Friday, August 7

Two cars parked in a lot at Washington Park had windows smashed out while the owners were away.  Stolen from one of the cars was a bowling bag containing a bowling ball and a pair of bowling shoes.  It was unknown if anything was missing from the second car. 

A Cannondale mountain bike was reported stolen from outside of a residence in the 3600 block of Portage Lane.  Strangely though, the victim discovered that a Santa Cruz mountain bike in excellent condition had been in its place.  Since it was likely the second bike was also stolen, it was taken to the police station until the owner can be identified. 

An Anacortes officer assisted the Oak Harbor Police by speaking with a woman at the hospital who had reported that she had been assaulted by her fiancé at a home in Oak Harbor a few days earlier.  The woman reported that when she tried to break off her relationship with the man, he had started breaking things in her apartment and threw her down on the floor.  The woman also alleged that the man had grabbed her by the throat and then put a pillow over her mouth so she could not breathe.  The woman said that she hadn’t reported the incident immediately because the man had threatened to kill her if she went to the police.  The matter is under investigation by the Oak Harbor Police. 

Saturday, August 8

An Anacortes woman reported that she had been assaulted at a downtown bar by an unknown woman who had grabbed her hair and pulled.  The victim said that she learned that the other woman was mad because the victim had been speaking with the other woman’s ex-boyfriend.  The victim went home and later reported that the other woman had called her house and threatened her.  The investigation is ongoing and police contact with the other woman is pending. 

Police intervened in an argument between a man and his girlfriend at a home in the 4100 block of R Avenue.  It was learned that the couple share a vehicle and that the man was upset because the woman used the car more than he did.  It was determined that no crime had occurred. 

Sunday, August 9

A 43-year-old Anacortes man reported that he had been punched several times in the face by his ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend while in the restroom at a downtown bar.  The man said that when he tried to call the police, the current boyfriend identified as a 39-year-old Anacortes resident, broke his phone.  The man had visible cuts to his nose and face.  The current boyfriend later contacted the police and reported that the other man had poked him in the chest first and balled up his fists like he wanted to fight after the current boyfriend told the other man to quit sending his ex-girlfriend threatening text messages.  The boyfriend said that he felt threatened so he hit the man and knocked him to the ground.  After reviewing the case, the current boyfriend was cited for assault and the other man cited for provoking an assault.  

A 33-year-old Anacortes man was booked into jail on criminal trespass and disorderly conduct charges after he refused to leave the doorway of a downtown bar where he had been kicked out.  The man was highly intoxicated and kept yelling profanities at police in front of other patrons near the door.  The man had ignored several requests from the police to just walk away and call it a night, but he continued to swear and state he was not leaving.  He left in a patrol car for jail.    

Officers responded to a possible domestic disturbance at a home in the 800 block of 27th Street.  When officers arrived, the observed several people inside of the home drinking alcohol that appeared to be under 21 years old.  Several people tried to hide when they realized the police were at the house.  Officers were able to identify several people and check on their alcohol consumption.  Two 20-year-old Anacortes woman and one 19-year-old Arlington woman showed the effects of alcohol consumption and admitted to drinking.  They were cited for underage drinking and released.   

A vendor at the Anacortes Arts Festival reported that she had 3 bracelets and a pendant stolen from her booth during a 2 hour time frame.  The loss was estimated at over $300.  There are no suspects.  

An officer contacted a 14-year-old Anacortes boy near the skate park after a witness reported that he had possibly been smoking marijuana.  The officer had also seen the boy attempt to throw something into the grass but change his mind when he realized the officer was looking.  When asked what he had, the boy pulled a smoking pipe that contained burnt marijuana from his pocket.  The boy was placed under arrest and he admitted to using the pipe to smoke marijuana.  The boy was released to his mother after informed he was being referred to juvenile court for possession of drug paraphernalia.      

A 49-year-old Burlington man who was identified after being involved in a minor non-injury accident was arrested in the 2400 block of Commercial Avenue on an outstanding warrant for a previous DUI charge out of Skagit District Court.  The man was given a new court date and released. 

A 19-year-old woman was contacted in the backyard at a home in the 5100 block of Sterling Drive after it was reported that she threatened to hurt herself with a knife.  The woman told an officer that she was upset after having a disagreement with her boyfriend and admitted that she had grabbed a kitchen knife and wanted to cut herself.  The woman said that she would like to speak with a doctor and she was transported to the local hospital for evaluation.   

Monday, August 10

A 15-horsepower Honda outboard motor valued at $1,400 was reported stolen from the rear of a boat stored in a shed in the 4700 block of Fidalgo Bay Road.  A lock securing the motor to the boat had been cut.  There are no suspects at this time.           
   
A Salt Lake City woman returned to her car parked in a store parking lot in the 900 block of 11th Street and found that her side mirror had been knocked off.  She also found a note on the car that said “sorry.”  A witness said that a Chevy truck with a camper had hit the car, but the provided license number was incorrect.  Police are trying to locate the truck and driver. 

A 21-speed Raleigh mountain bike valued at $500 was stolen from the back of a pickup parked at a home in the 1200 block of 11th Street. 

A 25-horsepower Honda outboard motor valued at approximately $5,000 was stolen from an inflatable lifeboat on board a retired tugboat moored at a marina in the 3000 block of Oakes Avenue.     

A 37-year-old La Conner woman was contacted in the 1200 block of 24th Street and arrested on outstanding warrant for a charge of Third Degree Escape.  The warrant had a two day jail commit and the woman was booked into the county jail. 

A 19-year-old Anacortes man was cited for negligent driving after he lost control of the car he was driving as it turned from SR 20 onto R Avenue, slid off the roadway, and knocked out several sections of wooding fencing.  It appeared that excessive speed and poor tire condition were factors in the collision. 

Tuesday, August 11

The entry door to a common building at a housing complex in the 800 block of 29th Street was discovered to have been pried open.  An interior closet door was also found forced open, but nothing appeared to be missing from inside.  Repair cost to the interior door was estimated at $150.  

Officers contacted a 57-year-old Guemes Island man at a residence in the 400 block of 36th Street after the man had called 911 and yelled at the call taker about “demons and rebuking Satan.”  Upon arrival, officers found the man yelling and throwing things in the alley behind the house.  The man was yelling at another man who was standing nearby about junk piling up in the alleyway, and that the other man had stolen the junk from him and that now it was the other mans responsibility to clean it up.  The officer informed the ranting man that since he had piled the junk into the alley, it was his job to clean it up.  The ranting man then left in a car and further action is pending regarding moving the junk pile that was blocking the alley.  

An Anacortes woman reported that during mid-July she had noticed her checkbook was missing from her car as she was leaving the library.  The woman initially thought she had just lost the checkbook and not reported it to police.  However, she recently discovered that someone had forged and attempted to cash 2 of the missing checks at a bank in Arizona.  The matter is under further investigation.      

An approximate 45-foot chain and two heavy duty locks were reported stolen from a private alleyway in the 2000 block of H Avenue.  The chain had been used to block access to the alley to prevent trespassers on the property.  The loss was estimated at $125. 

An Anacortes man reported that he had sold a homemade paddle boat to a Marysville man for approximately $2,900, but that the check the Marysville man had paid with had bounced.  The man sent the Marysville man a certified letter, but has not received a response or payment.  Police contact with the Marysville man is pending. 

An officer stopped a car for a traffic violation near 12th Street and A Avenue and learned that the male driver did not have any identification.  The man told the officer that he was from Honduras and that he was an illegal immigrant.  The officer called the US Border Patrol and one of their agents then spoke with the driver.  At the request of the Border Patrol, the driver was taken into custody and later turned over to a Border Patrol agent for possible deportation. 

A 37-year-old Bellingham woman was arrested for domestic violence assault after she allegedly scuffled with her two teenaged daughters and pulled one of the daughter’s hair in the 700 block of Commercial Avenue.  The mother was intoxicated and it was learned that she had gotten upset with her daughters because they did not want her to drive.  The mother also allegedly bit the other daughter.  The mother was booked into the county jail. 

An officer spoke with 3 Anacortes teens and their parents after the kids were caught by the owner of a home in the 2100 block of Pennsylvania Court pouring soap into a fountain at the home.  It was agreed that the teens would assist in the cleanup of the fountain and that there would be no criminal charges.

Wednesday, August 12

Multiple office rooms in a medical building in the 1000 block of 20th Street were broken into during the nighttime hours.  Items stolen from the various offices included an iPod, bath towels, an electric teapot, and a clay figurine.  A shed on the property had also been entered and the cupboards ransacked, but nothing was known to be missing.  The building sustained damaged window screens and window locks.    

An unknown vandal broke a second story office window at a business in the 1700 block of Q Avenue.  It appeared that a chunk of concrete had been used to break the glass and damage the window screen.  The damage was estimated at approximately $150. 

Someone pried open the exterior door to the laundry room at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of 24th Street to gain entry.  Once inside, the unknown burglar then pried open other locked doors to an office and storage rooms.  Discovered stolen were assorted office supplies, a cordless screwdriver, a telephone handset, and some keys. 

A 29-year-old Anacortes man who was involved in a minor non-injury accident in the 1800 block of Commercial Avenue was arrested after it was discovered he had a suspended driver’s license and a warrant for his arrest from a previous DUI arrest.  The man was later released after being cited for the license offense and given a new court date on the warrant as the jail would not accept him for booking. 

A 14-foot aluminum boat was discovered abandoned near the shoreline of the Tommy Thompson Trail south off 34th Street.  A check of the boat registration revealed that it had been reported stolen to the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office from a home in the 13500 block of Slice Street.  The boat was transported to the police station and later released to the owner. 

A 17-year-old Anacortes girl reported that she had been walking her dog in the 700 block of K Avenue when a beagle mix breed dog ran out from a house and bit her in the leg.  The girl suffered a laceration to her shin.  The offending dog owner then called the dog and it returned to its home.  An officer contacted the offending dog owner who said that she had let her dog outside to relieve itself and that the dog had never bitten anyone previously.  The dog was current on its vaccinations and the matter was forwarded to the Animal Control Officer for review and follow-up.    

Thursday, August 13

An officer stopped a car driven by a 32-year-old Mount Vernon man in the 1100 block of 2nd Street because the man had a suspended driver’s license.  The man smelled strongly of alcohol, had watery eyes, and lethargic movements and speech.  The man initially said that he had been drinking “all day” but then caught himself and said he had two drinks.  The man declined to do field sobriety tests, but based upon the officer’s observations and his suspended driving status he was placed under arrest.  The man was taken to the police station where he refused to take the breath test.  He was cited for DUI, driving while suspended, and given an infraction notice for not having any insurance.  He was released to a sober adult. 

A car parked in the 1000 block of 22nd Street was prowled and a stereo amplifier, music CD’s, two bottles of perfume, and a cell phone were stolen from inside.  It appeared that entry had been made by unlocking the door by reaching through a partially open window.  The value of the missing items was estimated at approximately $2,400.        
    
An unlocked car parked in front of a house in the 1000 block of 21st Street was prowled and a laptop computer valued at $500.00 stolen from inside.  The victim found some clothing items left in the car that did not belong to her. 

An employee of a clinic in the 2300 block of Commercial Avenue arrived at work and discovered the interior of the building had been ransacked with drawers and cabinets open and items littering the floor.  It was then discovered that someone had tampered with the front door to gain entry and then pried an interior door open.  Items that were discovered stolen included a laptop computer valued at $1,900, a wireless router, over $100 in cash, a multi tool, postage stamps, and some film.  A backpack was later discovered on the roof of a restroom at Storvik Park.  The backpack contained items from the clinic and two vehicles prowls reported earlier in the day.  Documents in the backpack led to the arrest of a 20-year-old Anacortes man who subsequently admitted to an APD Detective that he had broken into the clinic and prowled the cars, and traded some of the stolen property for drugs.  The man was booked into jail on charges of burglary, trafficking in stolen property, and drug possession. 

The owner of clothing boutique in the 3000 block of Commercial Avenue some articles of women’s clothing and a hanging mannequin had been stolen the previous evening.  The stolen items were valued at over $60.

A Palm Pilot worth approximately $300 was stolen form a car parked in the 500 block of Commercial Avenue. The victim believed that he had left the driver’s door unlocked.      

An officer stopped a car driven by a 26-year-old Anacortes woman at the request of the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office because the woman had allegedly made threats of suicide.  The woman was emotionally upset but said that she had no intention of hurting herself.  A Deputy arrived and transported the woman to the hospital for evaluation. 

A 15-horsepower Yamaha outboard motor and fuel tank were reported stolen from a boat moored at a marina in the 3100 block of V Place.  The motor was valued at $2,400. 

Officers responded to the report of a domestic disturbance between a husband and wife at a home in the 1800 block of 37th Street and that the woman had just fled in a vehicle.  The husband reported that his wife had thrown a large candle at him which struck him in the back and caused pain.  The wife was located parked in her vehicle at a home in the 14000 block of Donnell Road.  The 47-year-old woman yelled and swore at the officer, and then struggled with him when she was told she was under arrest.  The woman finally calmed down after being handcuffed and admitted that she had thrown a candle at her husband, but that she was not sure if she had hit him.  She was booked into jail for domestic violence assault.     

A 61-year-old Anacortes woman was booked into jail on charges of domestic violence assault, malicious mischief, hit and run, and reckless driving after she allegedly chased after her 37-year-old daughter in her car and purposely rammed the car her daughter was driving several times.  The mother had reportedly become enraged at her daughter when her daughter told her she was planning on getting a divorce while at a home in the 4300 block of Whidbey Court.  The mother then allegedly scratched and spit on the daughter.  The daughter had fresh scratches on her arm and chest.  The daughter then left in her car with the mother following in her own car.  The daughter pulled to the side of the road three times, and each time her mother rammed into the daughter’s car.  The rear end of the daughter’s car and the front end of the mother’s car both showed fresh damage.  The mother said that she was upset because her daughter hadn’t listened to her and admitted ramming her daughter’s car so she would stop and listen. 

Friday, August 14

The daughter of an 83-year-old Anacortes man reported suspicious activity on her father’s bank account after she discovered numerous ATM withdrawals totaling over $3,000 from locations in Snohomish County while the man had been bedridden.  The daughter was suspicious of a woman who had been staying on her father’s property in a motorhome before being asked to leave.  Police are attempting to locate and speak with the woman. 

A jogger on Satterlee Road found mail taken from a business on Summit Park Road’s mailbox.  The mail had been opened and a check for over $1,000 was missing from one of the tampered envelopes. 

Someone entered a home in the 4600 block of Devonshire Drive through an unlocked door while the resident was away and stole two electronic game systems, two handheld game controllers, and four game cartridges.  The loss was estimated at $100.
