anacortes_police_logo.pngThe owner of a boat moored at Cap Sante Marina discovered a naked man and woman when he went to check on his boat on Monday, June 15. The couple fled upon the owner’s arrival, but the woman left her purse behind. There was also evidence that the couple had been eating and drinking while on board the boat. The woman’s ID was in the purse and the boat owner looked at her picture and confirmed it had been the same woman. The boat owner said that she did not have permission to be on the boat. The man was located in the area of the marina and he told the officer that the woman had invited him onto the boat. The man was cited for criminal trespass and the woman also faces charges of criminal trespass when located.

Friday, June 12

A 36-year-old Bellingham man was arrested in the 1700 block of Commercial Avenue on an outstanding felony warrant for a previous court order violation.  He was booked into the county jail. 

The mother of a 21-year-old Anacortes woman reported her daughter missing after the driver of a car the daughter had been traveling in was arrested in Snohomish County two days earlier.  The daughter had been left with the car and had reportedly called her mother to say that a friend had picked her up and they were heading “north.”   The daughter was eventually located at a Snohomish County casino where she had been gambling since going “missing.”  . 

An Anacortes man said that he had been talking on a pay phone in the 1500 block of Commercial Avenue when an unknown man stole his bicycle that had been lying next to the phone booth.  The victim said that he had no idea who the suspect was, but described him as approximately 40 years old with a scruffy beard and wearing a blue and white football jersey with the number 80 on it. 

Saturday, June 13

An officer contacted a 15-year-old boy who he had watched walking with two other teens after the boy walked out of a yard in the area of 13th Street and B Avenue late at night.  When asked what he was doing, the boy said that he was “hiding a megaphone.”  The boy eventually admitted to the officer that he and his friends had stolen the megaphone and some glowsticks from a storage room that had inadvertently been left unlocked on a school playground in the 1200 block of M Avenue.  The officer took the boy home and contacted his mother after recovering the megaphone and a glowstick.  The boy identified the other two teens who had walked away and police contact with them is pending. 

An 18-year-old Bellingham man was cited for possessing/consuming alcohol on Anacortes community forest lands after a park ranger had seen the man throw four unopened cans of beer onto the side of the trail near Whistle Lake when he saw the ranger.  The man admitted to an officer that he had seen the signs that prohibited alcohol.  A matching empty can of beer was also located near the man. 

A 41-year-old man was arrested for domestic violence assault after his after his wife reported that he had grabbed the back of her head and pushed it into a pillow in an effort to allegedly suffocate her at their motel room in the 2900 block of Commercial Avenue.  The woman reported that she thought her husband was going to kill her.  The man said that “nothing” had happened and that his wife was liar and was acting “crazy.”  The man was booked into jail. 

Sunday, June 14

A 69-year-old suffered a deep bite to his wrist after a dog jumped off the deck of a boat moored at a marina in the 2400 block of T Avenue and ran up and bit him.  The man had been walking his dog on the dock when the greyhound mix dog charged off a neighboring boat.  The offending dog owner said that his dog had never acted aggressively in the past and he did not know why his dog would jump of the boat.  The victim was treated at the emergency room and the Animal Control Officer will be following up on the greyhound’s vaccination record.  The owner of the greyhound mix could face possible criminal charges.  

A 48-year-old Anacortes man was contacted in a parking lot in the 2800 block of Commercial Avenue after a witness reported that he and another man might have been using drugs at a nearby park.  The officer recognized the man from previous drug activity involvements, and the man admitted that he had marijuana and a pipe on him.  The officer located the items on the man and he was cited for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  The second man was not located. 

An out of town resident using a public restroom at a marina in the 1000 block of Q Avenue reported a small handgun hanging from a hook inside one of the stalls in the men’s room.  The officer retrieved the pistol and some ammunition from a US Customs agent who had already entered the restroom and taken the gun for safekeeping.  A 67-year-old Oregon man later contacted the police to report leaving his pistol in the handicapped stall.  The man claimed to have a concealed weapons permit, but will have to wait for an extensive background check before the gun can be released.

A car parked at the Whistle Lake parking lot had a window smashed out by a large rock.  The unknown suspect then entered the car and stole the car stereo and a backpack belonging to a passenger that contained the passenger’s wallet, keys, and miscellaneous clothing.  

Officers responded to the report of a man and woman fighting in the campground at Washington Park.  Officers spoke with a 19-year-old woman who was wet and upset.  The woman said that she had been arguing with her 23-year-old boyfriend and that he had then dumped a beer on her.  She allegedly reacted by grabbing the man by the neck which resulted in him pushing her back over a wood pile and causing her to fall.  The man then allegedly poured beer on her again.  A witness saw the man standing over the downed woman holding her by the ankle.  The man was located walking in the area and he admitted to dumping the beer on his girlfriend.  He likened his actions to “pouring water on a cat” to get her to stop arguing.  He was booked into jail for domestic violence assault. 

A 49-year-old woman was suspected of assaulting her 72-year-old mother at their home in the 700 block of Q Avenue.  The mother said that her daughter had pulled her by the hair causing a scrape to her head after the two had argued about the daughter allegedly punching her 12-year-old son.  The boy then allegedly grabbed a baseball bat and threatened his mother in order to get her to stop hurting his grandmother.  The daughter had fled prior to officer arrival and faces charges of domestic violence assault.  

A Seattle man reported that his laptop computer and a briefcase were stolen out of his car while it was parked in the 2500 block of Commercial Avenue.  The victim had been eating at a nearby restaurant and had left his car unlocked.  The laptop was valued at $500. 

Monday, June 15

Officers arrested a 38-year-old man who was hiding inside an upstairs closet at a house in the 800 block of 5th Street at the request of the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office in Texas.  The man had a $100,000 warrant for his arrest out of Texas for the charge of sexual assault of a child.  The man was booked into the Skagit County Jail as a fugitive from justice.       

A woman who had been away from her home in the 800 block of 29th Street for the weekend discovered that someone had tried to pry open her front door with a bread knife that she had found by the door.  It was unknown if entry had been gained into the home, but the victim said that she believed some of her possessions had been rifled through.

A 15-year-old Anacortes boy was taken into custody in the 1400 block of 16th Street on an outstanding warrant for a previous court order violation.  He was booked into juvenile detention.                

The owner of a Dodge pickup parked in the 1200 block of 41st Street discovered three deep scratches to the hood.  The victim believed that the damage had occurred during the previous night as she had heard her dogs barking.  It was unknown what was used to scratch the paint. 

Tuesday, June 16

A 40-year-old woman reported that her 45-year-old live-in boyfriend had assaulted her by grabbing her by the mouth and forcing her head into a pillow so she could not breathe.  She said that they had been arguing and that he had called her a derogatory name.  The man confirmed that they had been arguing, but he claimed that he had gone to bed and had been awakened by the woman attacking him.  He had a fresh scrape on his chest.  Officers also saw other marks and bruising on the woman that appeared to be a few days to a week old.  The man was determined to be the primary aggressor and he was booked into jail for domestic violence assault.  

Four horses that got loose in the area of 28th Street and H Avenue were rounded up by their owner and put back in their pasture.

A mini van parked in the 1700 block of N Avenue had a window broken out by an unknown object.  It appeared that the glass had been hit with a small sharp object.  The suspect is unknown. 

A resident of the 1100 block of 29th Street reported that someone had broken a small glass top table that was outside the back of her apartment.  The damage was estimated at $100. 

Someone entered an unlocked SUV parked curbside in the 2000 block of M Avenue and stole a multi-tool, a first aid kit, a key, and a vehicle tow bar.  The turn signal arm on the steering column was also broken as well as the handle to the lift gate at the back of the vehicle.   

Officers responded to a residence in the 1900 block of 23rd Street after a 23-year-old man had accidentally dialed 911.  It was discovered the man had warrants for his arrest for previous driving offenses and he was placed under arrest.  Due to the county jail being overcrowded, the jail would not take him and the man was released after being given a new court date. 

Someone broke out a window on a garage in the 1400 block of 16th Street and climbed through to gain entry.  Once inside, the thief pried open an antique soda machine and stole numerous cans of beer.  The matter is under continued investigation.

A mailing business received a suspicious phone call from a man with a foreign voice who asked about regulations for sending a package to the President of the United States.  The unknown man said that he wanted to send a package, but he provided no other information.  The business also reported the information to federal authorities.

School officials caught a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy in possession of marijuana in a Middle School bathroom during a dance.  The 15-year-old fled, although officials recognized him as a former student.  The remaining boy and two other 14 year olds were then interviewed regarding their involvement in purchasing the marijuana.  Criminal charges are pending.    

Wednesday, June 17

The husband of an 88-year-old woman reported that she had walked way from their home on 33rd Street an that he was concerned because she had medical issues.  A neighbor advised the officer that he had seen the woman walk into the yard of a nearby house.  The woman was located and was fine. She said that she had just taken a walk to be alone for awhile. 

A 58-year-old LaConner man was arrested on outstanding warrants for previous theft and failure to disperse charges at a marina in the 1000 block of Q Avenue.  The man had been contacted after he had ignored a security officer’s request to leave the property. 

A pink colored girls bicycle valued at $95 was reported stolen from the front yard of a house in the 2100 block of 15th Street.         

Thursday, June 18

Officers contacted an extremely intoxicated 19-year-old man and his mother in the 1700 block of 39th Street.  The man was inside of a car and paramedics were also called to the scene as the man was breathing but unresponsive.  The mother reported that she had gotten a phone call from her son’s 19-year-old friend who was asking for help in getting the son out of the car because he was “too drunk.”  The friend had fled when he learned that the police had been called.  The friend was contacted at his home and he admitted to also drinking.  The son was transported to the hospital for treatment but he was able to mumble to the officer that he had “8 or 12” beers.  Both men were issued citations for underage drinking. 

Someone damaged a sensor light fixture attached to a garage in the 2000 block of I Avenue by knocking it off its’ base.  The damage was estimated at $100.

A hit and run was reported to a BMW that was parked in a lot in the 1200 block of Commercial Avenue.  The victim’s car was struck in the driver’s side by an unknown vehicle. 

An iPod valued at $550 was stolen from inside of a purse that was hanging in an employee restroom at a business in the 900 block of 21st Street. 

An officer heard squealing tires and saw what appeared to be smoke in the area of 29th Street and Commercial Avenue.  The officer then saw a pickup squeal it’s tires and burn rubber near 29th and M Avenue before pulling into a driveway in the 1400 block of 29th Street.  The driver had to be asked several times to roll his window down and he finally told the officer he needed to “talk to his attorney.”  The driver had slurred speech, smelled strongly of intoxicants, and told the officer that he had “too much” to drink.  The driver was identified as a 24 year old Anacortes man whose driver’s license was suspended.  When asked to perform sobriety tests, the driver told the officer, “Just arrest me.  I’m drunk.”  The officer complied but had to help hold the man up to keep him from falling over.  The man was processed for drunk driving and provided breath samples that were almost three times the legal limit.  He was cited for DUI and negligent driving and released to a sober family member.  


Friday, June 19

Officers spoke with a man and his girlfriend at their home in the 1100 block of 24th Street after it was reported they had been yelling at each other.  It was learned that they were arguing over the woman’s behavior at a bachelorette party earlier in the night.  No crime had been committed and they said they would sleep in separate parts of the house for the night.
