Friday, June 5

A cell phone was reported stolen at the Storvik Park playground area after the victim discovered it missing.  A friend of the victim later received a vulgar text message from the phone as the friend was listed in the missing phones address book.  The suspect is unknown at this time. 

Saturday, June 6

An adult couple argued at an apartment in the 800 block of 29th Street over the man wanting to leave a party they had been attending after the woman expressed her desire to stay.  It was determined that no crime had occurred and the man left for the night. 

A 40-year-old woman was arrested for domestic violence assault after she allegedly “backhanded” her 18-year-old daughter on the cheek at their home in the 3600 block of Cedar Glen Way.  The two had reportedly argued after the daughter expressed her displeasure about her mother’s new boyfriend spending the night at the house as the daughter did not know the man.  The mother admitted that she had struck her daughter because she had been “mouthing off” to her.  The mother was booked into the county jail.

An officer observed a car driven by a 49-year-old Seattle man pull a u-turn on D Avenue and then accelerate rapidly to over 75 miles per hour in the posted 30 mph zone.  The officer stopped the car and the driver feigned surprise when asked why he was driving so fast.  The officer then spoke with the man away from his two teenaged sons who were passengers in the car and the driver admitted he had “punched it” and had no idea how fast he had been going.  The man’s driving status was also suspended for unpaid tickets and his driving record showed numerous speeding violations.  He was cited for reckless driving and driving while suspended. 

A 40-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested in the 2400 block of Commercial Avenue for having two Skagit County Superior Court warrants for her arrest.  One of the warrants was for failure to report to a jail work crew commit.  Officers also located a marijuana smoking pipe in the woman’s purse during a search incident to her arrest.  She was booked into jail on the warrants and issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Sunday, June 7

Officers contacted an intoxicated 27-year-old Bellingham woman in an apartment complex parking lot in the 1100 block of 24th Street after receiving the report of two women arguing.  The woman said that she was upset with her boyfriend because he had promised to stay sober and take care of their baby so she could drink for the “first time in 15 months.”  She said that her boyfriend broke his promise by drinking and smoking marijuana and that they had begun to argue.  The woman claimed that her best friend, a 27-year-old woman who lived at the apartment complex, then got involved in the argument and attacked her.  The woman had fresh scratches on her arms that she said were the result of the attack.  The woman did not want to pursue charges against her friend.  The woman and her baby were taken to another friends home for a cooling off period. 

The same Bellingham woman from above and her 23-year-old boyfriend were contacted outside of the police station after they argued about the man not wanting the woman to drive away with their child.  The man was uncooperative with police, but it was learned that no assault or crime had occurred.  The woman then left with the child and the police were able to calm the man. 

Several mailboxes in the area of the 3500 block of W. 4th Street were reported knocked from their posts.  It appeared that a baseball bat was used to cause the damage. 

Neighbors reported a 48-year-old woman had possibly overdosed on prescription medication at her home in the 1100 block of 29th Street.  The woman was found stumbling in the parking lot and bleeding from a head injury.  The woman told paramedics that she had fallen in her bathtub after taking a large amount of pills from a prescription that had been filled that morning.  The woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. 

A 35-year-old Anacortes man reported that 3 men he was familiar with entered his home in the 400 block of 36th Street without being invited and beat him up.  The victim initially said that he did not know why the men would beat him, but then said that they might be upset about some type of a problem over a barbecue and alleged damage done to a vehicle owned by the mother of two of the alleged assailants.  The assailants have not yet been located to offer their version of events and the matter is under investigation. 

Monday, June 8

A Mount Vernon man driving westbound on the State Route 20 spur suffered a sore chest as the result of his airbag deploying after his vehicle struck a deer that had jumped over the guard rail and onto the roadway.  The deer was killed as the result of the collision. 

An 18-foot galvanized boat trailer was stolen sometime in the past 6 months from a boat yard in the 700 block of 30th Street.  The theft was discovered by the yard employees when the out of town boat owner mailed a new license tab to the boat yard, but the employees couldn’t find the boat to attach it. 

A tire and rim for an ATV valued at $38 was stolen from behind a business in the 1000 block of 20th Street.   

A Parks Department employee reported that 2 men who had been swimming at Whistle Lake had a digital camera, shoes, and sunglasses stolen from their unattended back packs.  The victims did not want to speak the police and their identity is unknown. 

An 18-year-old Anacortes man was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana after an officer smelled marijuana in the man’s car after being stopped for not wearing a seatbelt.  A marijuana smoking pipe and a small amount of marijuana was found inside of the man’s car.  The man told the officer that he had “forgotten” it was in the car although he admitted that he had smoked marijuana approximately an hour prior.         

Officers responded to a home in the 2400 block of 41st Street regarding the report that a 21-year-old woman was refusing to leave and trying to force her way into the house.  The woman was the ex-girlfriend of a man living at the house with whom she had a child.  The woman was intoxicated and had fallen down in the yard upon arrival.  She then allegedly ran into the open garage and pushed her former boyfriend into a glass door while threatening the man’s current girlfriend.  The woman struggled with officers when told she was under arrest and she continued to shout threats.  The woman was booked into jail for domestic violence assault and violating a family law protection order that prohibited her from going to the man’s house.        

Tuesday, June 9

A convenience store clerk reported that an intoxicated man was refusing to leave the store and was staggering.  The man then drove from the business in a pickup prior to officer’s arrival.  An officer spotted the pickup on M Avenue near the Middle School weaving in the roadway and almost striking the curb several times. Children were also present in the area.  The vehicle ran a stop sign at 22nd Street and the officer caught up and stopped it.  The driver was identified as a 24-year-old Anacortes man who handed the officer a credit card instead of his license.  The man smelled strongly of intoxicants and had to lean on his pickup to stay on his feet.  The man was asked to do several field sobriety tests, but he would not respond to the officer and just stared.  The man appeared to be extremely intoxicated and was placed under arrest for drunk driving.  The man was taken to the police station where he refused to take the breath test.  He was cited for DUI and booked into jail.   

An Oak Harbor man suffered possible neck trauma when the car he was driving was struck from behind by a commercial truck driven by a Ferndale woman.  The man had been turning from Commercial Avenue onto 6th Street and had slowed to allow another vehicle to turn when his car was struck.  The truck driver was cited for failing to yield the right of way.  

A .380 caliber pistol, checkbooks, prescription medication, and assorted jewelry were reported stolen from a residence in the 1100 block of Longview Avenue.  The burglary was discovered when the homeowner returned home and found her bedroom had been ransacked.  Entry into the house appeared to have been made through an unsecured bedroom window.  The crime is under further investigation. 

Officers counseled a woman and her 12-year-old grandson at their home in the 700 block of Q Avenue after they argued over the boy throwing a television remote control against a wall and breaking it. 

Wednesday, June 10

A student discovered his car his car had been struck and damaged while it was parked on the north side of the High School.  At this time, the suspect vehicle is unknown.

A mountain bike valued at $450 was reported stolen from Storvik Park.  The name of a possible suspect was provided and the case is under further investigation.  

A woman called 911 and reported her husband had struck her in the nose.  She then called back and said that it had been an accident and that she didn’t need the police.  Officers responded anyway to the house in the 1600 block of 9th Street and spoke with the woman and her husband.  The woman refused to provide any information and the husband said that they had just argued.  The husband did agree to leave for the night for a cooling down period.  

Thursday, June 11

An officer observed a man leave a store in the 900 block of 11th Street carrying beer.  The man drove from the parking lot and another vehicle that had been parked next to it followed.  The officer saw the two cars stop in the 1100 block of 11th Street and discovered that the man had given the beer to a 20-year-old Anacortes woman in the other car.  The woman also had a water bottle in her purse that contained alcohol.  The man admitted that he had bought the beer for the woman as a “favor” but he claimed he thought she was 21.  The woman was cited for MIP and the man was cited for furnishing alcohol to underage persons.   

A neighbor witnessed a blue Plymouth van hit a garage door causing an estimated $400 in damage at a home in the 2000 block of I Avenue and then leave the scene.  The witness obtained the license number and officers learned that a 16 year old Bow girl had been in Anacortes with the van.  The girl told officers that she had allowed her 14-year-old boyfriend from Anacortes to drive, and that he had struck the garage door when he had been trying to turn around.  Police contact with the boy is pending along with possible criminal charges. 

The owner of a car that was parked at the base of Mount Erie discovered that someone had used a rock to smash out a window and make entry into the car.  The glove compartment and interior of the car were rifled through, but nothing appeared to be missing.  Damage to the window was estimated at $250. 

The owner of a pickup that was parked in the alley behind his residence in the 900 block of 27th Street reported that he and his girlfriend had heard a loud crash and looked outside and saw a dark colored full sized pickup leaving the area.  The man then went outside and discovered his pickup had been struck and the bumper and driver’s door damaged.  The fleeing pickup was described as having a loud muffler and the driver is unknown at this time.

Officers responded to a duplex in the 1000 block of 28th Street regarding a domestic dispute.  A man reported that his girlfriend came to his duplex with her new boyfriend demanding the return of her apartment key and other items.  The man said that he wasn’t even aware until that time that he was the “old boyfriend.”  The woman was allegedly intoxicated and the man asked her to come back and retrieve her belongings when she was sober.  The officer also made the same request to the woman and had her pour out an opened can of beer she was carrying.
