of 11th Street after she had told an employee that she had taken a half bottle of non-prescription pain medication. The woman showed an officer an empty medication bottle and the officer informed the woman it looked like the same bottle she had had shown police the previous year in a similar complaint. The woman was transported to the emergency room although she showed no symptoms of ingesting too much of any medication. The woman also had a history of purposely falling off beds at medical facilities and then claiming pain and injury. The hospital staff was instructed to call the police if the woman caused any problems as she had been assaultive to them in the past.
A 22-year-old Anacortes man reportedly went to the emergency room complaining of back pain and then allegedly became verbally abusive and spit on staff members after he was provided with pain medication. The man said that he had gone to the ER due to back pain, but that he had asked the staff how to stop the pain without drugs. The man said that he became upset when the staff gave him drugs and they did not work. The man denied spitting on anyone or threatening anyone. He was advised not to return to the emergency room.
A car parked in the driveway at a residence in the 4000 block of O Avenue had its rear window shattered. It was unknown what had been used to break the glass. The damage was estimated at $500.
A LaConner man reported that he had parked his car at Whistle Lake and returned later and found a rear side window had been broken out. The glove box had been rifled through, but it did not appear that anything was missing. Repair cost for the window was estimated at $250.
A 53-year-old Anacortes man was cited for negligent driving after driving his pickup into a ditch in the 3400 block of W. 5th Street. The man claimed that he had been making a turn when another car cut him off and caused him to drive off the roadway. The man’s story was inconsistent and he smelled of intoxicants and had watery eyes. The man said that he had a couple of beers and provided a portable breath sample that was slightly under the legal limit. The man was cited and released at the scene.
Officers contacted an intoxicated 46-year-old Anacortes man at the emergency room after he claimed he had been hit by a pickup driven by his ex-girlfriend while riding his bicycle. The man was very inconsistent in his story and he fluctuated between his ex-girlfriend driving the pickup with her current boyfriend as a passenger to the boyfriend driving the pickup. The man had no injuries that were consistent with being struck by a vehicle while riding a bike. He also claimed that he had not spoken with his ex in years as she lived in Mount Vernon and that he had no idea why she would run him over. This was the second time in two weeks that the man claimed he had been hit by a car while riding his bike. On both occasions he was intoxicated. On another occasion an officer had seen the man ride his bike into a telephone pole while the man was intoxicated and then claim he had been hit by a car. The complaint is under further investigation.
Wednesday, September 16
A 40-year-old Sedro-Woolley man was arrested in a parking lot in the 1100 block of 12th Street after it was confirmed he had a felony warrant for his arrest due to failing to appear in court for a probation violation hearing. The man was booked into the County jail.
Two bronze shaft packing girdles and two bronze shat tubs were stolen from behind a yacht business in the 3000 block of R Avenue. The items were valued at approximately $1,200. An adjacent business surveillance system showed a possible suspect and an employee of the business recognized the man. Police contact with the man for questioning is pending.
Police responded to a bus stop at 10th Street and Q Avenue after it was reported that a man wearing a cowboy hat had urinated near some bushes. Police contacted a 61-year-old Anacortes man who admitted he had urinated behind a bush. The man said that he could not walk the short distance to a restroom because he had a prostate problem and had to “go.” The man was cited for public indecency as police had warned him in the past about urinating in public.
Approximately 10 gallons of gasoline was siphoned from a US Customs and Border Protection van parked in the 1000 block of Q Avenue.
Thursday, September 17
A beagle puppy was taken to the pound after its owners could not be located. The puppy was found in the 2800 block of Coho Ln.
Officers cited 2 drivers for following too close after 2 non-injury collisions occurred within 15 minutes of each other. The first was in the 1300 block of “L” Ave and involved three cars. The second occurred in the 2900 block of Oakes Ave. and involved to vehicles.
