A woman reported that she had been involved in a minor collision in the 1600 block of “R” Ave.. Her vehicle had been struck in the rear by a blue Geo Metro driven by a 61-year-old Anacortes man. The man refused to exchange information and left the scene of the collision. Officers are investigating the collision as a Hit and Run accident.
A resident in the 4100 block of Jasper Way reported that a Dewalt miter saw valued at $250 was taken from an attached garage over night. It is believed the garage door may have been left open.
No one was injured in a two car collision at 12th and Commercial Ave. A 77-year-old Anacortes man was cited for fail to yield the right of way after the 2005 Chevrolet van he was driving with collided with a 1999 Toyota Camry on Commercial Ave. just south of 12th St. The driver of the Camry was cited for not having a valid license.
Saturday, July 18
A 32-year-old Tukwila man was arrested for being in physical control of a vehicle after consuming alcohol, after an officer observed the man slumped over the wheel of a green Acura in the 4300 block of Oakes Ave. The man displayed obvious signs of intoxication, and refused to submit to field sobriety tests and was transported to the station for a BAC.
A 26-year-old man was arrested for DUI after he “spun out,” while exiting a parking lot in the 1100 block of “O” Ave. An officer observed the spin-out and stopped the vehicle. The pick up the man was driving contained an open bottle of whiskey and some cans of beer. The man submitted to some field sobriety tests, and was transported to the station for a BAC. Two passengers in the truck were left to walk home.
Police were summoned to a residence in the 1300 block of Broadview after a woman reported that her boyfriend had head-butted her. The officers discovered a 23-year-old man hiding behind a door in the house. He denied the assault and the woman recanted her original statement. She told officers that he had not assaulted her but she was mad at him and wanted him to go to jail. The man had two outstanding municipal court warrants and was in violation of a court order baring him from the residence. He was arrested and taken to jail.
A 15-year-old Anacortes boy was referred to Juvenile Court for shoplifting two Rice Bowls from a grocery store in the 900 block of 11th St. The boy was released to his grandmother.
Neighbors in the 100 block of 5th St. called police after watching a woman pry open a door on a vacant residence. The woman and her male companion left the area in a red car prior to the police arriving. The building was checked and nothing appeared missing.
Sunday, July 19
A 16-year-old Anacortes girl was arrested for MIP/MIC assault, and resisting arrest, after officers spotted her stumbling down “R” Ave. bare foot at 1AM Sunday morning. They contacted her to make sure she was OK. It became obvious that she was intoxicated. The young woman did not want to be taken into custody and resisted officer’s attempts to secure her. While being placed in the back seat of the police car she kicked both officers several times. She was booked into Juvenile Detention.
Monday, July 20
A 16-year-old girl from Blaine was cited for improper lane travel after the 2006 Honda she was driving collided with a 2002 Hyundai in the eastbound lanes of SR 20 just east of the spur. The driver of the Honda wanted to make room for a semi truck that was merging in eastbound traffic, so she moved to the left lane and struck the Hyundai. No one was injured in the collision.
No one was injured when a semi-truck collided with a 1997 Ford Taurus at the intersection of 32nd and Commercial. The semi was turning north onto Commercial and occupied both westbound lanes in order to accommodate the turn. The driver of the Ford tried to get around the semi on the right hand side, just as the semi started to turn right. The 79-year-old Burlington man who was driving the Ford was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
Police are investigating damage that occurred to a Red Cross vehicle. Someone broke a windshield out of one of the trucks and sprayed a fire extinguisher on two other trucks. The fire extinguisher is believed to have been taken from the Fidalgo Bay area. Police are following up leads in the case. Two men were arrested in this case and admitted that they had vandalized the van. One man was a 27-year-old Anacortes man, the other a 25-year-old Rockport resident. They were arrested for Malicious Mischief in the 2nd degree. Alcohol was a factor in this case.
A 45-year-old Anacortes man is being held on $25,000 bail in the Skagit County Jail after a reported domestic assault in the 2600 block of 17th. Police received a call of a verbal argument by on arrival at the call realized that the 43-year-old victim had been choked by her boyfriend during an argument. The man fled prior to police arrival but was located two days later at an apartment on “Q” Ave.
Two Skagit County men visited Anacortes on Monday night and both wore out their welcome before the night was over. The first man was contacted at 02:18 in the 1400 block of 11th St. A resident reported seeing a man attempting to enter cars in the area. Officers located several unlocked cars that had been opened and rifled through. Nothing appeared to have been taken from the cars. Officers located a possible suspect several blocks away. The 28-year-old Sedro-Woolley man was obviously intoxicated and told officers he had been out drinking with an Anacortes woman. He denied any involvement in the vehicle prowls, and was escorted out of town. Several hours later a resident in the 800 block of 23rd St. summoned officers to her residence as there was a strange man passed out on her living room floor. Officers contacted the 34-year-old La Conner man. The extremely intoxicated man told officers he had been with his friend earlier in the night but was having a hard time remembering what had happened. The residence belonged to a family member of the woman who the first man said that he had been visiting. The home owner did not want to prosecute but did ask that officers remove the man from her residence. Officers obliged and transported the man to his residence near Reservation Rd.
Tuesday, July 21
A small electronic device used to count the number of people that use Whistle Lake was taken over the weekend. The infrared counter was valued at $1,500 and was obtained by the Parks Department on a grant. Anyone who has information about this theft is asked to call the Anacortes police Department.
Wednesday, July 22
A resident in the area of 18th and “D”Ave. saw two juveniles prowling her neighbor’s unlocked car and phoned police. Officers responded and questioned one boy, but were unable to connect him to the prowl. Nothing appeared to have been taken out of the vehicle.
A local fitness club reported that a man came in looking for a job is suspected of taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the men’s locker room. After the man left, a patron discovered his pants and wallet had been removed from an unlocked locker and some cash was missing from his wallet. The staff knew the suspect’s name and officers have been attempting to get a hold of him. The investigation is continuing.
Thursday, July 23
A 34-year-old Oak Harbor man was arrested for assault 4th degree after starting a fight with his old girlfriend’s new boyfriend. The man had been drinking at a local establishment when he ran into his ex-girlfriend’s roommate. He decided to go visit his ex-girlfriend and arrived at her apartment in the 1100 block of 27th Ct. around 9 pm. The woman and her new boyfriend repeatedly asked the man to leave and he refused. Eventually he started to leave but returned and initiated the fight in front of the apartment complex. No one was seriously injured in the fray.
Two vehicles were recently reported stolen from Anacortes. The first was a White 1982 Toyota truck that had been left parked in the North Basin Marina parking lot. The vehicle had been parked there since Monday morning July 22nd. The second vehicle was reported stolen on Friday 7/24 at 8:45 AM. A tan 1985 Subaru station wagon was taken from in front of a residence in the 300 block of “U” Ave. The vehicle was left unlocked and the keys were in it. The vehicle has a lot of body damage.
