Friday, May 29
A 48-year-old Anacortes woman was taken to the emergency room for evaluation for problems associated with alcoholism. The woman's husband had called 911 as his wife was extremely lethargic.
A Mount Vernon man reported the theft of a pneumatic finish nailer and a miter saw from a home in the 2000 block of I Ave. The victim was suspicious of another man who had been moving property out of the house the previous weekend.
Three Anacortes adults were cited for consuming alcohol at Whistle Lake in violation of park regulations. They claimed to have not seen the large painted signs at the entry gate to the access trail.
A woman who had taken her laptop computer to a business in the 600 block of Commercial Avenue for service work was advised by an employee that her computer had been stolen from a desktop in the business. The woman also reported that she had received a suspicious phone call from an unknown man asking for her computer password. When the woman started asking the man questions, he hung up. The theft is under investigation.
A clerk at a business in the 2400 block of Commercial Avenue reported that he had been threatened by an unknown man when the man entered the business and told the clerk that he would make him "disappear" if he didn't stop calling the man's girlfriend. The clerk said that he had no idea who the man was and that he vaguely knew the man's girlfriend from a "long time ago."
An Anacortes woman had her purse stolen from a table at a lounge in the 7600 block of State Route 20. The victim had left the purse unattended for a short time. A witness saw another woman pick up the purse, rummage through it, and then leave the bar with it. The victim tried to call the suspect as she was acquainted with her, but the suspect hung up after the first call and then would not answer her phone. Police are attempting to contact the suspect.
Saturday, May 30
Officers contacted a married couple at their home in the 4400 block of Glasgow Way regarding a domestic disturbance after hearing shouting and doors slamming inside of the house. They wife said that she had been yelling at her husband because she was upset with him being unemployed for an extended period. No crime had occurred and the couple agreed to calm down for the night.
A 48-year-old Mount Vernon woman was cited for driving with a suspended driver's license after being stopped by police for investigation of stealing the car she was driving. The Anacortes man who owned the car had reported that the woman had taken his car without permission after she had accompanied the man to his house at his invitation. The woman admitted to taking the car, but only because the man refused to give her a ride home. The two had been socializing at a local casino where the man had won a significant amount of money. They then went to his house allegedly to have a few drinks and the man later discovered he was missing some money from his wallet. Officers found the money on the woman, but the man said he did not want to pursue theft charges if the woman returned the money. The money was returned.
A witness observed a Honda Civic collide with a pickup that had been traveling north on Commercial Avenue and then leave the scene of the accident. The pickup driver was uninjured, but his vehicle was significantly damaged. Officers were given a description of the fleeing vehicle and driver, and tracked the information to a house in the 500 block of Hillcrest Drive. Officers spoke with a 24-year-old man who was obviously intoxicated, but he denied having driven the fleeing vehicle and said he had been playing "beer pong" all night. Officers located the Honda inside the garage and it had fresh damage. The man then changed his story to say that he "might" have been involved in an accident, but that he couldn't remember because he might have "blacked out." He then asked, "Is the guy okay?" Since he matched the description of the fleeing driver, the man was arrested and booked into jail for hit and run and negligent driving.
A 26-year-old Anacortes man was cited for driving with a suspended driver's license after an officer recognized him while he was driving near the State ferry terminal. The same vehicle had also been reported driving erratically at the ferry terminal.
A 24-year-old Renton man was stopped by an officer for speeding on Commercial Avenue. The driver smelled of alcohol and fumbled for his driving documents. The man failed sobriety tests and was arrested for drunk driving. Some of the man's friend's stopped at the scene and told the officer they had tried to stop the man from driving because he had drunk too much. The man was processed for drunk driving and provided two breath samples that were approximately three and a half times the legal limit. He was cited for DUI and released to sober friends.
A man reported his 2009 Toyota had been dented by a motorcyclist at the intersection of 41st Street and H Avenue. The man said that he had been stopped at the stop sign and the motorcycle pulled up next to him and slapped his window. He then heard a loud noise and later discovered the motorcyclist had put a fist sized dent in the fender of his car. The man was only able to provide a general description of the motorcyclist.
Sunday, May 31
An officer stopped a car driven by a 33-year-old Anacortes man in the 1600 block of 12th Street for speeding and weaving in the roadway. The man said he had been weaving because he had dropped his cell phone, but he smelled of intoxicants and had other signs of intoxication. The man said that he had "two" drinks. The man performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested for drunk driving. He was taken to the police station where he declined to provide breath samples. He was cited for DUI and released to sober adults.
Monday, June 1
A woman reported that her social security check had been stolen from her car that was parked in front of her home in the 3300 block of W. 3rd Street. No one had been seen around the car and the woman was advised to call the Social Security Administration and cancel the check.
Officers spoke with a 51-year-old Anacortes man who was allegedly harassing his ex-girlfriend at the restaurant where she worked in the 1300 block of Commercial Avenue. The woman said that she had been in an argument with the man, but didn't want to "make an issue" out of it. The woman's employer reported he was tired of the man's frequent antics, and the man was trespassed from the business.
A seafood business in the 8900 block of Stevenson Road was burglarized. The owner discovered loose change on the floor of the business and the change drawer missing from the counter. It was believed the burglar entered through an unsecured window. The business was missing approximately $15 in change.
Tuesday, June 2
Ten 6-volt marine batteries valued at approximately $1,200 were stolen from a pallet outside of the back door of a yacht charter business located in the 3000 block of R Avenue. Security camera footage showed the suspect vehicle to be a gold full-sized Chevy extended cab pickup occupied by two white males with a medium-sized dog. Both men were seen loading the batteries into the bed of the pickup.
There was no sign of forced entry to a vehicle that was reported prowled in the 2200 block of 10th Street. The vehicle was rummaged through, but nothing appeared to be missing.
A gold and diamond ring valued at $1,000 was reported stolen from a house in the 4600 block of Hickory Drive. The victim and a service employee who worked at the home provided the name of a possible suspect. The victim also had two bracelets stolen from the house but they were returned to the victim's mailbox earlier after the possible suspect had been confronted about the theft.
Officers responded to a home in the 2300 block of E Avenue regarding the report of a man throwing things around in the house. It was learned that the man had become upset after another resident had asked him for his PayPal account number and he had thrown a sandwich on the floor. It was learned that no crime had occurred and the family dog had eaten the sandwich.
The renter of an apartment in the 900 block of 4th Street reported she had discovered some of the wood around her front door doorknob had been broken off in an apparent burglary attempt. No entry was gained into the apartment and the renter had no idea who might have caused the door damage.
A car parked in the 2300 block of Commercial Avenue had its rear window shattered. A small rock sized hole was also discovered in the damaged area, and it was uncertain whether the damage had been intentional or caused by a passing vehicle.
Wednesday, June 3
Officers contacted two 18-year-old Anacortes men in the Grandview cemetery after a witness reported seeing them physically fighting. One of the men had a bloody and scratched face. He told officers that he and his "best friend" had just been talking and that he had hit himself in the face. The other man had bloody knuckles but also tried to claim that his friend had hit himself. The witness confirmed that both men had been hitting each other. Both men were cited for disorderly conduct for fighting in public, and one of the men was also cited for underage drinking as he showed the effects of drinking alcohol.
A 17-year-old Bellingham girl was arrested on an outstanding warrant for previous MIP and possession of drug charges. She was booked into Juvenile Detention. A 19-year-old Anacortes man and a 20-year-old Anacortes woman who were passengers in her car also had warrants for their arrest. They were taken into custody, but given new court dates and released due to the jail being overcrowded.
Thursday, June 4
A Burlington man who had inadvertently left his wallet in his pickup while he had been inside of a convenience store in the 1100 block of 12th Street discovered the wallet had been stolen. The man had left the driver's door window down while in the store. The wallet contained the man's driver's license, credit cards, and approximately $50 in cash. Officers are trying to identify a vehicle and its occupants that had been parked next to the victim's pickup at the time of the theft.
Officers contacted a 19-year-old Anacortes man and two of his friends after a witness reported the subjects had been smoking marijuana while floating on inner tubes at Little Cranberry Lake. The man admitted he had been smoking marijuana in the woods earlier. The man then turned over a marijuana smoking pipe to the officer. The man was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and released.
Security at a local casino reported that an intoxicated woman had ignored their requests not to drive when she left the casino. An officer observed the woman's vehicle on R Avenue weaving over the fogline and center line. The woman traveled approximately a half-mile with her turn signal flashing after the officer activated his emergency lights to stop her. The driver was identified as a 54-year-old Anacortes woman. She twice handed the officer a boat registration when he asked for her vehicle paperwork. The woman admitted to having two drinks while also taking prescription pain medication and she showed numerous signs of intoxication. She was placed under arrest and processed for drunk driving. She provided breath samples that were twice the legal limit and was cited for DUI.
A homeowner in the 3700 block of W. 4th Street returned home to find that someone had tried to pry open a locked door on the house. A screwdriver was also found on the ground near the door. It did not appear that entry had been made into the home and nothing appeared to be missing.
Friday, June 5
Greetings cards, a wicker chair, a porcelain doll, and other assorted items that had been left outside of a residence in the 2200 block of 12th Street for a pending outdoor estate sale were reported stolen. The stolen items totaled approximately $130.
A resident of the 2300 block of 15th Street reported that he was missing approximately $50 in coins from his locked bedroom and that his son was missing an iPod valued at $330. The man said that his son had had company over, and that the items were discovered missing after the friends had left. The investigation is ongoing.
